Yep, the pings haven't been too bad for most people. My connection seems to be doing all right. It's tough to judge what the best settings should be, so I've been on the conservative side to ensure everyone has a good connection.

I'll try tweaking it some more, but I don't want to push it too far and make the experience crappy for everyone.

Now I seemed to have the best ping of everyone out there... well, ecept for the zero-pinger himself - tronfaq.

Sorry . . . can't help it, I'm playing over my LAN. But I'm so rusty anyway, that even with zero ping I still lose a lot.

No problem. I tried running servers before . . . but everybody went to DayenTech. I guess I can't blame them, either.

But with DayenTech gone, now it makes sense for me to run some servers again. I'll try to keep them up 24/7 as much as possible, for the forseeable future.

Hopefully he will come back at some point, though!

Yeah - it would be nice if he could get his servers running full time again. Until then - I'm glad you're going to try and keep your servers running as much as possible. That should keep the game grid from drying up.

Yeah - I've noticed that the game grid has not exactly been bursting with life lately. I think a part of that may be Dayentech's servers going down. Perhaps some people took that as a sign of the game grid (as we know it) being gone. I am hoping more people realize that redrain85's ( tronfaq ) servers are up and running and can handle pretty good pings (depending on how far you are from them). I still hit the game grid a few times a week, and I usually find people out there. If not, I'll stick around for about 10 minutes or so and more often than not, someone will join. I do end up hitting the game grid without anyone showing sometimes though.

I miss the old heyday of the light cycle game grid. Sadly, I think as the heyday was just starting to ebb away is when I first started playing (May 2004). Still, I loved meeting up with the regulars and always had a blast!

There aren't many regulars anymore. Even Layer hasn't been hitting the game grid much lately. But his lack of game grid time is probably due to a major computer problem he's been dealing with. I did come across him recently though - he still finds ways to hit the game grid!

Crash is often out there and he's always great fun to compete with. He usually gets the best of me, but win or loose - there's nothing like a good take-down! Every once in a while, Brina is out there too. She's a lot of fun to compete with as well, not to mention a trip to chat with.

I guess I'm kind of a regular out there. I don't get to hit the game grid nearly as often as I'd like, but light cycle action NEVER gets old to me. I LOVE the game and greatly enjoy meeting up with whoever I can find out there for some high-speed, 90-degree, death-by-deresolution fun!

No it is not. It may not be as full of life and energy as it once was, but it is not dead. And thanks to your servers holding down the fort... er, game grid - there's still plenty of fun to be found out there!

Of course, I wish more people would join. And what ever became of the rest of the regulars? Have we been forgotten about? Is the latest game that much better than the classic game grid we all enjoyed?

Come on folks! Games will continue to evolve and graphics get better and blah blah blah. BUT they'll never make another multiplayer game that is as simple and yet so incredibly addictive as light cycles!

One thing you should know is that we ALL sucked the first time we hit the game grid. It took me several months before I could get out there and not be derezzed within the first few moments of each round. And it took me even longer to really get any good at it. But even though I sucked, I LOVED the game and the experience of being out there with folks playing it. I hope you'll stick with it and not be turned off by some early quick derezzes. We ALL start out like that. I'm hoping you'll become a new regular out there. We need more of those!
