This is really scary programs. It's like the MCP is trying to spy on people with cameras and mics. bad enough they try to monitor people so much. Now in their own living room? And Microsoft came up with this great idea...
Here is the link!

Good thing I went with PS3 instead. Microsoft has always been rather shadey, wanting to police the Internet and restrict access and such. I'm sure its mainly to cover their own behinds in case someone tries to use their products to conduct illegal activity, but it also opens the door for them to do whatever they want. As paranoid as people are these days, Microsoft should have kept this under better wraps.

I'm pretty sure they were not open about it. And the terms of service do say they can and will record people. For any reason. I feel it's just an attack on the rights of the people.
And yes I am glad I also went with a Wii!
But of course with X Box the Kinect expansion is only optional.
They do have some explaining to do. Well now it's out in the open.
Doesn't surprise me as they are a computer company...
I see it as just a way to control and watch people in their own homes... they have no business in any user's personal life.
Yet they want to make people unwilling let them into their life.
If Nintendo ever comes out with something like I this I will not buy it.
Even if they didn't admit they were spying.. i don't trust anyything with a mic or cam always on.;.. in the system..

What's ironic, or " art imitating life" and "life imitating art" is it seems like Microsoft has become the real life version of Encom.. or maybe Apple is the real "Encom"... >_>

This is a logical fallacy. A business has zero obligation to respect your "rights". They're a corporation, not a government office. You're hooking your Xbox up to their system, using their communication protocols...what about their rights to keep their system free of perverts?
They do have some explaining to do. Well now it's out in the open.

They don't owe you jack. It was in the TOS...that's why anyone who just cycles through them without reading is a fool.

In order for the Kinect to work, your system has to be powered, the Kinect has to be attached, and you have to be running compatible software. All you have to do is UNPLUG THE DEVICE.
And again, this is a company, not the government. If you say they have no business in "your personal life", you don't realize that by hooking up their equipment in your living room and signing up for their online service you are BRINGING THEM into your life. Microsoft has a legal and commercial responsibility to protect their users from criminal acts, especially with so many kids using the service. If they marketed this product and did zero monitoring, it would leave them open to an unimaginable amount of legal liability. The Clu abides, man...

THIS. You need to check out the COMPLETELY UNOFFICIAL TRON TIMELINE!

Well yeah unplugging the device would be the best thing if you do get it.
But just the fact that they say they can and will record people for ANY reason.
Means they are going to be getting facial recognition voice recognition and have data on many poeple. They would otherside net have that info.
The scary thing is what if people don't unplug the device, what if it can be activate to record while it's off like can be done with a cell phone? Only way around it is to take the battery out of the phone. And that's the gov spying on normal citizens. It was in the news. What makes you think they won't abuse this game system? I am sure they will... and it's pretty scary. So yeah unplugging the blasted thing is the best thing to do.
Yes it's why i posted the article so people who don't read the terms know what they would be getting into. Also they are the life Encom! but worst! And Bill Gates is Dillenger...
They certainly created a good way to spy and control all the programs. Reminds me of how the MCP would monitor all programs at all times on that big screen.
And yeah it was all in the name of security. It always is. They know young kids won't read the terms.. so it's a perfect way to get them under their control grid. Funny how so many things in Tron are not relating to real life things. Game Grid... control grid.. and they used games to do it.

I'd say they both are! Yes Life imitating art. Such as the control grid.. in Tron is was called the game grid. RFID chips were called Identity Discs in Tron. Tron was so ahead of it's time! I can't wait until the new Tron Legacy movie. Glad Flynn is back.
WOW is does have the potential to see everyone in the room record them , see what they are wearing and then send them ads based on that. Oh and the record it to.
Of Course Microsoft denies they will do this. Then why does the system have that capability. And that's watching ESPN on live it says. I guess whenever you're not playing unglug the awful thing. Better yet take a hammer and crush it to million pieces.
http://www.lazygamer.net/kinect-becomes-espn-advertisers-wet-dream/
Just like a criminal saying I didn't do it. Microsoft seems to deny deny deny! When you defend and deny something so much you already look guilty.
Replies on these news articles show people are scared and concerned.
Cams and Mics that can see and hear everything in your home is just not a good idea no matter what. The wii has motion games you can play online. BUT no cam or mic. I don't other people to see me.. and I don't need to see or hear the person on the other side of the screen. Nor do I want them to know my voice.

SO glad I am getting a PS3 soon.
Thanks for posting about this. I heard about this Kinect thing, but didn't know much about it yet. I know how you feel all about this. Since my early days of Biblical studies, I was always interested with this kind of stuff. The government is trying to keep a hold on us all. Heck, if those days with the number of the beast(666) gets written onto us (barcodes) , I wouldn't be shocked peoples teeth will start to grind together..
It's really sad to see where our government is heading these days. Its kinda like Batman with his Brother Eye. Heck, even Jamiroquai even sang "Virtual Insanity", and it's just that. Beware of whats happening around you. The government will trick the system, and many people will follow that.
