Wait a minute... the way I just said that, I expected to hear something about saving a bunch of money on car insurance.
Seriously, I'm glad you finally took the plunge in to the digital world!
Just remember to update the game (install the latest patch) before embarking on the single player adventure. In order for your game save status to work, you have to update before you start playing, or wait until you’ve completed the single player game to update. Best thing to do is update before playing - then you're all set. Let me tell you - you're in for one hell of a ride - the game rocks!
I can't wait to meet up with you on the light cycle game grid!

Will multiplayer work ok with dialup? For the next couple months I will be stuck in dialup hell

Yes, it works - but you end up with a really high ping.
You'll probably ping around 300 or 400 through a dial-up connection. Generally, you need to ping in at under 100 to be competitive on the light cycle game grid (imo). That's really not very good for a game like light cycles, but you'll still be able to give it a try. You might fare better in a disc game. A high ping in the disc arena or death match game doesn't hurt as much as in light cycles where every 100th of a second counts a lot.

THis is true Todd. With a 56K modem you'll get that rate if not a little bit more. Dpending on the clearity of the line between you and the server that ou connected to. Then from there out to the servers for the game tron.
And Nikster. Do like what Todd had mentioned Path it to the latest patch first time around so that way you can play both the single and multiplayer. Since it will be easier afterwards to switch between the two no problem And you won't be a cursing like an old trooper that you should have done it in the first place.

I think I remember you saying months ago you hadn't played Tron 2.0 before and I was in utter shock, due to how many posts you had here. I'm pretty sure it was you.

LOL -- Not to be a 'Debbie Downer' here, or anything... but umm... I played MP on Tron 2.0 when I was on dial-up and it was horrible for me. I only got about 4KB/sec download speed at the time (which is a fairly normal 56K dial-up speed), making online gameplay a disaster. Other programs would blink across my screen as I tried to nail them with my deadly identity disk. They dodged every disk I tossed because I was probably seeing where they had just been rather than where they actually were at that moment. They were basically going faster than my internet connection was able to keep up with. And lightcycle games? Heh. No way, no how...
I've seen 56K dial-up speeds be at 6KB/sec or slightly higher, but even if you got that, I don't know if it would work well for you.
I'm just sayin!! I saw all the "it'll work awesomely" propaganda above, and thought I should let you know it 'might' not be so good. So if it works like a charm? You'll be pleasantly surprised!!

I'm gonna try out the multi-player, but I am thinking I will be spending most of my time in the single-player game. At least till I move in a few months.

Call me an old folgey here. You'll be surprie what I could get out of an old 1200-2400 baud modem. Even with a 56K modem there are lil tweaks that you can get out of any true 56k internal or external modems and not those win modems that you can get for cheap. And that was in the good old dos days. I had one sys op nearly fainting everytime I was downloaded at 250CPS on my packard bell 2400 baud modem. And even then no one else could do it on the others.

Awesome That's what I recommend. Enjoy the single-player experience first so you can see the graphics unveil themselves to you in the order the developers intended. If your computer can handle it, be sure to turn all the graphics up to high and get the glow effects going!
I played a week or two when I got it on what I thought was high settings w/ glow effects, only to find out I'd been missing out on the glow effects! I had a 300 baud modem for my Commodore 64!! And used a program called Q-Link to download music and stuff! Wow, that's kinda the internet... but in the 80s!! Holy cow!

There are a few details to go through after installing.
First, in windows XP's built in firewall, you need to click on "add a program", or enable acess to Tron 2.0, and to the dedicated server if you choose. This helps your ping a bit, (so does a good spyware/cookie removal program)
second, I dont recommend AOL as an ISP. (take your ping, in the multiplayer console, and add 160).
third, in the options menu in Tron 2.0, you can lower the performance settings to speed up your ability to play in MP.
There are some "tweaks" that you may find helpful, which may help your O/S, and pings. Thats Right Traahn. Remember when you you wanted to message someone you had to log onto a BBS Bulltetin Board system. I think I have one program that can do that over here through the internet. I am pondering if I should take my old Aptiva and set it up. It alreeady has windows, and all that with a 20 gig hard drive on it. And 192 megs of ram. Could set that up for everyone to take a look via the web and telnet sessions. Just need to create the message bards themselves and voila its done.
