When you listen to the soundtrack...

on Tuesday, June, 14, 2011 7:41 PM
...what do people say?

I ripped both the T:L soundtrack and the R3mixed to my work computer. Normally I wouldn't dare listen to anything so geeky without headphones, but I can't wear them until my industrial heals more (I don't want to risk the earhooks pulling on it and setting my healing back) and I really wanted to listen (my coworker who usually sits next to me wasn't there that day so I could listen without bugging anyone). And besides, I figured anyone who recognized the music would be just as guilty of dorkkiness as me, right? I was surprised by the responses I got, though.

So first the intern asked me, "Is that Daft Punk?" Actually it was one of the remixes so I said "Yeah...actually, uh, no." I dunno if he recognized it as a DP-like sound (I don't actually listen to them so I couldn't tell you what their signature sound might be) or if he actually recognized the theme. I should've asked him. Another asked me if I'd ever listened to a totally different group that is steampunk and offered to burn me a CD...dunno how he went from T:L soundtrack to steampunk, but there you go.

Everybody else probably just chalked it up to me being weird. Hey, why not. They've heard me on a Friday blasting the Beatles and Stairway and such, so why not mix up their expectations a bit.

My partner has noted that the CDs are great for running to.

Just wondering if anybody else gets comments and what they might be. order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Well, when mom and I were in the car on the way to Prescott a week or so ago, she saw my sort of blissed out facial expression and asked me if I listening to the TL soundtrack.

I work frequently as the Digital Imaging Technician on film sets. So, I'm one of the only ones with a computer on set. I do a lot of editing, so I have a pretty decent sound system I bring with me.

I listen to a lot of electronic music, and people always love it when I can play it loudly when we're wrapping at the end of the day. Daft Punk and Tron included. I've never been given crap for it actually, but then again, I'm in a creative environment, so it might be a little different at other jobs.

Here's the real deal about this thread--Don't be afraid to be a geek proudly. When you have confidence in yourself for being who you are--no one will truly think you aren't cool. I suppose my statement gains truth as you get older. I'm 30 years old, and it is that way now for me. Plus, like I said earlier, I've surrounded myself with people that are as compatible with me as I'm going to find.on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online

Considering that the TL soundtrack and TL Reconfigured have been bestselling albums, I would guess that there are a lot of people out there who like listening to them, not just geeks. On a side note, I just saw a new BMW commercial that uses one of tracks from the original TL soundtrack (but for the life of me, I can't remember which one right now). It was very cool!

I brought the soundtrack to work one day and everybody wanted to borrow it. I couldn't pencil in everyone so for a while it was floating around my workplace, everybody loved it.

I did play Clu from the Reconfigured album over my cell phone while I was working. My friend recognized his theme, but couldn't place why it sounded different. When I told him it was the Reconfigured album, he started asking about the other tracks, alot of them weren't on my cell yet, but he heard End of Line by Photek and remarked how he thought it was cool.

I often hear people playing it in their cars and I often lean my head out take a listen.

Yes, this soundtrack absolutely rocks beyond belief!!!
It's pretty much what I listen to most of the time in the car.

And, just as an aside....

...well said Jalen! And so true!
And yes, I agree, some of that mindset and confidence does come with age.
At some point, it just becomes less about "what others think about you" and more about what you think of yourself, what's within you, what you do with your life and for the world. At some point, you start gathering with like-minded, compatible people, and you stop paying so much attention to those others who would try to 'dis you for who you are, or who would try to judge you for who you are.

At 47, I'm sure there are some folks - er, maybe a lot of folks actually, LOL - who think I probably "should" be acting my age and doing "responsible" non-geeky things like wearing a suit to work, driving a BMW, having a mortgage.
.....bwahahaa!....
Instead, I work for myself, dress like the surfer-version of Kevin Flynn on most days, make costumes and wear them to Sci-Fi conventions/charity events, have an apartment that looks like a shrine for Tron and Star Wars, and drive around either in my (very) old car listening to the Tron Legacy soundtrack at top-volume, or, ride on my motorcycle wearing a riding suit with reflective circuitry on it and a lighted disk on my back.
Do I get teased a lot for who I am? YEP. Do I care? Nope. I wear my fandom and my geekiness proudly. It's who I am. And those who know me and care about me like me and/or love me for it.
Moral of the story - nerdgirl1122, be who you are, cherish that, ignore the turkeys, and turn that Tron Legacy soundtrack up.
(and hey, the music just might attract folks into your life and circle who will appreciate who you are!)
Peace...

On the other side of the screen it all looks so easy.

Were they even nominated? Was anything? We can acknowledge our geekdom but the Academy wouldn't dare.

The Academy is all old farts and snobs. Getting some French DJs notorious in the US for being associated with Kanye West, and for ridiculous disco-themed pop to score your scifi film... obviously, it's just some crap to get the teenagers involved, right?

I listen to movie scores all the time. It doesn't really surprise anyone I know anymore.

Back when I was a dishwasher at a local country club I use to listen to "The Shadow" movie score and the chef asked me how I could listen to "that crap" without going insane. LOL. He looked like Gepetto with black hair. He had a thick British accent and was always throwing pots and cookware at the wall with his short temper. I think the music made him just that much more tense.

When I listen to this soundtrack or any other one ,while driving my car, I imagine the world around me looking like whatever theme I see in my head. Many times I see flashes of scenes from stories I'm writing. Kind of like Sir James Matthew Barrie in "Finding Neverland". I guess I see in augmented reality already.
