I often try to work references or phrases from TRON in to daily conversation. Since most people have never seen TRON or do not remember much about it, it's amusing for me - will they get it or will it just seem like part of the conversation going undetected?
This past week, the company I work for was participating in kind of a pseudo-mini-co-op with students from a local private high school. Nine students taking a computer course were involved. I had to give them a presentation about my department and the production processes that go in to what we do. As soon as all the students were in the conference room and I had their attention, I started out with "greetings, programs".
There were a couple of chuckles, but for the most part it went undetected. I'm not sure if the chuckles were because I said something that didn't make a lot of sense to them, or perhaps a few of them were familiar with TRON. Either way, it amused me and a co-worker who was assisting with the presentation. He knows I'm a big TRON nerd and he got a kick out of me doing that.
Who says work has to be all straight-forward, boring business? Nothing like greeting a future generation with a quote from TRON, right?
Ok - come on. I know I'm not the only one who quotes TRON in public.
Out with it, programs!
What phrases do you commonly throw in to everyday conversation?
How do people respond?
Got a story to share?

I quote tron now and then, but I usually don't notice it. Tron quotes have (like a couple other movies and video games) just become part of my phraseology. My friends are all used to me saying strange phrases now and again, so they never react oddly. As for total strangers- they tend to figure I'm just 'one of those weird kids' in my experiance. EDIT: Blah! The grid bugs are onto me! This is NoExcuses! Sorry, KiaPurity!
Not being very sociable, whenever someone introduces me to someone I don't know, I just say 'Greetings, Program!'
Needless to say, noone ever gets me.
I have occasionally told people I'm going to slow down their power cycles, and whenever I need to give news to someone, I'll often fit it around TRON.
For instance, if I was inviting someone to my house for a LAN Party...
Me: 'I've got a little challenge for you, Ash - a LAN Party at my house. It's a tough case, but I want it treated in the usual manner. Play on Age of Empires, we'll let you hope for a while, then we'll blow your team away!'
And who hasn't called a friend a 'null unit' or a 'bit brain'? Kia: Cool. I'm a infamous mythological perfect User.

I use "gridbugs" as an explative. And I call people null units. There's this boy who heard me say that and then he called someone a null unit too. And someone else I know told her husband to "stop giving her gridbugs" because of me. Spreading the Tron any way I can...
I also quote Firefly a lot...that show was awesome when it was on, and is still awesome...it made me scared of blue latex gloves though...

I kind of figured a lot of TRON fans (at least those who frequent TRON-Sector) would likely to say "greetings, programs".
When we're troubleshooting at work and trying to come up with a good solution to something, I like to wait for someone to finish pitching their idea, and then tell them (with a completely straight face), "There's a 68.71 percent chance you're right." I'll either get a "say what?" or an odd look followed by a polite chuckle.
I'm seeing that people also use grid bug references. I do that too sometimes when things go wrong. I often say "It's those damn grid bugs - they're at it again!"
Here's a little something I often do by complete accident. We'll be talking about files that are no longer needed on the network at work. I've done this many times, again, completely by accident. I'll say, "Make sure you derez those files when you're done with them." This usually gets a laugh from both me and whoever I say it to because although not many people at work have seen TRON, they know I'm a big TRON nerd and just accidentally dropped a TRON reference. This usually happens just after browsing TRON-Sector while on break and it's all fresh in my head.

I was about to say greeting programs to my former boss and colleagues over here when I went to the BBQ party this evening for dinner. But couldn't do it for some reason. I would have loved to have seen their expression for it.

No no no and uh no. And a possibly a maybe depends on how bad it was being said about Tron. Comes over to Davetron and pulls out a wet lasagna noodle and does the Matrix pong thing in trying to hit dave right shoulder.

I use "Greetings Program" "Bit Brain" and "End Of Line" pretty regularly in my daily language.
But...then again...I also use phrases like "Shpadoinkle" (From Cannibal The Musical) and other random phrases from other movies.
Oh, yes...I also use "Truthiness".where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

Have said to friends "I'd say welcome friend, but not here not like this" during exams, or during the start of a boring class, which seems to get a chuckle. https://www.flickr.com/photos/blue_bezel/ |

I have to admit I've used a few Tron phrases in public such as:
"Greetings Program!" to my pals on my computing course.
"Forget it Mr High and mighty Master control" to my boss at work.
"Systems got more bugs than a bait store"
When ever I've messed up I just look at whoever is there and say "I am gonna fix that in the next patch"
Or if some one else has messed up "CONTROL ALT DELETE SCRIPT!"
And if I get caught doing something I shouldnt be doing I kinda say this in that tone where if it was like I had no other choice "BUT MY USER MADE ME DO IT!"
And when ever I wanna really annoy people I talk to them in Bit talk saying nothing but "Yes/No" Its earned me a few well deserved punches lol

Ah... now I'm back to the real me...
I said 'YES' to someone in a bit voice today without meaning to! Is that a bad thing? No wait... of course it isn't! Hooray!
I also told someone that I'd like to see how they'd take to working in a pocket calculator. But I meant to say that, and the person I said it to had seen TRON anyway.
