Well, I remember watching on HBO The Making of ID4 and the director said he was inspired by the Mars Attacks cards. He said he one day he ran into a box of Mars Attacks cards. The first he saw had Empire State building being toppled over. That inspired him along with other things about doing an invasion film. I don't see anything wrong with being inspired by that. Stole the White House image? You do realize Washington has always been a favorite target for many Alien invasion films and comics? ID4 plays the destruction card a whole different way than Mars Attacks. I loved ID4. I remember seeing it in theaters. I love the total destruction aspect of the film. They did great with the special effects. It's just one of those shoot em up blow em up scifi films to watch and have fun. Sure it takes elements and ideas from other sources, but every film or story is influenced by other existing sources, no matter what.

I still have my light up Trendmasters ID4 alien space fighter toy. It rocks.

With regards to remakes, I don't mind if it's a film that NEEDS to be remade.

Remake Megaforce. Don't remake Citizen Kane.

Don't remake classics, like "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" just to put teens' asses in seats.

I keep hearing talk that there could be a remake of Fritz Lang's "M", and if so, that will be the worst idea in the long, sad history of bad Hollywood ideas.

If a film didn't work right the first time, then look at a remake. If a film is too dated, but the story worth updating, consider it. War of the Worlds did this and I highly enjoyed that film.

I rented "Penetration of the Black Hole", if this is a remake, I don't get it. In this one Maximillian is a big hairy guy, and you know that scene where he uses that whirling tool to kill Anthony Perkins......well in this version that scene goes completely another way!!!
