Unless of course you work hard and get jobs you like and enjoy your career. Everyone does sucko jobs in the beginning, but getting what you want makes it better in the long run.

I did this path:

Meat Room Cleanup
Dish Washer
Pizza Delivery
Machine Shop Maintenance
Security Guard (at Warner Brother Studios - way cool!)
Security Guard (for my Apartment Complex - work from home)
Personal Assistant (converted it to Network Administrator on my own initiative)
Data Entry Clerk
Game Tester/Customer Service Representative
QA Supervisor
QA Manager
QA Sr. Manager
Production/QA Manager

My next trick is to drop this line entirely and make the official title:

Photographer

I've had a lot of fun in my jobs. Naked women doing Pizza delivery. Movie stars at Warner Brothers. Hundreds of games under my belt. I've learned so many things, and built a good life. Anyone can do it, and don't let people tell you it has to be drudgery. It is what you make it, nothing more. I have always left and moved on to better things when it gets dull or bad. The one time I stayed too long was the time I got canned by the new regime at BVG. I thought I could do four more years and I was wrong. Should've left at 4 years like I always do.

It's not always roses for me either, but even the worst day at my job is better than the best day at most jobs in my opinion.

Dino's Pizza in Burbank, CA. A woman on Cleon Street in North Hollywood ordered every week and answered the door in the buff. She was a nude model.

I also enjoyed the 'company' of several older women on my routes. It may have been a menial task, but it had it's benefits.

My original post was me comparing summer vacation boredom to workday boredom (driving, traffic, meetings, etc etc).

Sorry, I wasn't necessarily pointing a finger at you. I just hate when people tell new entrants to the workforce that it sucks. It does sometimes, but not all of the time.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Fair enough. One thing I probably would, in all honesty, do is dissuade youths from thinking about getting a job in computing or software. You can probably blow a significant amount of money getting an education, only to then find that all the jobs are overseas.

If you want to move to India, that's all fine and good. Otherwise you may want to think of something else.

That's all the pessimism I'll dish out. abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

Development and QA perhaps, but a lot of Production work still happens here in the US. Product Managers are highly valued.

You are a little pessimist aren't you? I work in QA, so I am a paid pessemist, you think I'd have the negative viewpoint!

Yup. Actually All the QA and QC people I deal with are always very positive. They pretty much have the final say so as to if something passes or not, so there's nothing for them to ever be negative about .

I work doing bug fixes, so THAT has really influenced my attitude, when everything you deal with is broken or causing some problem or another.

Sounds like you need to collect something. Seriously, once you start a collection of some type you'll find that boredom is a thing of the past. Honestly I don't think I've been bored in 10 years or more (aside from traffic jams and work meetings ).

One thing I probably would, in all honesty, do is dissuade youths from thinking about getting a job in computing or software. only to then find that all the jobs are overseas.

That depends... I certainly wouldn't recommend going in to the IT field or anything relating to networking. However with a computer science degree I could probably find a job in just about any state right now. Seriously, the abiltity to write java/C/php/etc. combined with formal schooling is still worthwhile in the US. Since just about every other job area relating to computers has taken a hit recently, attendance is waaaaaaay down at most schools for CS (which is good news for those of us in the field and those considering it).

Although there will never be a great shortage of programmers like there was in the 80's, programmers will always be in demand here in the US. Of the 10 or so close friends that I kept in touch with from my class, all of us had jobs within weeks of starting our search with a typical starting wage of 50ish. Considering the cost of living is so low down here in FL, 50ish isn't that bad of a starting wage ;^).

That may be true for smaller companies that do not have the means to offshore. However those that do find Indians can do everything you mentioned, and for a fraction of the price.

I can personally attest to this. The dept. I work for last hired someone in-house (an American) in 2002. Four years ago. All other openings (including those created when someone left) have gone to India.

I’m not going to debate the worthiness of offshoring, because it has its pros and cons, but I am just saying that someone should be aware of the state of things before choosing a career path.
