I was browsing through the department store catalogs looking at all the techno gadgets till I came to the toy section. I couldn’t find any big franchises like the ones I had growing up. The only one I found was the Star Wars toys, but that doesn’t count because Star Wars was always huge. What ever happened to G.I. Joe, M.U.S.L.E.S., Strawberry Shortcake, Penny Racers, and the A-Team guns? Lets take a look and see what they do have.
Ninja Turtles: Wow… They are still around.
Batman: but Batman is a pansy.
Bratz: Head Gamez Dolls: This sounds like device to teach little girls to start playing head games at a young age.
Hot Wheels: Yep… They still make em.
Where the heck is Barbie?
Ahhh… cool… I want a Fly Wheels Radio Controlled Vehicle.
Cabbage Patch Kids: They still make Cabbage Patch Kids? I thought Coleco went out of business in the late 80’s. Many memories of stuffing fireworks in the heads of these dolls… good times.
Bob The Builder: Ok… I see they make movies but the toys look like they suck. Where are all the cool choking hazards at? Where is Tonka?
I learned that the Care Bares made a come back a while ago but I still think that the Shirt Tails were much better. They quit making Shirt Tails back in the 80’s because more kids bought Care Bares.
What… No Voltron?
Yu-Gi-Oh!: Someone has some explaining to do.
Transformers: These new Transformers suck. What ever happened to the cars that looked like real cars? These change into…. They…. Umm… What the hell?
What… No Atari 2600 games? No Rubix Cube? No Weeble Wabbles? This is so wrong.
… Ok… I’m depressed.
I still have the Shirt Tails stuck in my head. I miss those stuffed animals. My favorites were the raccoon, fox, and tiger. They also had cool t-shirts. I’m so depressed. Why couldn’t I be a kid in the 80’s again? It was the best decade ever… EVER!!! Ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, times infinity. It was back in the day when MTV actually showed music videos.
Cindy Laupper… I miss you. I miss you to The Bangles… I also miss you Dokken. and I miss you RATT most of all.

Well, ther is the Atari Flashback 2, which (I think) is selling well. I have one myself and I'm LOVING every blocky-game moment I spend on it! It's classic Atari at it's blocky-best!

Ahh - good old Cindy Laupper. She was so unusual. I really didn't get her back in the 80's, but I still dug her anyway. At the time, she was just so strange. Looking back, she's SO 80's!
The Bangles - they were hot! Oh, I liked their music too and all. Yeah - we all walked like an Egyptian in 1986!
Dokken - they were cool. For some reason their song "Dream Warriors" stands out in my head - and the video the made for it. I was a huge Freddy fan in the 80's.
RATT! Oh great! Now I'll have that damn song "Round and Round" stuck in my head for a while! Thanks a lot!

Cindy Lauper has a brand new album where she has reimagined some of her old hits. You should check her newer stuff out. There's way more to her than She's So Unusual and True Colors albums. The only reason she's missed is because nobody buys her albums anymore. She's worth the effort.
Bangles, still touring.. Still excellent.
Dokken, still play LA once in a while. I believe they too have a new record out there.
Ratt is no more sadly. Guitar player Robin died of AIDS as I recall. I could be wrong on that, but he is dead.
We have a club here in Agoura Hills called The Canyon Club and a LOT of older acts play there. I go as often as I can to support these groups I loved and still love.
I've seen The Tubes there about 5 times now. Excellent show! Check out their last album Genius of America if you want to see a great band still in top form.
If you liked somebody's music, go out there and find out what they are doing and support them by buying their new music and seeing their shows if you can.
Another good one...Pat Benatar! He last album Go had some excellent tunes on it.
Just my .02. I'd rather see these bands who work independantly these days and try harder than any corporate polished 'superstar'.

Alas, Oingo Boingo is no more. However Rush still tours
I saw the B-52's a couple of years ago. That was a good show. Tears For fears also got back together and toured. That was also a good show.

RUSH!!! You know, I just love their older music and although their latest album is good, I just can't get into it like I use too.
I have Ratt's best of album. I think it's titled somthing like 1982-1992. 'Way Cool Jr.' and 'Round and Round' were two of my many fav. they did.
Wow... Dokken is still around? I'm looking them up. To show how 80's I am tonight, I'm listening to 'Back for the Attack' on tape, even though I own the CD.
I'll also have to check out Cindy Lapure. A girl I dated oh-so-long-ago claimed 'Time After Time' as our song. I also really liked 'Good Enough'... the Goonies soundtrack.
My all time two fav. love rock songs are:
'Never Say Goodbye' by Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet (the only album I liked of them)
'Hysteria' by Def Leppord - Hysteria (that whole album is good)
I'm also a huge fan of old Van Halen (with David Lee Roth). Every one of their songs rocked. I sided with DLR when he split off from the band. I still think they guy is too stuck on his self but I love his music. Last album I own of David Lee Roth was one that was just called 'DLR Band'. A really good CD and every song is truly Dimond Dave. Too bad the guy is a jerk. When he did the 'Best of Van Halen' everybody thought they'd get back together, but that didn't happen. Then Van Halen III came out and I hated it.
Another group I liked was Scorpion... "Here I am... Rock you like a hurricane..." (I think I posted about them before).
What ever happen to that style of rock??? I can't stand any of the new stuff these days... They all sound like Purl Jam... and no body seems to play the lead guitar anymore...
Solo Guitarist I like that cut their own solo album:
Steve Vai
Joe Satreonie (I know I misspelled his name)
Lanny Cordola
Those guys are worth checking out. I know about them because I play guitar and back-in-the-day I tried to learn their licks-n-tricks.
Great music...

The last live band I saw was Huey Lewis and the News. They were at Ceasars Atlantic City last year, and let me tell you, he was in top form.
Huey did both "Power Of Love" and "Back In Time", most of his other big hits and some of his cool but lesser-known songs. He put on a great show.
"We are, after all, not God." - Cmdr. J. J. Adams "C is for cookie. That's good enough for me." - Cookie Monster "If money is the root of all evil, I'd like to be a bad, bad man." - Huey Lewis & the News

Huey was here a little bit ago, but I did not go because the only seats left were next to an area where people congregate, smoke and drink, proceed to get wasted and act obnoxiously.
It's pretty funny... tickets usually sell out in every other area of the venue except for that area because people are such rat turds. You'd think the venue would get a clue and prohibit people from doing that in that area... but who knows... maybe they make more money off the booze these people guzzle than the ticket sales they lose by others not being able to STAND being around them.
Missed ZZ Top for the same reason.

Huey rocks. I always loved their style.
ZZ Top is another great band. I say them perform at the 'Show-Me-Center' in Cape, MO... Most of the artist that I use to go see use to perform there and the SIU Arena in Carbondale, Illinois... Since I live in southern illinois, my area sort of borders KY, MO, IN, and AK so we all get the chance to see big names perform before they make it to St. Louis and Chicago...

Huey Lewis and the News. Damn good band!
Saw them free at the Arizona State Fair back in 1983 and they were great. Haven't seen them live since, but I own all of their albums with the exception of the recent Plan B album. I will correct that omission soon.
The stuff on Small World alone makes their catalog worth owning.
Here's one I will toss out. The Greg Kihn Band. Anyone here cool enough to know them for something other than The Breakup Song and Jeopardy?abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

I'm not a DC fan either.
Call me a Marvel Zombie if you like, but that won't change my opinion that Batman is a punk.
If he had any balls, he'd kill the Joker and all of the other wack jobs instead of forever going through the futility of putting them into that sieve that is Arkham Asylum.
How many times does the Joker have to escape and kill people before Batman cuts the crap and just kills him? Every time Batman does not kill one of his enemies, he knowingly condems the innocent citizens of Gotham, whom he maintains he is protecting, to death.
If you ask me, he is a twisted bastard more interested in the criminals' rights than he is in the right of people to live without having to worry about some nut cases escaping from Arkham like clockwork and killing people.
Another thing: Who in the world is stupid enough to live in Gotham City anyway? That place is a deathtrap!

LOL! How true!
Here's a mystery of GTA that boggles the mind: Why is it almost no one in any of the GTA games locks their car doors? A car jacker can't jack your car if he can't open the door and pull you out!
Here's another GTA mystery: Who would be crazy enough to drive around a GTA locale in a convertable with the top down?
I think it all boils down to the significance of the role the suspension of disbelief plays in the appreciation of escapist fantasy. Without the suspension of disbelief, we probably wouldn't derive any pleasure out of most of the comic books, sci-fi, action movies, and video games that most of us here at TRON-Sector indulge in.
That having been said, I don't know about anybody else, but there there is a point at which I can no longer suspend my disbelief and I just won't enjoy something because it's just too fantastic or just plain dumb. Terminator 3 is the perfect example. "We are, after all, not God." - Cmdr. J. J. Adams "C is for cookie. Eh, from what Silver's told me.
Batman used to actually kill criminals in the early comics. I don't know what happened to make him not do that anymore.

I've been playing SanAndreas and Vice City again, and what 's funny is that that police will chase you for running people over... so they run people over to chase you.
I find so much comedy in the GTA games that I'm always laughing everytime I play it...

I agree that Wonder Woman is hot... but other than that, I just couldn't get into it...
But there was a really cool book that DC did back in the early 80's. It was based around two ghosts... One was a Civil War soldier (blue coat cavalier) and the other was a WWII soldier with a tank... I don't have much memory of it other than that and that I thought it was a cool concept. I don't even know the name of it, but it wasn't a series of comics that I know of, but a small 50 to 100 page book in comic format that I use to own. Don't know what happend to it.
I stuck mainly with Marvel, like MM did. I was so into Spiderman, 80's style X-MAN, I even had some Miss Marvel comics that I think was from the 70's, etc...
...but thats was me growing up. |
