Hey everyone.
I have a very weird problem. Ever since my brother installed "City of Heroes" on our XP, TRON 2.0 is not working, period. The launcher opens up fine, but when I click "Play", the program boots up and crashes. It used to say, "Random digits, the action could not be 'write'", and now it says that Lithtech engine has crashed and need to be closed. Has anyone else experienced this error and does anyone know how to fix it?
Thanks in advance!

Sinister can you be more specific to what the random digits are. Meaning can you write down the exact error message and come back with it here. Could be that the tron 2.0 needs to be reinstalled in general there with the patches.

That's very strange. I'd recommend you reinstall Tron 2.0 and see what happens.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

Hard to say what the problem could be, but my first guess is that installing City of Heroes changed the audio codecs somehow.
When you're in the game launcher, click the Options button and put an X in the Disable Sound box. Then try running the game. Does it still crash?
If so, run the "WMFADist.exe" program in the Tron 2.0 directory, and let it do its thing. Reboot the computer, and then try running Tron 2.0 again.
Just a word of warning: this might fix Tron 2.0, but clobber City of Heroes in the process . . . then again, maybe it will fix it and nothing happens to City of Heroes. No way of telling for sure!

Could be Reddrain. But what I am worried about is what the exact error message was. For me even though I am a beginner programmer and a long time techno-weenie of technicians. The error message sometimes tells a lot of what is happening and why the error message has occured. And can lead to what can be done in order to fix it you know. And can lead to the proper way of getting it fixed. Right now it is just hard to find out what the proper way of fixing it.

uninstall/reinstall your drivers, video drivers last. Sometimes defragging will fix it, and chkdsk with autofix enabled. Then, look in your bios, check the settings for your video. Check to see if you have a specific profile in your video settings, that may interfere with Tron from your display/vcard settings. Look at your page file size, check to see if it's set correctly. you can find out if your RAM is bad by getting a RAM check utility at Microsoft.com. (create a floppy and boot to floppy, it's easy) ... pull your heatsink, have thermal grease on hand, and look to see if there are any very very small chips in the edge of the processor. That's a stretch, but you're better off safe than sorry. And last, reinstall tron, or try that first, hehe. on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online |

If it was freezing up I would understand doing that. But Its not freezing up its just crashes. Lets wait to see what the error message is first and try the basics before we go that drastic afterwards. We have not heard from him back yet from it.

Okay, I reinstalled TRON 2.0 and it still crashes. I disabled the sudio and it still crashed.
My graphics card is the horrific Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family. I had to install the v1x42c Patch in order for TRON 2.0 to get pass that TnL error.
Compucore, it says this:
"Client MFC Application has encountered the problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
To see what data this error report contains, click here."
The error report says the following:
Error Signature:
AppName: lithtech.exe
AppVer: 1.0.0.1
ModName: d3d9.dll
ModVer: 5.3.2600.2180

Hmm. That error suggests that a part of DirectX is causing the game to crash. Weird.
So this only started after installing City of Heroes?
Maybe you could try re-installing DirectX. It's a longshot, but who knows.

That's really weird. Yes, this only started after City of Heroes was installed. I was playing Lightcycles at a party at my house, showing everyone the game and the next day Nick, my brother, installed City of Heroes. CoH did crash on us at the "Atlus Park" level. We had to reboot the computer. Maybe that screwed up DirectX...
...you know, it gotta be DirectX because "Halo" is not working now. It also said, "d3d9.dll" in the error report. I sent that error report to Microsoft and it said that it didn't know what made Halo malfunction.

Good news, Users! TRON 2.0 is working again!!!
Apparently, it was a conflict with GameSpy. My brother (the same one who installed "City of Heroes") noticed GameSpy was installed in the TRON 2.0 directory and he uninstalled it. While I wish I was watching what he exactly did, whatever he did worked. I noticed the framerates were a tad slower but that seems to have went away now.
Thank you for all your input. You guys are the best!

ANd here we were thinking it was a hardware problem and all that. You know and not to blame either. Sometimes it is a good thing at time to keep track of things like this and to give the most information about the problem that is happening here. And at least in this care it was not a hardware problem. But another application that was buggering up your problem in playing the game tron. At least we know now what was happening here. A good note to take in for the next time around.

Gosh, I just had to jinx it.
Earlier today, City of Heroes crashed. CTRL+ALT+DELETE didn't work even after TWO times, and My Mom had to turn off the computer manually.
As you notice in this message, there is no "d3d9.dll" in the error report.
Man, I am so mad right now.

Most PC's are not made to play games very well, but all consoles are made for the express purpose of playing games. That's the difference.
Don't knock PC gaming until you've experienced it on a high-end PC. Trust me, it's great.

And it depends on what a high end pc is too. There are many different interpretations on that too.

Sorry about that.
My parents can't really afford those $1000 PCs, because my brothers and I will probably crash it on day 1. We're lucky we got something with a 2 Ghz processor!
redrain85 Wrote:
Man, that sucks. Well, I have to say . . . while consoles are usually trouble free, it's not always the case either. There have been many games recently released that crash, even on consoles. Patches for console games are starting to become the norm now, too.
Getting back to the problem. If you view the technical information the next time the game crashes, it might give us a clue as to what's going on. Hopefully we can figure it out from that.
|
Yeah, my DS crashed on me while I was playing Metroid Prime: Hunters, the other day.
Normally, I would give you the technical information, but there are two problems with that.
(1) I can't right-click and select copy or paste on the text.
(2) The whole report must be over 100 pages long. Seriously.
But, I can tell you that while skimming through all that string data I noticed that the whole game seemed to crash. I read that the audio drivers were failing and the graphics weren't loading and missing DLLs and some really screwy stuff.
The last option is to uninstall City of Heroes. But my Mom and Dad payed for 4-month City of Heroes account, so I guess I have to wait for 4 months until I can uninstall it.
