Hey guys,
Michael Crichton's first movie, "WestWorld" starring Yul Brynner is on TCM right now, so if want to catch the ending, you can put it on now.
I'm a fan of the movie and recently rented the DVD from the local library. If anyone who has seen it, you probably seen the famous digitized robot POV shots, right? Well, guess who created them? Triple-I! Apparently, those shots are the first "2-D" CGI shots ever created for a full-length movie!
And this got me wondering: does anyone know what other effects did Triple-I, MAGI, Robert Abel, and Digital Effects created for other movies besides TRON?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Robert Osbourne, the guy that hosts the feature presentation on TCM, talked about the Triple-I shots and after that there was a behind-the-scenes featurette on "2010: The Year We Made Contact", that briefly interviewed, of all people, Syd Mead! I forgot that Syd Mead designed the Russian spaceship in that movie.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

Yeah, that scene in Westworld was one of the earliest uses of CGI in a major film.
I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Triple-I also did the CGI in the movie Demon Seed back around 1976-77.
I don't think MAGI lasted much longer, after TRON. And I think the same went for Triple-I.
Have no idea about Digital Effects.
But as for Robert Abel and Associates, they did a ton of work after TRON. All kinds of stuff, including work on Steven Spielberg's "Amazing Stories" TV show. But sadly, they went out of business too about a decade ago, I think.

I did a little research, and found I was a bit off regarding the CGI in Demon Seed. It turns out that some employees who left MAGI did the work in this film. Not Triple-I. But I was kind of close.
Also, the CGI in The Last Starfighter and 2010 was done by ex Triple-I employees.
Apparently MAGI closed its doors around 1985, and Triple-I even sooner at around 1983. A shame these studios didn't survive longer.

Had Tron done as well as they had anticipated, I bet MAGI and Triple-I wouldn't have shut down so soon after Tron...

Oh yeah! Forgot about that show. Thanks for reminding me. I wonder if they have a DVD set out.
I've never seen WestWorld. What is the scene like that involves CGI? Would be interesting to see.

I'm getting out of here right now, and you guys are invited. -----^ |

When the robots go out of control, and the Gunslinger starts hunting the hero (argh, forget the character's name right now), there are numerous shots shown from the Gunslinger's point of view.
You see these pixelated, almost mosaic-like representations of what he sees, while he's tracking our hapless hero. Those shots were computer generated. And apparently they took a long time to do too, back then. There was also some simple CGI on the screens in the control rooms. Later, in the sequel Futureworld, they used more detailed CGI in the control rooms (including models of faces and hands).
Comparing what's in Westworld to TRON about 10 years later, the jump is incredible. And now comparing both of them, to what we have today . . . it's just astonishing.
Though, if you think about it, what was seen in TRON still looks pretty damn cool today. The jump between TRON and now - compared to Westworld and now - isn't quite as dramatic.

The 3D CGI Head and hands in "Futureworld", were created by several college students including a man by the name of Ed Catmull, who would later become the President of PIXAR!
And I agree that TRON still looks cool today, even compared to today's CGI.
