Meet Todd Washburn - says a local publication

on Thursday, December, 07, 2006 7:02 PM
It's not often one is featured in a widely distributed publication, well not for normal folks anyway. Then again, I'm anything but normal.

Well, I got featured in a local publication. Not as cool as say a national or international publication, but I'll settle for that. I have to wait until Friday for the printed version of the story.

http://www.rochesterinsider.com(click on the PEOPLE link - I got bumped from the main page)

Direct link: http://www.rochesterinsider.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061205/INSIDER1505/612080315/1199/INSIDER15
I'm generally very shy in person (no joke) and don't usually go out of my way for attention (aside from my creative video work), but something made me go for it this time around.

Most of the interview got chopped out (I talked about my video & SFX obsession), but there's still some fun stuff in there.

The photographer took a zillion photos of me... I made a lot of faces for him and he kept clicking away. The one they chose made me lol when I saw it. I look CRAZY there! I guess he really captured my essence then, huh?

Well, enjoy. It's a short article... but the picture itself is worth a good laugh!

Just click on my ugly mug on the main page of the website - you can't miss me!

BTW - That's Lt. Warf in the background. He's holding a phaser. And I re-assembled the Weed Killer C64 set (just for the photo shoot) which you can kind of see a little of on the right side.

Haha! That's great! You're a celeb in your home town now!

Nice article, though I wish they'd included the discussions about how you got into filmmaking, and how you make them. That's the really fun stuff to hear about.

Congratulations! I hope maybe soon we'll hear about showings of Weed Killer at a local theater, like you did last year with Cutting Room Floor.

Todd.. I think the link on the main page went away. Is it archived somewhere on that site?

EDT: Nevermind. Found it here: Todd Washburn. Cool article. Also they say "Raiders of the Lost Arc ", but I'm pretty sure it's "ark". Arc would be like... Raiders of the lost rainbow.

Hah, awesome!

Cool article! But it's a shame they didn't include more about your videos and effects. Damn journalists...

I can just about make out Vader knawing your right index finger off. And is that Armatron from CRF over on the left?

Hmm... looking at that photo, it's probably a good thing that you don't work with children

...oh, and you may want to know that you have very scary eyes.

Did you cut your hair?

Nope!

It does look like I got short hair there, but the tail is just well hidden at that angle. It's down to the middle of my back! I'm not done being a long-haired freak just yet.

Thank you!

And yes, I was very excited to proudly say TRON as my #1 film ever!

Hardly a celeb. Read further and that will be explained.

And Weed Killer did NOT make the cut at the same local theatre that showed Cutting Room Floor. I received the official notification on Dec. 3 (sent it in week of Thanksgiving). I got the e-mail equivalent of a paste-name-here standard form rejection... actually, here:

Dear Todd,

Thank you for submitting your work to the Emerging
Filmmakers Series at the Little Theatre; however, it
has not been selected for screening in the series at
this time. EFS has become quite competitive as word
has spread across the state and we are only able to
include a fraction of submissions. I wish you all the
best with the film and encourage you to send future
work to EFS.

BUT, I'm ok with that. I didn't expect Weed Killer to get shown anyway because this theatre is well known for showing independent and artsy films, often with deep meaningful symbolism, and social statements, and political films, and films shot in black & white and out of focus, etc. That kind of stuff. Cutting Room Floor didn't fair well there, and this one didn't make it at all because that is not the kind of audience the theatre draws in. But I had to try.

Whoops! I was the idiot who misspelled "Arc" - they just copied what I wrote! Oops! They could have proofed my film list better though.

Thanks for the update link too. The previously featured "What I'm Into" person had the main page for about 4 days. I guess my freaky face wasn't doing so well for them, so they stuck a prettier one up there. Oh well.

A guy at work made the EXACT same comment about the picture... and then asked if I was about to eat something or someone right before it was taken. I told him "only my pride!".
