Deadly Disks, all I said is that there have been some great mods out there and that perhaps you've missed out on them. That's all. If you're not interested in them at all, that's fine. But no harm in mentioning it, is there?

And I already stated that with consoles, you upgrade less frequently. Which is an advantage. But you still upgrade every few years, either way. One just costs less, in terms of hardware.

Compared to some debates I've seen on the subject, this one is very restrained. I don't really see anyone saying "mine is best, nyah nyah" just yet. I know I'm not trying to convert anyone here, just making observations.

I don't see any reason to stop the discussion, unless things get out of hand. Which I don't feel has happened yet. It will probably burn itself out soon enough, anyway.

I only really chimed in again because of the news about OnLive. Which is a service that I hope fails, miserably. It takes away too many customer rights and tries to lock you into permanently spending a monthly fee on your hobby.

See... I'm gone for a week and this is what happens... lol..

This is how I see it. It's like tobacco. Everyone has a flavor they like most (if you smoke but if not, then.. well.. good). If you smoke Camels, then you like that sort of thing. If you smoke Bristols, then.. ok... but keep in mind, nobody lives forever.

uhh.. that didn't come out right.

Ok... It's like getting drunk and pissing on a police officer.. uhh..... scratch that (bad memories)....

Ok.. it's like.... uhh... hmmmm.... ok... forget the whole damn thing. Lets just fight it out... lol.. (KIDDING)..

Deadly Disks, your clubs do suck; I've attended a few meetings out of curiosity, and not once did the cheap bastards have a taco bar.

They are a travesty of my clubs' own, noble ways!!!

At my clubs we always have a taco bar, with five kinds of shreaded cheese.

And a big bowl of Tootsie Rolls.

And booze.

And strippers.

And four big flat screens with continuous showings of Babylon 5, Star Trek, Star Wars, and Married... With Children. We're thinking of adding a fifth screen for Manswers, and a sixth for post-apocalyptic sci-fi movies.

And booze.

Oh, before I forget:

MINE IS BEST, NYAH NYAH!

Are we out of hand, yet?

Ah, we can all agree on strippers and taco bars!

See? We found some common ground after all.

For me there is one set of rights that trumps customer rights. And that's creator rights. Due to rampant piracy, the current model will die, one way or another. A subscription based service might be key to keeping the industry lucrative. Which means more games developed. Which means a better end result for customers (as the alternative is a diminished output).

Unfortunately, modding games will likely be a casualty. If a person can mod a game, chances are they can pirate a game. It sucks for the people like you who are proper customers, but the blame really isn't at the fault of developers. The honor system has been tried for years and a large enough group of our populace have proven their disinterest in playing by the rules.

The situation stinks, doesn't it. I buy legitimate copies of everything I want to own. And I'd like to be able to create modifications for games that I like, or play someone else's creation.

I hope that some kind of middle ground can be found. I think that, when it comes to games, a service like Steam is a good compromise. Much better than OnLive.

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

That it does. I see proponents of piracy state that change is coming. They say this alot, and they're right. Change is coming fast. Unfortunately, it's a change in the direction of mediocrity. This form of delivery method is such a step backwards, but it is one of the first real concepts that might stave off the losses incurred by piracy.
