What does everyone think of Revolution's new name?

on Thursday, April, 27, 2006 4:46 PM
I'm not impressed with the new name.

"Wii".

I'm just a bit stunned by the fact that they changed the names and I'm just not sure how they'll be able to market Wii. It'd have to require some heavy marketing to appeal to everyone because I'm pretty sure people will still think of Revolution and will be baffled when they find out that the name no longer exists. order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

How is it pronounced? 'Wi-ee'? 'Wee'? 'Why'? Or some kind of pronunciation which is in no way related to the name?

I doubt it's pronounced 'wee'. 'The Nintendo Wee' wouldn't be the sort of thing parents would give to their children. Unless they're strange parents. Or strange children. Or both. Probably not.

pronouced as 'we'

I sortof like it. Nintendo wants to demonstrate that they are trying to achieve something very different with this console then microsoft or sony. I think its still early enough the name change will be no problem. I'm really tempted to pick one up...ive been very close to buying a cube for over a year now. Maybe for xmas it will sit next next to my ps3 (gatta love gifts to yourself).

I think it is revolutionary!

...

Sorry - it's me. I HAD to throw in a pun on that!

Oh... wait a minute...

It's not the "Revolution" anymore?

It's the Wuh-ih-ih?

Or is it pronounced why?

Why would they do that?

Whatever.

Very strange.

I don't like it.

Of course, I didn't like "Game Cube" after hearing about "Dolphin". But that wasn't as bas as "Wii".

And now I'm used to "Game Cube". Mine is an awesome dust collector! Not a single new game since 2004... and I'll only be getting one more game - The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess. That will make for a total of SIX whole games I had for that dust collecting piece hardware I've got.

Not sure if I'll end up with a Revolu... er, I mean a Wii. I bet if I do, it will collect a lot of dust as well. Nintendo seems to have forgotten what makes games good - at least in quantity of the games they put out in recent years and the VERY FEW that have actually appealed to me. I really should have gotten a PS2 instead.

But I'm getting off subject.

"Wii" is a crappy-damn name. I actually laughed when I read your initial post again, KiaPurity. I read it so fast the first time, I totally missed the "Wii" part thinking it was a type-o!

Great job, Nintendo!

Perhaps you'd like to make ALL CELL-SHADED games for this thing too? Yeah - take everything you used to do so well, and SCREW IT UP! That's what you're in the business of now, right?

No, no - wait - let's see Mario and Fox McCloud join forces against Kirby's evil twin! . I bet you WILL make crappy sh-t like that, Nintendo! New and innovative MY ASS! I'll believe that when I see it!

...

Sorry. I'm STILL pissed off about what they decided to do with The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. I was so looking forward to that game... BEFORE it was turned in to kiddie-toony-CRAP. That and the poor line up of games for the Game Cube in general.

Blah.

Here's the funniest response to the new name I've seen all day!

Nintendo of Japan: "We have officially named the new system! It will reflect fun and excitement."

Nintendo of America: "Okay, let's hear it!"

NOJ: "We shall call it - Wii."

NOA: "Ummm...guys?"

NOJ: "Isn't it a great name? Doesn't it promote fun and innovation?"

NOA: "Well, that name means "urinate" in the United States."

NOJ: *COMPLETE SILENCE*

This name siz-ucks. Seriously.

It's hard enough trying to convince hardcore gamers that they want to swing their arms around like a moron in front of their TV - now you name it after a bodily fluid?

Note to Nintendo - Remove head from ass. Call me when you do.

In the end - it's just a name and what really matters is how the system and its software work.

But this doesn't help because we all know the adage about first impressions.

When your first impression sounds like you have to urinate, it's not a good one.

Nintendo has a history of renaming their systems for the U.S. like they did with Famicom (NES), but if it's universial then I don't know what to think.

This is the first I've heard of it (been a busy week for me) but reguardless of the name, I really think it can be a solid system. I just hope Nintendo isn't getting big headed and trying the name-idea as an experiment that American's will buy anything. Because we don't... that is why most products from Japan isn't ever released in the states.... which also sucks because there are some really awesome games from Japan that I really would love to play (and gagets to have too).

Windows Longhorn is now "Windows Vista" which I think they should have kept the "Longhorn", but hey... It will still be called on the streets as either Longhorn or "Windows V". So whatever.... I just hope it doesn't turn out to be another crappy OS like Windows ME (a computer tech's nightmare).

We'll see what happens... Nintendo isn't a stupid company, but they aren't the smartest either... I think they know what they're doing... but it's too soon to tell...

Ya, looks like Nintendo decided to opt out of marketing research in America. This was a real bad mood on Nintendo's part. Real bad.

I don't really mind though, I'm a Sony PS3-er all the way (wherever Square goes, I follow :P)abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

If you ask me, I think Wii (Bad pun, slap me sombody) should back away. Game Cube was a good name, it was almost called somthing like dolphin. I would have liked it better is it was still called The Nintendo Revelution (TM).order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

I remember me and my brother finding it hilarious when we read in a Dreamcast magazine about the name change to Game Cube. We thought it was a stupid name. But now, it just seems as good a name as any other. I'm sure people thought 'Dreamcast' and 'PlayStation' both sounded cheesey at first, and then got used to them. But Wii? I find it hard to adjust to that as a console name. They might aswell have called it the Nintendo Ass Juice.

Hmm... actually... I wonder whether that would sell more?

I've heard lots of people making jokes about this. One in particular.

We are the Knights of Wii! Er, Ni!

The name might work in Japan, but in the rest of the world it's just not going to fly.

If you follow Square, then you best be getting a 360 as well!

They've officially signed on with Microsoft to develop games especially for the 360 and they're sending Final Fantasy there as well!

Back on topic, I think we all agree the name sucks.

It's up to Nintendo to deliver the goods with the system and games.

But I have to say that they've shot themselves in the foot before heading out of the starting gate!where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online

Wow... that's an interesting business decision. I like the FF games as much as the next guy but I'm not buying a 360 just to play them. I guess they think people will.

OOooooooo... Good news... Maybe they will start releasing FF games for the PC again. If it wasn't for FFVII for the PC, I would have never givin the game a chance....

It's an interesting name. It catches the public's attention and actually has a meaning:

I'll get one for sure, but... I still wish they kept the good ol' Revolution code-name.

I also like to think that "Wii" is an acronym for something like "Wireless International Interface".where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill onlineabortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

Ah yes... on SA we sorta had an incident involving that. Let's just say people found the new name high amusing.
