Yeah, the only long version of Dune I have is a copy (and a poor one) off the disney channel. It would be nice to get it on dvd, even though I can't watch it all in one sitting!

Isn't that an Allen Smithee film?

Red5 just has a way of saying things that come off as insulting to his fellow fans. I see it, I am surprised others don't, or at least don't stick up for themselves more often.

I too believe Lucas will put the originals out at some point when money dictates it. I have said clearly I would prefer a version that allows access to all three versions. I think that will come in the future.

If a newly enhanced DVD of TRON came out, I would grab it too, but I'd keep my originals because that's what I saw in the theatre that put me on this 22 year long path I am on.

The path of a fan, not a "purist". It's all TRON to me, and I will enjoy all of it on some level.

Just like it's all Star Wars to me, good and bad versions. I enjoy them all, just not as much as TRON.

I just don't want the movie makers to try to change my memories and tell me what they have now is better than what I saw that first time. I don't give a damn if there were boxes around the TIE fighters, it was there then and I still went back about 20 times. It's neat to see it cleaned up and pretty, but there was still WOW in that first version too!

It's an opinion, and nobody has to agree, it's just my POV.

From an artist's pov (I should have mentioned this earlier, but doh.)... I think he was probably not too happy with the movies.

Sometimes, artists tend to be very picky with whatever they create. Sometimes, they feel that it's not complete enough but go back and try to fix it. That tends to be very horrid because it'll end up into a never-ending cycle of going back and fixing it all over again just because in the artist's opinion, it's not good enough for him.

Kia,

Makes total sense. I understand it too on a certain level, but he has to realize that once he shares it with the fans and they love it, it becomes sacred in a way.

I'd illustrate it by saying - what if DaVinci had decided to go back and redo the Mona Lisa's smile after she'd made her debut? Is it really better? Is it worth the effort? Everyone loved the first version.

Artistic dissatisfaction aside, I don't think changing history is good no matter how you do it. If he wants to put out another version, great, do it, but don't take away what we first saw because that is what we loved.

I suppose if the first version sucked serious wind this might be a different tune because we'd want a better version, but Star Wars as it was was a phenomenon that allowed him to do all these other things. It should be preserved as it was on DVD for all time, and the SE versions and any future edits should be optional viewing right alongside it.

Again, just my opinion. I want my original Star Wars and my Star Wars SE too.

I think to any artist, the work is never really done. I know that's the way it is with me and my dabbling in manipulated imagery and production videos. There just comes a point where you "settle" for what you've got, but inside, you really want to keep tweaking and reworking and enhancing and fixing all those little glitches that no one but you will ever notice, but they still drive you crazy enough to feel that they MUST be corrected.

As for the original SW film itself - there was a deadline and investors who wanted their return and the time was up for production. The film had to be wrapped as it was, left-out Jabba scene, and even with some non-glowing light sabers in a few scenes (that still don't glow in the SE too either), and other "unfinished" things, and it had to be packaged for audiences to see.

So it didn't hit where Mr. Lucas had intended and he was unhappy with it. BUT it sure hit BIG TIME in the hearts of all the film-goers, who became life long SW fans!

This much I know - the director/producer of any film can never really see the film the way an audience will see it. It doesn't have the same "magic" on those who created it, as it does on the general audience. Not knowing, and not being able to really understand how the film impacted it's audience, Mr. Lucas and co. set out to finish his unfinished film and add to it some of the things he wished he could have 20 years prior, and (unfortunately) alter a few things that time has made him change his mind about.

I'd really love to see a fully restored ORIGINAL version of Star Wars. I'd add that to my collection in a heartbeat. I think most SW fans would. Sure, I'll take the SE version and enjoy it too, but I'd really like the option to see HAN SHOOT GREEDO FIRST!!!!

YES! I was THERE! I SAW HIM SHOOT FIRST!

Incidentally, in my 1979, 15 year old mind, I chalked up the boxes around the TIE fighters to "force fields". My imagination took care of the flaws.

Lucas stated in an interview sometime last year (don't remember the source sorry) that the orginal trilogy will come out on DVD but nor until the 2nd trilogy is completed and on home dvd. Id say look for the original set on dvd around 2006 or 2007

The point I was trying to make was that I believe the Special Editions of Star Wars are MORE then what you are thinking of as an "enhanced DVD". Are you saying that if someone now wanted to go back and redo TRON and replace all the hand drawn art with CGI. Put in different models for the light cycles, tanks, and solar sailer and in effect remove much of Syd Mead's, John Norton's, and Richard Tayor's work in favor of higher resolution and higher poly count models you'd take that in stride? Maybe I'm going out on a limb here but I think that would make a number of us rather upset. Sure I'd like to see work like that done but I'd say PLEASE do it for TRON 2.0 (the movie) and NOT our beloved TRON.

Just my 2 cents,
Carl

I'd accept it as an enhanced version, sure, but I don't want to be told I can't see the original version too. That's the case here. Lucas has blocked attempts to display it at theatres and professional organizations. He may have said it will appear someday, but for now he is acting exactly the opposite of that statement and keeping the fans locked into experieincing only what he wants them to see. That's wrong to me.

Are you saying you couldn't appreciate an updated version along with the original? What if Steven, Richard, Syd, Moebius and the rest of the crew did it?

I sure would...the difference is, though, that this wasn't the case. Dykstra and Fincher and the rest of the miniatures/practicals teams had their work, for all intents and purposes, erased in favor of (in my opinion) inferior CGI. Would I have had a problem with Lucas simply going back and cleaning up some effects shots? No, but he did more than that...Greedo shoots first and Han meets a dubious-looking Jabba in the hangar, for example.

George Lucas didn't do this because he was unhappy with the way the effects turned out...he did this to tell the effects-event movie world "Hey, look at me, look at me!" He did it for attention, he did it because he could.on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online

The only one insinuating that my posts are insulting to other board members, Dave, is you. Anyway...

I'm glad my post generated some good, healthy debate to this thread. And I must admit, that after reading everyone else's opinion, I, too, have been thinking about getting a hold of the original trilogy. The majority are right: it takes you back to a time and place; an atmosphere that now, is a struggle to regenereate.

As for Tron: I've got a faded VHS version, but I do like the improved version - on a TV screen I hasten to add.

A local cinema here (The Dominion) recently put Tron on for me - at a cost of £300. We raised the funds to get it screened, and grainy or not, it looked fabulous up on the big screen. Take it to the TV screen and I'd probably rather have the DVD.

If these posts (sighs tiresomely) are in anyway insulting please feel free to report me to the moderator. I'm not on here to cause a fuss, but I'll make no apology for provoking good, healthy debate. Seems it worked. Keep it up, folks.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

Red5,

I am the only one saying it, but I know I am not the only one thinking it. There is a big difference.

Healthy debate I have no problem with, it's your snide comments wrapped in 'humor' that I take exception to. The topic alone drove the conversation. It did not require you insulting fans for wanting to see the original films. That just makes you look like you are trolling in these forums.

I would also remind you that I am one of the Moderators here. Auric owns TRON Sector, Sketch, TRONProgram, Esotek, DaveTROn and a few others have the capability of managing these forums.

Stimulate healthy debate all you want with a good topic, but as soon as you start picking away at people with your little comments, I will be there. If you would just do that and stop with the other stuff we would have no problem at all.

Be a TRON fans, and discuss related topics with other TRON fans, that's why we are here right?

There is no paranoia involved. I have spoken to others in these forums who share my opinion of your posts. They also think I am wasting my time trying to talk sense with you and that posting publicly is foolish. I suppose they are right.

From this point forward, If I have a problem with your posts I am going to post it to you in a private mail. I will also consult with my fellow Moderators on what they think should be done. Then we will take whatever action we feel is necessary.

I also plan to discuss this with Auric today, since he is back. Perhaps he will have a differing opinion. From now on this will be handled behind the scenes. Happy posting!
