I had a crazy thought, what if Tron-Sector sold Tron plushes, action figures, playing cards, post cards, T-shirts, mugs, etc.?
I'm absolutely positive there are some free ways to make-n-sell stuff.

Well..
1) There's a licensing problem with Disney. We've been luckier than some Disney and Fox sites in that we tend to use copyrighted images and whatnot without any problems. If we started SELLING Disney merchandise, this site might get shut down.
2) Who do the profits go to? Disney? No thanks.

I typically buy every 'ringer' style shirt I see that's Tron related and would definitely buy a Tron-Sector shirt. However even if Disney gave us the ok to make stuff, without paying any licensing fees, there would be very little reason to. The reality is that most users around here love the site, but don't spend any money on Tron stuff.
Personally I would love to see more interest in Tron collecting. It gets old seeing the same 4 or 5 eBay id's winning Tron auctions all the time. Besides, some of the stuff (like MIB vintage games, and TOMY figures) hasn't been this cheap since 1982  .

I agree most users on this site with the exception of a few dont realy buy anything TRON related. Well what about an artitist rendering of them. Maybe there is something that we can do around that by using our oqwn imagination here on that. I mean look we have a group of artists here that can creat nice avitars of Tron(ish) like characters. I have a variable rotary tool and cordless drill to do some stuff. TO make some kind of emblems for computer cases. Even though I can't draw as good as the others likie Sketch and Kiapurity for examples. But I know I can make with either Autocad 2000i/quickcad or Qcad on my linux machines over here. Fiarly good drawings of things that can be made in a machine shop over here. Like withlathes, Vertical & horizontal milling machines. Could we do an offshoot like that that may use the tron likeness of Tron and maybe do it that way. I am sure there might be a way around it without using the exactness and getting into trouble. Maybe Davetron or a lawyer who knows more or less about this part could help us out on this part.

If 20 T-shirts or less were made and sold at cost, I can't imagine that Disney would bother wasting their time. If anything a cease and desist letter might be issued but that's about it. Heck, look at pongnation and all of the other eBay sellers that have sold dozens and dozens of Tron shirts.
If Sketch, or one of the other talented artist around here, wants to go forward with the Tron-Sector T-shirt idea I'll promise to buy two shirts at $20each .

It would be cool to do a t-shirt. Thing is Tron is in Tron-Sector, though it makes me wonder if that could be worked around via some kind of saying like "Join The Sector," kind of phrase.
I've had ideas about different kinds of products, even many kinds of t-shirt designs. Some unoffical shirts I've seen on ebay are not that great, just screencaps from the film plugged onto a shirt. I want to see actual hand-made designs put into the mix, something I probally could do with some spare time myself.

Boingo_Buzzard, technically, we aren't selling tron products, it would be Tron-Sector products.
Ex: a T-shirt that says Tron-Sector, Disney doesn't get the money.
Why? It's Tron-Sector! Tron related, but not Tron.
Hooray for our side.
Well, the only problem we could face, is we couldn't sell an actual Tron product, then Disney would get the money.
My solution: Slightly alter the products, then sell them. Such as, not a RAM plushy, but a Hikaru.EXE plushy.
T-shirts should say: Log on to the Sector at: Tron-Sector.com, or have a picture of something from a fan movie, or a custom avatar.
If we wanted to make a bit plushie, we would need permission from Disney, which would not be easy. If we can't do that, we go on foot and sell thng under radar on the street.
Well, that's about all I can think of. Go on.

It's a nice idea, but you have to be very careful about what you make and how much you sell it for.
Disney seems to tolerate T-Shirts, but I think beyond that you're asking for trouble. Even slightly altered versions of Tron imagery could be considered derivative, and therefore still subject to a cease-and-desist order.
I think a Tron-Sector T-Shirt would be the best place to start.

Well, seeing that I have my own online store that has TV show/movie/literature inspired material, I learned the best way to go about such things is to make obscure references. For example, I have a T-shirt inspired by the character of Boomer from the new "Battlestar Galactica". I use the term "Toaster" instead of Cylon (the characters use that term to describe all forms of Cylons). By using the term, it's free-range, which means that it could mean the person is saying that he/she doesn't like to toast things or that they are not insane and believing themselves to be a kitchen appliance.
Making items with obscure references that fans would get it and Disney wouldn't is always a safe bet.

Ones for the Red, Blue, Green,ywellow, and Purple. Actually 5 logos there. Under the different factions would it not be different logos here for Tron-sector?? We could make some different t-shirts with our names here, Emblems with the same thing or with our avitars. There is a slew of things that we could do for tron-sector. Right now I am too pooped to think straight of other things we could make here. Even though it's an off shoot of tron. And hopefully without getting into big trouble either. Just need a good night sleep and maybe some really good imagination.
