I like it! Too bad your not selling it. I don't have access to a laser cutter. Could it be made out of a sheet of Plexiglas? Paint the surface black, except for the grid lines. Then it can be lit up from the sides and bottom with LEDs or fiber optics.

Yes, painting plexiglass could certainly work. You can also cut acrylic with a normal band saw, so even the light trails can be made without access to a laser cutter.
