Sorry about that.

My parents can't really afford those $1000 PCs, because my brothers and I will probably crash it on day 1. We're lucky we got something with a 2 Ghz processor!

No need to apologize; all I'm saying is don't discount PC gaming. It's a whole lot of fun!

Anyway, to your problem. Did your PC come with system restore discs? If it did, do you know anyone who knows how to use them to restore your PC to its fresh-from-the-factory state? They would also have to know how to back up and restore any files you'd want to keep.

Also, I'd think if you had your account information that you could keep using your CoH account even with a reformat and reinstall. I'm sure that question is answered on the CoH website somewhere or in the manual, or in the subscription agreement.

Allow me to be more specific: a high-end gaming PC.

How's that?

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

I did see one when I was working at Pratt and Whitney. A heck of a lot larger than what your average pc looks like and it was a SGI RISC based computer running with IRIX.

All well and good, but can you play TRON 2.0 on it?

You can Build a decient gaming ring for much less than $1000 no problem. The catch is you have to accept some trade ofs for a lower price tag. Here is an example of a lower cost system that will still give decent performace in most games. Keep in mind this is NO overclocking.

Motherboard:
MSI 865PE NEO2-V Socket 478 Intel 865PE ATX $69

CPU:
Intel Pentium 4 3.0E Prescott 800MHz FSB Socket 478 Processor Model RK80546PG0801M - OEM $160

RAM:
1 GB Kingston (2x512) Dual channel kit pc3200 $77.50

HD:
Maxtor 250bg IDE ATA133 hard drive $75

Video:
Apollo Geforce 6800 128-RD Video Card $140

Case with 450w PS $25

Various fans (cpu and case) $40

Windows XP HOME OEM SP1 $75

TOTAL COST $584 +shipping and tax

As you can see this is well under the $1000 barier and your getting a 3ghz processor and Dual channel ram. I realize this system will not play DOOM3 at 1280x1024 4xFSAA but it will run it stable and at a decient framerate (1280x1024 with 2x AA will get you about 75 fps)

Now granted I run a computer business for a living but these prices are quoted from newegg.com directly. My point with all this is even with computer prices from the big box suppliers droping like stones it still possible to save a buck if you are willing to sacrafice the "bleeding edge" for proven hardware from the last generation.

I might also add that this pc comes in cheaper that a Playstation 3 ( $600 announced at E3 ) Sure you have build it and install the software and all the drivers but that is a couple of hours if your fvamiliar with it and mabey a day if you have to be walked through it by the instructions and nonly have a basic knowledge of hardware.

If in the future you need a computer build Id be glad to do it

UPDATE, EVERYONE!!!

My brother's City of Heroes account finally expired and we uninstalled the game. After making sure everything seemed to be okay, I ran the game for the first time in about two months. AND IT WORKED!

However there were several glitches mostly in the Lightcycle games, most noticeably, the Lightcycle engine sound effects were popping and cracking. Anyway, I reinstalled it and that seemed to fix the sound problem.

Now, while the Lightcycle games (my favorite part of the entire game) work like a charm, I'm now experiencing a crash when I reach the "Command Module" level in the FCON sever - the level with the sticks that come from the ceiling and block the corridors. The funny thing is, I never experience this crash before!

Oh, well; at lease the game works again!

Actually, that happens to a lot of people. Including me. There's something weird about that particular level. I think there might be a mistake in the map that's causing it to crash when you reach a certain spot.

The game also seems to like to crash often when you get attacked by DataWraiths. Or, at least it did in my case.
