Somebody's been reading Tron-Sector

on Tuesday, January, 24, 2006 7:17 PM

I recently visited the Tron 2.0 entry on the Wikipedia site, and noticed that things we've been talking about on Tron-Sector are mentioned in new updates to the page. They are directly lifted from our discussions, no question about it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tron_2.0

The updates I noticed:

New entry about the upcoming SLG comic in April.

Mention that Ma3a could be Laura. This was NOT on the page before, and has just been added recently.

Check out the Legacy section at the bottom of the page. Does any of that stuff sound familiar? The points made are exactly what we've been talking about.

Would the mystery person who's been keeping that Wikipedia entry up to date, care to step forward and reveal themselves?

Wow.

A lot of stuff I have said is quoted there.

That whole end section revolves around a lot of my comments.

I wonder who's been doing the updates? C'mon, I agree with Redrain, fess up.

Wow - that's a very interesting read. Great find, redrain85!

"Either fairly or unfairly", this synopsis of TRON 2.0 was filled with interesting bit of information, if some of them were a slight bit off.

The game was released on August 26, not the 25th, if memory serves.

Other than that and a few other minor things, I think the write-up was well done.

And I think it's safe to say that TRON-Sector was probably the biggest (if not the only) real source of "These individuals" mentioned in the write up. I bet your comments in particular played a role in it too, redrain85. BVG could give a crap, but isn't it nice to be heard by someone?

Yeah, there are a few small inaccuracies. For example, you could even argue the game was released on August 23, 2003 because it was sold early at a computer show in Germany. But overall it's a nice write-up.

And of course BVG hasn't "defended themselves". Because they know full and well they wouldn't have a leg to stand on. They're guilty on all counts.

Yeah - that, and sadly they just don't give a crap - and it shows!

Case in point: do you know how long it's been since a certain BVG employee (I'll let you guess who) has signed in to Tron-Sector? August of last year.

That doesn't mean he still might not be lurking, but . . . I think this says a lot.

Ok, I just corrected the date to show August 26 instead of 25.

I'm not a regular browser of wikipedia.com. Do changes you make there actually stay? If so, how is the site protected from digital vandals? Just curious.

Someone checks in on any changes made to the page. If that person feels you may be wrong, he/she will challenge you on the update. You'll have to provide evidence as to why you feel you're correct.

I think I know who you mean. He has one of Sketch's custom avatars, right? I'll not mention his name in case I'm wrong.

It doesn't really matter though. BVG made this game, though not perfect, it is an excellent game. I really don't get how they just kind of put it out there, didn't do much to get word of it out, didn't make much effort to stand behind it, and didn't seem to do anything to increase sales after it was initially not going well. That's just not good business sense. I mean - you should see what the CEO of the company I work for does when our big cash-cow clients start to slide away. He gets in there and does what he needs to do to get them back on board, or to bring in new big clients. If our company did it's marketing like BVG, our little company would have folded a long time ago.

How do they challenge?

I mean, I left no contact information. I can't imagine they'd be able to contact me just from my IP being logged there.

I'm guessing they review changes and keep what they agree with and dump what they're not happy with?

Wikipedia.com is an interesting site, but I'm not all that familiar with how it works.

There's a "discussion" tab where the person in charge of moderating the page will post a note to you saying something if he disagrees. Of course, he won't know exactly who you are since you didn't have to provide any contact information.

But you'll see a note saying something like "Whoever changed the date, you're wrong!" and then you'll need to respond to it. This will require you to create an account. If you don't follow up (provided the moderator takes issue with your update), the change will be undone.

As a result of not meeting sales expectations, both a possible expansion pack & even a sequel (which was, apparently, tentatively titled "Tron 3.0") was cancelled while still in the preliminary planning stages. It is rumored that one of these additional games would have been set in the early 1980's, when the storyline of the original motion picture Tron took place.
This still makes me sad

I also think the official launch was 8/26; that sounds right. But, whatever the date was, I got my copy 2 or 3 days earlier than that.

FYI - It never pays to sign up on those 'reserve your game now," because some other software store usually gets the game in earlier. I hate that. You think you're doing yourself a favor by plopping $5 or $10 down, but you end up getting the game 2 or 3 days after other people have been getting it. Never again, I say!! Ok, am I having false memories, or was TRON-Sector mentioned AND linked to on that page before?

Today, I could not find it there, so I added it to the links at the bottom of the page.

Anyone remember how it looked yesterday? Am I imagining it? order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pillabortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Well, I decided to change a couple of things on the page myself. The release date for the Mac version was wrong, and there was no mention of the GBA version. So I added those things.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: I found the IP of the person who added the Legacy entry at the bottom of the page, and traced it. (Dun-dun-dun! )

Whoever it is, uses Charter Communications for an ISP and lives near (if not in) St. Louis, Missouri.

The pressure is mounting . . . c'mon, fess up!
