Ah well, next time. |
You REALLY need to hit the light cycle game grid more often! You used to do really well out there. If you just hit it a few times a week, I bet your skills come back fast!
I'd love to meet up with you again and play another game of clean up the game grid and then go head to head. Do you remember when we played that a few times back in the day? I think it was with you... oh man - there goes my memory circuits! There were some really annoying, trash-talking kids out there once or twice and we used to pick them off before going head to head ourselves. Was a lot of fun!

You know, ShivaGoddess, this guy (or guys) doesn't usually stay on for long. The quickest way to get rid of him is to ignore EVERYTHING he says. When people feed the troll, he just stays around longer. When you ignore his stupid and vulgar comments, he quickly gets bored and leaves.
You really shouldn't let him bother you. There may be one jerk on the game grid - but remember - you're surrounded by the enjoyable game gridsters as well AND you all out number the trash-talker.
I've actually tried calming this guy down before - you know, try to win him over. But I didn't get far. Again, the best thing to do is ignore him and he usually leaves pretty quick.
Of course, if everyone on the game grid simply goes after the trash-talker first EVERY time - as in no derezzing anyone else until the trash-talker's down, that could speed his trip OFF the game grid a bit too. I think he's just a kid and as such, doesn't have much of a tolerance for that kind of thing. He won't last through much of that. And I bet you enjoy it too.
I just hate to see a trash-talker keep ANYONE from hitting the game grid. Do not give them the power to ruin your fun. Just keep your cool, ignore him (everyone has to ignore him together) and play as you normally would. He won't last long and you'll be back to just havin' fun with the gang before you know it!

Have you been practicing again and working on those once nicely polished skills?
Yeah - we should hook up some time out there - I enjoyed competing with you AND cleaning up the game grid along with you!
I'd love to plan a time, but it's so hard to plan in advance. I'm sure you have the same trouble - you know - between full time work and wife and other responsibilities. I try to get on from time to time but usually can only stay for a few quick games.
Well - what times are best for you?
Around 7ish (Eastern Time) on work nights are usually the best time for me, but I only have a small window of opportunity, and not every night. On the weekends, I hop on here and there, if I can find other players on the game grid. Heck - I could be on the game grid right now, but I'm spending my few brief free moments enjoying some TRON-Sector for now.

Meet me on the game grid!
I only got time for a few - so catch me if you can!
I'll be in my usual blue light cycle. Cutting up the floor, leaving room for no one! And maybe slamming in to a few walls while I'm there.

Ok, it was a full server when I got on, so if any of you tried, you probably couldn't meet me on the game grid tonight. Sorry.
I was only there for about 15 mintues anyway. Not much time tonight.
I had the pleasure of meeting up with NeOJoKeR, KKK, Mr.Anderson, Program (a very skilled light cyclist playing kow key, and cleaning up quite efficiently), Emule and CyberShaman.
Emule asked if I was TrailCutter. Well, Emule, if you find your way to TRON-Sector and you're reading this, it was me!
See that link in my signature? Does the name make more sense now?
Was fun out there - I just wish I had more time.
Oh, and I only hit 3 walls and a block. The rest of the time, I was getting taken down hard... by the others AND myself! I did several three-turns-of-deresolution tonight. Damn jumpy fingers!
Oh - and no trash-talkers. In fact, most of the time I hit the game grid, there are no trash-talkers to be found. I only meet up with an annoying trash-talker from time to time - very infrequently.

Just played a whole bunch of games with Mr. Anderson.
He's both wicked-sneaky and a very good escape artist. I wasn't quite so rusty tonight, so I didn't do too badly. Nice competing with you Mr. Anderson!

Wow! It's amazing to see that this thread is still going strong after all this time. I haven't checked it in many months.
I was surprised to see you mention Ki||ian Todd because I wasn't aware that I was playing with you. I guess I haven't figured out your LC aliases.
And Layer, I'm actually quite touched you remembered where that name derived from. Ah, sweet sweet Killian. I hope he's doing well. Of course that goes for Sobe too..I lost them both in the break-up. Ahh well.
Anyways, as for my playing lightcycles, that seems to have come to quite a halt. I haven't played in at least a month, and before that it's been once or twice a month at most. I'm not sure why really. Maybe I've lost my edge. I honestly think my quitting the reefer has alot to do with it. When I used to smoke daily, I was playing all the time. I used to get such a boost in performance from the stuff believe it or not.
It's funny though cuz I almost always check the servers just to see who's playing. I've noticed that Dayentech's servers have been down the last few days. That's unfortunate as his servers seem to be the connecting lifeline of the LC community...well I see besided this thread that is.
I will say that if I see it's back up again, I'm gonna start playing more often. I miss the good ol' days.
And just to give the heads up...I rarely play as dIrK anymore(for no real reason) so look for names like Ki||ian, ChapSchtick, Mancuso. And if you think it might be me, just ask. I won't lie or try to hide. Even though alot of people always think I'm trying to do that. Hehe.
Peace.

dIrK!
Welcome back!
I hope you do start hitting the game grid more often - I used to just LOVE trying to take you down. Some people hate playing against the best of the best because they'll go down a lot in the process. To me though, it is the most exciting - when I'm up against someone who's got laser-fine precession and killer reflexes. Win or loose, I always say there's just NOTHING like a good take down! You'll get your edge back if you hit the game grid more often, I'm sure. Hell, even when you don't have your edge, you still kick butt out there, I bet!
Yep - you've played me a few times out there, since I stopped using my own name. I didn't realize you were Ki||ian at first, but kind of figured it out because of the way you were playing. There are some slick cyclists out there, but you've always had the tightest, most high-speed precession moves hands down. Layer confirmed that it was probably you in this thread later on, as you've read.
I stopped using a name that people would identify as me out there some time ago... well over a year and some change. There were times I just wanted to hit the game grid low-key - without all the follow-up play by play I used to write here. For some reason, I felt obligated to do that after a while. And I didn't want to be known sometimes - I just wanted to play and enjoy the excitement.
I kept thinking my tendency to slam in to walls would give me away, but no one has ever asked me... well, if i was me out there. Not ever. I've been asked if I was you before - which I took as a huge compliment. I've played some really good games out there, but I never quite reached your level. Funny thing is I tend to play really well, or really sloppy. And I still tend to find my way to those damn walls. I've been asked if I was LorDCrash too, but of course, it was just me.
I found it funny that people who were not used to one of my other names always had to know who I was when I played really good... and no one bothered to ask who I was when I wasn't playing so well.
Interestingly enough, one of the names I started using actually started getting known to some of the other regulars out there. I don't know why one name stuck with people and the others did not, perhaps just because they encountered me under the one more often.
I drop hints out there sometimes. If you watch carefully, I drop a very obvious hint at times - I mean VERY obvious hint. The first few times I did it, I was sure I was going to get called out. I don't think anyone has picked up on it.
I kind of dig that I can play low-key out there now - I don't have to be Todd on the game grid, I can just be on the game grid, if that makes any sense.
Of course, I do play under a more recognizable name from time to time as well - the name of the video link in my sig. The regulars know me as that name when they see me, and I enjoy playing under that name.
If someone seems to know who I am out there and asks, I'll tell them, though I'd prefer not to be outted blatantly while on the grid. But if someone's just throwing names out left and right, I'll just let them get pissed off guessing while I play. But like I said - no one has identified me under the other names.
In other news... the Dayentech servers are indeed down and it is unknown when or IF they'll be back. redrain85 has started a TRON 2.0 news blog (see the link in his sig - I forget the URL off hand) and reported on this. VERY SAD!
I was hitting the game grid at least a few times a week. I never had much time to stay long, but I LOVED being able to kick back and enjoy the game with whoever I'd meet up with out there. It's a great way for me to unwind and forget about the real world for a little while.
And now, the best, and usually ONLY (playable) servers are gone.
Sometimes Crash puts up his "CrashLand" server and I'll join him on there

I hate to bear bad news but...Layer spoke to Dayen in person about this....
There will be no more dayentech hosted servers for TRON 2.0 or any other games for the forseeable future. Us peeps in the US will now have to adjust for the 120-180 pings and play on the euro servers....or create our own.

Thanks for the update, ShivaGoddess. Yep, that is very bad news.
Well, I've been trying to get used to playing with a ping of 100, and even higher. I was playing yesterday... if you can call it "playing" - it was more like looking at the past - I'd turn only to find out that the other cycle that was a well behind me, was actually in front of me. Anyway, I was playing with a ping close to 200 for a while. Man - it sucked.
While high-ping light cycles is better than no light cycles... it's really difficult to play when you can't really tell what's going on around you and, like I said, pretty much see the past and not the present on the game grid.
Oh well. It was great while Dayentech gave us some great, free servers to enjoy - and we should all be thankful to him for that. But it seems there are some dark times ahead for us light cycle enthusiasts.
High ping or not, I will continue to play, so long as I can find players out there to compete with.
With any luck, another low-ping server provider will step forward and hook us up. If I could afford to, I would do it myself. But I don't have a computer that would do well as a server, nor do I have a T1 line.
In the meantime - don't let it die.
Jump in the game grid.
If you can - host a game for a while.
Let's not let multiplayer light cycles die.
I, for one, am not even close to being done enjoying it!

I have to extend my thanks to Crash for keeping his Crash Land server up and running ever since Dayentech's servers went down.
I get a slightly better ping there than on the GameGrid.org and Encom servers, but not by much.
I'm just glad to see people holding down the light cycle game grid.
I wish I could meet up with more people out there though. It's difficult playing with a high ping, but better than not playing at all.
Come on, people - don't be afraid of the servers available out there. Don't stop playing light cycles.
What's it going to take to get you back out there?
Come on - you KNOW you wanna see me bash my head in to the nearest damn wall!
There are still good times to be had - just rez in!

Did you get to meet up with anyone out there?
Were you hosting your own game, or did you join one of the available servers?
