What people do to broken computers...

on Wednesday, February, 22, 2006 2:28 PM
I was looking some stuff up on Google Video and I found this:

Windows TNT
Even though I'm a teen myself, I think those guys are just plain stupid pulling off a stunt like that.

Note that this video is rated "PG" for the (barely audible) dialogue.

i sense a disturbance in the net. it was like thousands of programs crying out in pain.

star wars/tron combination aside, yes, that was a stupid thing to do, considering they were probably showered with jagged bits of metal.

LOL.

The funny thing about this movie is that it reminds me of the climax for my Tron sequel/fan fiction script.

How concerned should we be that there are people out there thinking about doing things like this?

Hey, I'm bored, let's build a bomb.

That was . . . stupid. And I'm putting it mildly. Instead of what I really think.

Those kids are lucky they didn't get arrested. Setting off explosives in your neighborhood isn't cool.

Yeah, I wasn't impressed either. More disturbed that people get off on doing this AND others will get off on watching it - no doubt giggling hysterically as they watch it. Disturbing.

Unfortunately, these guys weren't in their neighborhood when they shot this. I quote from their ad-infected website:

Hi, my name is Brandon Adams, and I am the maker of this site. This site contains a video of my friends and I blowing up an old computer. We used a powerfull explosive that our demolition expert (lets just call him Bob) made up for us (the bomb is the title picture). We filmed this in a old barn in the middle of no where. The explosion totally destroyed the computer and blew a giant hole in the monitor. We placed the bomb on top of the video card for maximum destruction. The force of the explosion blew the top part of the case about 30 feet across the barn, you can see this in one of the screenshots, the top part of the case is in the top right corner of one of the screenshots. In one of the other screenshots you can see some sort of electrical charge coming out of the explosion. This was so friggin cool to be there and see, sorry you missed out.

Morons...

This destroying stuff is a growing fad, especially in the videogame scene. I watched this one video of this guy - in costume - smashing a brand new PSP, right out of the box, with a sledgehammer. There's another video where these guys burn a Gamecube with lighter fluid (it was broken though). But I tell you, these guys are becoming close to being called, "mentally ill".

Idiots. Why is blowing up a computer fun? I don't get that and hope I never do. Poor programs...

These people need to see Tron. Just so you know. But I'm not letting them near enough to my TV to see it. Or my computer. Or any other electronic appliance in my house. And not my Tron DVD either.

Well, that was... Odd.

It strikes me that really, it's not as much about the fact that they wanted to blow up a computer... just that they wanted to blow something up. But it could also be because of the trend of totally destroying stuff the heck of it. (i.e. Smash my iPod)

The older I get, sadly, the more I see that there is a large majority of people in this world who never advanced beyond basic learning and minimal intelligence.

I don't consider myself the brightest human being in the world by any stretch of the imagination, but I can say with complete self-assurance that I am different from the masses, as I believe many of us TRON fans are. We appear to aspire to higher levels.

It scares me how many people are like these kids.

Mix these guys witha religious philosophy, and you get a Suicide Bomber or someone blowing up abortion clinics to "save innocent lives".

I've been reading Karl Marx lately, I think it's having an affect on me. (...and no, I am not going commie!) He had some interesting ideas, too bad people have to get involved.

Okay. I discovered that the Ipod site you just brought up is linked to planetbordom which is linked up to (of all places) porn sites. Now what does that say about them? (Actually, I know what it does say about them on a highly scientific level, but it may not be appropriate to post here.)

On one hand, if they were Mythbusters and were testing exploding computer myths or something, that's okay. Something interesting is actually comming out of it. But this is just sensless destruction and nothing comes out of it.

Besides, something about that explosion seems fishy like the exploding AMD chip. Something seems really off and "Special effects"-y. -_-;;

If it was me, I would build a small chassies and turn an old computer into a DOS machine. I'd install old games and apps and then convert it into a PC arcade.

With a computer a little newer I'd make a mame cab...

With a really new computer, I'd play all my current games...

I'd network everything together.... With the dos machine, I'd install win95 just for the sake of networking. That way I can transfer all the abandonware I download onto the machine without haveing to burn several CDs...

Come to think of it, I might run an ad in my local newspaper asking people not to throw away their old systems, but to give me a call and I'll come by and take it off their hands. You'd be surprised how many people throw away stuff in my area.

I guess I'll go do that...

SAVE THE PROGRAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

or should we say...

BACK UP THE PROGRAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways, I'm looking back at what the origional title of the this thread was called and I'd have to say what I do with old and defunked computers (As in broken) : Make jewlery and various stationary doi-dads. It used to be a very popular trend a few years ago locally when we had a lot of computer stores trying to get rid of their old parts. So jewlery and things were made of it. So imagine microchip earings, bindars made of old fried mother boards. It was actually pretty cool. ^^

Explosion in a barn... their lucky that didn't cause a fire. Doubt they would have cared if it did. I gree Dave, that is scarey that some kids would build an explosive like that just for kicks.

They're lucky they didn't hurt themselves in the process too. Of course, if they had and got it on video, I think I might have actually found a little entertainment value in it. I mean what's better than watching an a--hole getting hurt while being... well, an a--hole?

WTF is up with all these "smash expensive items" sites and videos lately? Man - am I missing something? I didn't even find senseless destruction "cool" as a kid. Am I that off that I don't have a clue as to why it is entertaining to break things? Man - I really don't get it. I must be lame... but at least I'm not dipsh-t.
