Some thoughts about Battlestar Galactica

on Saturday, July, 23, 2005 1:30 PM
I was flipping through the channels yesterday afternoon (Fri) and settled on Blade Runner. It was sweird seeing Adama so young and stuff.

There was a commercial for the UK DVD version of BSG. They specified that it is the UK version. Why is that? Does the UK version have boobies?order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

William Sanderson. He was the guy who played Larry who had two brothers, both named Darryl, in the Bob Newheart Show.

In Blade Runner, Edward James Olmos played a fellow blade runner. He's Commander Adama in the new BSG series.

i totally dig blade runner! its really hard to watch though
Parently ford hated ridley scott and thus he did his voice over really badly on purpse, so it didn't make it into the director's cut, wierd like the film.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

Back to the original question . . .

There's nothing special about the UK version of the DVDs, except that they always seem to get them first. And they're Region 2 of course, so you might not be able to play them in your DVD player. (Unless it can be set Region Free.)

Sorry... I know this is a BSG topic (or was...) but here's a few facts about the cast of Blade Runner. Great casting, I think.

Roy Batty - Rutger Hauer - Awesome choice. He was most recently in Batman Begins as the CEO.

Rachael - Sean Young - Was REALLY hot (popular) in the 80's, and then she kind of went off the map. I haven't seen her in much lately, although she was also in another fav. movie of mine, Dune, as Chani.

Bryant - M. Emmet Walsh - The police cheif. He's been in a ton of things, usually as an older "grumpy" man (police chiefs, coaches, lawyers, etc..). I remember him as the gum chewing co-worker in Raising Arizona

Pris - Daryl Hannah - Remember her from Splash? Clan of the Cave Bear? Roxanne? Last thing I saw her in was Northfork. I havent seen the Kill Bill films, and probably never will.

Leon - Brion James - Always seemed to play a thug of some kind. He's dead now.

Also a notable mention is James Hong who's been in about a bazillion things...

great cast!

I guess I need to see Dune again, because I don't remember Rachel being in it! Then again, the last time I saw the movie was in 4th or 5th grade, when I began reading the books.

Pris was in Kill Bill?! PRIS WAS IN KILL BILL AND I DIDN'T NOTICE?! What is this world comming too? Who was she? I know she wasn't the Bride, because that was...um.... Uma Thurman.

Another movie I guess I have to see again... abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

Well, Pris was the eyepatch-wearing enemy of The Bride - the one she fought in the trailer with the tobacco juice and eyeball ripping.

I can say that I've exhaustively studied Blade Runner and if you're a fan of the film you NEED to read Paul Sammons' "Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner." You, too, can be a walking encyclopedia of all things Blade Runner!

You, too, can know that the film was originally called "Dangerous Days" and was originally propositioned by Martin Scorsese and Jay Cocks - Cocks went on to write the also very cool "Strange Days." You'll also know that the voiceover was the THIRD recorded track for the film and that Ford intentionally half-assed it - although it still works for the film in its own way.

There was only one tower model built for Tyrell Corporation. They shot it twice over, hence the two Tyrell Corp. towers versus just one. You'll learn about the deleted scene where Dekkard goes to see Holden (the guy Leon blows away in the opening scene) while Holden is in a futuristic iron lung.

There are SOOOO many more things I could tell you about, but this is a thread for Battlestar Galactica!

I remember loving her and then loving her less and less as she started to waste away, then she did a ceesy TV movie called "The Cowboy and the Movie Star" where she was nice and curvey and really sexxxy! That's when I started loving her again.

Anyway, Sean Young as Rachel? Rwarr! >

Unfortunately, the only version of Blade Runner on DVD is the terribly-produced Director's Cut version.

I love the cut of the film, but seriously there are VHS copies out there with as good of sound and picture quality.

I keep hearing litte buzzes about WB making a special edition of the film - hell, Criterion had it on laserdisc in the early 90s - but that once again it's in limbo.

Well, since this has turned into a Blade Runner topic.

I never cared for the Director's Cut. I thought the additional footage was cool, but other than that I preferred the so-called "European Edition".

It had almost as much new footage as the Director's Cut, and didn't remove anything. Plus, call me crazy: but I liked the narration by Deckard.

You're crazy!

No, but seriously... I actually like the Director's cut and getting rid of the voice over by Deckard. It's not needed and takes the film in the direction of a Film Noir detective movie, when it's not that and it's message is not that. Without the narrative LA of the (now not so distant) future is more like a dream world and you start to blur the lines behind what's real and what's not.

I like the unicorn imagery because it's important to understanding and posing the question if Deckard himself is a replicant and also ties in with the paper unicorn that Gaff makes at the end.

Well, I agree about the addition of the Unicorn imagery. That was intriguing. The idea that Deckard himself could be a Replicant.

The irony of that being true, would really throw viewers for a loop. But we're left to ponder that truth on our own. Which is probably for the best.
