It really is too bad we can't discuss a simple idea without it turning into a fight. That kind of sucks. I am sorry if I set you off. I really only wanted to talk about Superman, not get into an analysis of our political backgrounds.

We just have to agree to disagree, without being disagreeable, is all.
It takes more than an argument about a comic book character to make me stop liking and respecting somebody.
I do have a particular style of arguing a point or opinion that can put people off. So I apologize if I ticked you off.
In any case, I figured it's best to nip this in the bud before it goes anywhere it really shouldn't. Maintaining the forum's general civility is more important than arguing over a comic book character anyhow.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Honestly that line sums it up for me and my pov. Just because the world is ever changing, and we'll all be speaking Chinese in 30 years ;^), doesn't make Superman any less American.
Personally I've been to 6 other countries (not that it matters) and lived in Germany briefly, and I'm *thoroughly aware* that other countries value home, family, security, "and all that stuff" . Regardless I still believe that Superman is as American as baseball. Who he would save in a time of crisis is really a moot point, but if it were 200 'foreign' children vs 199 US businessmen, he'd do the American thing and save the children of course .

So I saw it, in IMAX 3D no less, and I thought it was OK, like Batman Returns was OK.
Most definitely not anywhere near being in the same league as the Spider-Man series, nor the X-Man series. Also not as good as the first two Superman movies.
I knew going in that I didn't really care for Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane and unfortunately her performance didn't win me over. What really disappointed me was Kevin Spacey's performance. It just didn't grab me like I hoped it would; but then, I am comparing him to Gene Hackman's incomparable Lex Luthor. Still, he was flat in my opinion.
But Brandon Routh did a very good, possibly great job. He looked the part to a tee and did a good job of trying to continue to play Superman/Clark Kent the way Christopher Reeve did. Not dead-on, but close enough for me.
As for the plot, eh. It was so-so. It could've been a lot more exciting. It really left a lot to be desired.
The world doesn't need a darker Superman, you know?
I think the reason I don't dislike the movie more is simply because I got to see Superman in the theater again.
Anyway, there you have it.where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online

I saw Superman Returns the other day, and I pretty much agree with what everyone else has said. Good, but not great. The original films are better.
Still, compared to what the previous versions were supposed to be like - while this was in development hell - this is decent.
What prevented the film from becoming great was:
- Luthor's plan was a stupid idea
- Kevin Spacey's Lex was okay, but too stiff . . . Gene Hackman is still the definitive version
- Didn't buy Kate Bosworth as Lois at all, she's cute but not right for the role
- The rest of the supporting cast was pretty forgettable, except for James Marsden
- The kid was added for the "aww, how cute" factor . . . bleh
But what was good about the film was the special effects and Brandon Routh. The FX are pretty incredible. And Brandon managed to fill Christopher Reeve's shoes very well.
So overall, I liked it and hope that another sequel gets made. But next time, they need to come up with a slightly better script and more convincing cast in the roles. Brandon stays, though. And Kevin Spacey can stay, if he stops playing Lex so seriously. (My favorite bit was when he shouted "WRONG!" at Lois . . . if only there had been more moments like that. )

I have seen it and whereas I was really wowed by the special effects (especially that opening sequence!!!), I wasn't all that interested in the story itself.
However if you like well done special effects I suggest seeing/renting it.

I saw it Sunday night here in the UK and thought it was fantastic. I was surprised at how respectful it was to the originals. It was almost as though it followed straight on. The title sequence, the music, Routh's excellent performance all meshed with the originals. I even felt that Spacey was trying to emulate Gene Hackman to a degree and did a really good job. And the effects were goosebumpingly astounding. Tempted to go again and there hasn't been a film for ages that has lured me back.

MutoidMan Wrote:I just heard that they took out "...and the American Way" out of "Truth, Justice, and the American Way" (which are the things that Superman stands for) on purpose, supposedly for marketing the movie to the world. That's total BS. EVERYBODY knows that Superman stands for Truth, Justice, and the American Way. It ticks me off that they want to downplay his roots as an American superhero. He's a midwestern farm boy for crying out loud!
Now I'm kinda on the fence about seeing it. I'm not in the habit of supporting this liberal PC crud, but it is Superman.
Dang! |
Okay firstly Superman aint an American super hero simply because he is from another planet which means he isnt from america so why would he only want to support america.
I am a big superman fan and in the original comics yes he only helps out in america because it was originally made in the 50s when superman was fighting comunisim which is why he stood for "The american way"
But reading the later comics all he stands for is "Truth and Justice" and he fights evil all around the world which frankly speaking Superman would do anyway because thast what his father wanted him to do to help Earth out not help America out. Plus living outside of the USA I know first hand how alot of movies which makes so much focus on the USA being the centre of the world are not doing too well because they tend to make that the focus more than the story (either by putting famous american landmarks being destoryed or pointing out at every turn that its in america)
MM and DT have been going on for ages about this argument "Is Superman in Superman Returns American or not?" and the answer clearly is NO. This is a continuation of the 4 movies before hand and if you watch the first movie you will see JOR-EL place his son KAL-EL (superman) in the ship meaning he was born on Krypton which makes him a Kryptonian not human and not american so it is perfectly reasonable to say that he is a Hero of Earth not of America. It is only in the latest generation of comics where superman was born on earth because writers think that it is unreasonable for superman to be hundreds of not tousand years old (think it Jor-el says that in the crystal recordings). They probably think its more realistic for him to age like normal humans but not too unrealisitic for him to fly and shoot lasers from his eyes thats sci-fi for ya.
But following the movie time line AND the classic comics, superman is no way an american like DT said you want a superhero that stands for everything "red white and blue" go read Captain America not Superman.
Anyway the movie is one of the best that I've seen this year, its great to see superman back on the big screen doing what he does best. Its got to be one of the best super hero movies out (much better than spiderman 2). I reccomned everyone see it!

It's really worth catching in the cinema, Davetron. Especially if you liked the Richard Donner originals. The design is great (more of a muted, art deco look this time round) and the FX are astounding in places. Just a real epic feel too.
I'll probably go again and I haven't seen a film twice at the cinema since, well, er, I can't remember.
