I don't remember that interview at all. It seems accurate though.
Weird.

I had a chance to read the article today.
It sounds very interesting actually. It's kind of cliché - the premise of techno-wizard abandoning all technology because of whatever bad experience. They did that in War Games and a bunch of other sci-fi films.
But the whole what does being digitized do to the human psyche thing is a really cool play on it. It gives the old cliché a new spin and makes it interesting and with purpose.
My interest has increased, knowing this new spin on it. But that's about all I want to know. I really don't care to know much about a show or film... or comic, before I read it. I like to see the story unfold in front of me, not knowing what's around the next corner.
Cool premise though. Very nice touch, lurkinghorror.

I'm wondering how jet becomes a soap opera, while maintaining his alghorythymic balance. What in a computer could make a user worry, if he's the one with dominion over the computer world.. I may be alone in this one, but, a computer, if anything would enhance the brain, and make it more unrealistically powerful. I just dont draw parallels into mental incompetence. there. Personally, I can't wait to get my hands on the comic. And this comes from a woman that isn't really into comics. But hay, it's Tron. The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair. |

Heh. I meant that while comics in general don't interest me, I'm really looking forward to the Tron comic, because it involves well, the Tron movie. And I've, probably along with the rest of the people who go here, have been waiting a very, very, very long time for anything concerning the Tron universe to come to market, so to speak.
Anyway, I think I once posted that I didn't like the new digitized/real world Jet look. But after reading the synopsis in the article posted earlier, I think the more grim Jet fits. He's no longer the relatively niave person he was.

Hmm. Wonder how Flynn coped with being back into the real world? From the movie, it looked like he coped fairly well, but looks can be deceiving.

How or why in the world are comics so cheap? $3.50?? I'll feel like I'm stealing it when I go to the store to buy a copy. That's good for us consumers, but I guess that's why it's a tough industry to be in. It just seems weird...

The print output is one reason they are affordable. Comics are mass printed in huge amounts so it doesn't cost as much. It's cheaper to mass print than in small amounts in the business world cause of the print technology used. Course price also depends on the type of paper used, number of ink colors printed, as well as number of pages that each issue will have.
Those huge industrial print machines are amazing.

$3.50 is cheap? At the risk of shooting myself in the foot with sales, I think the cost of the average comic these days is outrageous. I mean, I understand why they cost what they do, and it's a fair price. But that's mainly due to a decrease in industry sales combined with the rising cost for paper products. I started collecting comics when they cost 25 cents (and we walked uphill to the comic book store, both ways, in the snow), and I think that was the last times comics prices were reasonable. The average price now dissuades the casual reader, particularly children, from impulse purchasing. This creates a cycle where the influx of new readers is curtailed and sales dip, which means an overall increase of prices to pay for the cost of doing business. Repeat.
Y'know, it's probably better that I don't get started. I have a small tendency to rant.
But Sketch more or less has the right of it. The problem being that volume is down. And that makes me sad. Particularly when I find my comics available for download. I mean, I live in a dining room...
But like I said, I rant.

I understand the printing aspect of things. I helped make a brochure for a company and by the time it came down to printing, it made little difference (cost of project-wise) whether we printed 2000 or 5000, or whatever. Same w/ business cards.
Most of the development cost of a comicbook, I'd imagine, is in the artwork, story, etc.
I realize comics used to be $.05 or $.25 or whatever... but they were often on newsprint and, to me, don't really compare to some of the high-color, seemingly nice quality paper (in comparison) comics of today.
The small production costs of printing is not why they're so cheap. How much does it cost to actually write songs to a CD for distribution once you get that far along in a music project? Cheap. Yet CDs can cost $17-$20 for the consumer. How much does it cost Microsoft to actually transfer data to a CD? Yet they charge hundreds or thousands for their software.
These types of things are what I compare comicbooks to. If done well, with great artwork and a good story, I see no reason why comicbooks should be so cheap. The artists and designers of the comic should get paid if their product is good. Heck, I think a TV Guide costs a few dollars these days, when I remember it being like $.25 or $.50.
So if it would cost me $5 or $10 to get a nice quality comicbook product, or even $15 or $20, depending on the quality and size of the print, etc., then I see no problem with this.

April 2006 is getting closer. Does anyone know if it'll be ready to come out in April, and is there a specific launch date, by any chance?
