Lemme see, about my name...

In the big, wide, not-glow-in-the-dark world that is Real Life, I'm a writer. I write stories, poems, essays, and do calligraphy. I write. 'Tis what I do.

All (or most, anyway) of my screennames have to do with writing ('Chronicler', stuff like that). I wanted to continue the theme here, but I wanted it to sound Tron-ish as well. Because, um, duh. So, when Tronzilla and I were talking about it one day, I had an (okayfavoritewordcomingupyay) epiphany.

What did writers used to write with, back in the long-long ago?

Answer? Quills.

So, what would a weird, fantasy-and-folklore-obsessed author call her program?

Quill.

Aren't I clever?

And... I really hope I don't have to explain the .exe part. Srsly, guys.

My two cents. *bows*

Hey, everybody. Newbie comin' through. Pardon my electrons.

My name here, which has kind of been my "alternate" Tron-verse name since 1998, is kind of the Switched version of the main character from a semi-obscure Japanese game for the Sega Genesis, "Pulseman!" (The "Switchverse" is what I call the concept of an alternate universe where people are different in the sense of being the opposite _gender_, rather than alignment/personality. See the Red Dwarf episode: "Paralell Universe".)

Why be Pulsewoman here? Well, ya see, Pulseman is somehow half-human, _half-program_ (don't ask me how THAT works)...but anyway, in this game, there are two worlds. When in the outside world--which is also done up very high-tech and sterile looking in most levels--you are physical, but electrical, and can build up enough of a static charge to actually zap enemies from a distance by simply walking along the ground for enough time without jumping--but DON'T touch water. It's not like you have a few seconds to struggle back to shore. Oh no. Instant death. (Or would it be de-resolution...? I do know that when he dies, he glows for a second and then disappears.)

And then, when you want to catch up with the main villian and stop his evil plans, you leap INTO the nearest computer as literally an electronic pulse--using the Internet to bop quickly around the world! The inside-the-computer scenes are rather Tron-like, and for pete's sake, we already had the concept of an intelligent computer program anyway, even if they hadn't Gone There... Also sometimes you have to turn yourself into a spark and travel along an actual circuit diagram ala a microchip, navigating it to the correct spot like a maze.
I would definitely count this game as one of the other things that was Inspired By Tron, at least in my opinion...put it that way.

So that's me--half and half, between worlds and not quite of either of them. Torn between Program and User! (dramatic gesture)
Anyway, it seemed to kind of fit the board.

In the '80's, after Tron came out, there was also a TV show called Automan.

Because of Tron, I grew to love computers and computer animation and graphics. So the idea of a computer-generated superhero who comes from out of the computer to help humans (the Tron storyline, but turned around) was very appealing to me.

To be truthful, what got me was the superhero aspect. I grew up with superheros like Batman & Robin, Wonder Woman, Spiderman and the SuperFriends, so the chance to add a new superhero to the list drew me to the show.

And I'm glad I did! I fell very much in love with the Automan character. Handsome, yes; Charming, definately; A bit egotistical? Yeah. But still charming. And very childlike in naivieness.

And as I also love romantic fairy tales, I felt a little sad that he didn't have a girlfriend. Even the human women that practically flung themselves at him wasn't really in love with him. And Wally telling him that he couldn't really fall in love didn't help, either. I think by then, I was into RPGs, and my favorite part of that was character creation.

So, for Automan, I created Autowoman.

And because I was so much into RPGs, Autowoman became my Automan avatar for my early Automan stories. Unfortunatly, I do not have any of the orginal fics. I am now begining to write new Automan fics.

But that's how Autowoman came to be.

Autowoman (Yes, based on Automan...)

Yeah, I kinda feel sorry for him, too. I've recently gotten to see that show for the first time, and while some parts of it are really cheesy, Automan himself makes it for me. First, I like the way they write him as consistently _very_ different from a human. I like my aliens (and by that, I mean anything sentient but non-human; they don't actually have to come from another planet) _alien_, and with Automan they do that. They never just forget that he's electrical when it comes to something that would affect or be affected by electricity. He comes from another whole dimension with its own laws of physics and that shapes the way he thinks and acts in ours. (He often mentions his "world"--it's clear he comes from a Tron-like digital dimension, populated by living programs. After all, he mentions hanging out with Donkey Kong and Pac-Man. :P)
And they gave him _drawbacks_ as well...such as needing at least half a city's power-grid to keep going. Ya gotta admit, as superpower drawbacks go, that's a pretty hefty one.

Then there's the personality. Despite the arrogance he just...radiates Likeability Waves. For one thing, he's very polite, to everybody, even (especially?) to machines, and even in the middle of an emergency. He has a mental link with computers--which is neat right there--and _could_ just cut straight through to the data he needs, but instead always takes the time to _ask_ politely. (Can you call it "hacking" if the computer itself GAVE you permission? ) In addition to the naivety, which is always fun, he also has a tendency to sometimes get really INTO something and go around quoting catch-phrases every chance he gets. We wouldn't know anything about _that_ at all, would we?
By the way, GREETINGS, PROGRAMS!

And then there's the clever lines about how computers and humans aren't that different, after all. (Such as that exchange about how humans _do_ have programming...it's called a personality!) Much of it sounds like stuff that Commander Data would say on Star Trek: The Next Generation but bear in mind this was years earlier. This show gets into some of the same philosophy behind "Tron" and, underneath the sometimes goofy plots, can really make you think.
Also, as the very first hologram character on TV, it's interesting to compare Automan to other holograms from later on and see which elements are similar. For example, on Red Dwarf, the main reason you can't run more than one hologram at a time on the ship is not memory, but _power_ requirements. The Doctor on Voyager also has the ability to go "solid" or insubstantial at will. Stuff like that.

Anyway. I'll shut up now, and let the next person introduce themselves. Welcome, Autowoman! (I guess technically my character at the board would be similar, since I am also "from" the digital world but able to materialise here...) And remember, all us programs _are_ real...just different!

If you don't get my name, I'm not sure why you'd be posting on a Tron site.

Ram Herr Pistachios!

Ram - fave character (I'm so dull sometimes)

Herr Pistachios!- interesting story I once said that I would like to kill my German Teacher using only a tin of Heinz baked beans and a pasket of salted pistachios

I was henceforth nicknamed Herr Pistachios by my dear friend NoExcuses and the name has stuck for better or for worse

I have a strange love of my own nose

No joke!!

Shadow is a Hedgehog. Shadow the Hedgehog. Plus he's a user. And he's in Understrike Syndicate. Shadowunderstrikeuser. But we had to change the word 'Understrike' to an actual understrike to protect him from Crossthrough syndicate. Hence, Shadow_user.

My user came up with the name Xelaalex from the character he created named Xela, an annogram of his name, Alex, and put the 2 together. He finds it hard to think of names for online purposes and so uses either Xelaalex and Turqoisewater on most websystems.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pillwhere to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

It made for a cool user name. I would have never thought it was just an anagram and name put together!

My real name is David, and if you remove both of the letter D's from it, it spells Avi. At first I wasn't happy with it and planned on coming up with something a lot cooler, but it was basically Tron-ready and people thought that it came from .avi files...so I grew into it.where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online

Wow - see? You never really DO know where people's name comes from until they tell the story. I was sure it was from the avi video file format. To be honest, I think your reason for being "Avi" is a lot cooler.
