There's a rumor that's started, about how TRON 3 may begin filming in October this year. (I've archived the tweet too, just in case it gets deleted.)

Could it be DTV this time? This is literally coming out of nowhere. Then again, so did Legacy.
It's interesting, if only because Disney doesn't need the franchise, what with Pixar/Marvel/Lucasfilm in the fold.

Sorry, but that article isn't quite enough to take this out of rumor territory.
It uses the same source as the Tweet that originated the rumor. (Lindsay Barker is the one who posted the tweet.)
While that site going out on a limb means they might think they have a strong case, it still doesn't really verify this rumor. Still need a more credible source. Preferably a press release from Disney themselves. Or at least a quote from a Disney film executive.
Sorry if I come across as negative, but I just feel we need something a bit more "official" to go on, before we rejoice. Though, I admit, it's looking more and more likely to be true.
UPDATE: Okay, I believe we may finally have a source that's a bit more credible. I think I can accept this article's word, and that TRON 3 might just be greenlit.

Badass Digest, a reputable source at least as movie news goes, confirmed the start date and Kosinski's return:

With the fact that Legacy took about 18 months from the start of shooting to release, I figure that means summer 2017 is in play.

Not sure if this is real or not, but it has started a bit of a buzz. The source of all these articles is pretty weak, but something may come of it over the weeks ahead.

BAD is pretty good for these things. The writer was extremely skeptical about the VanCity Buzz piece on its own (he posted on a friend's FB and doubted its veracity), but usually if another source tells him it's happening, it's happening.
The Hollywood Reporter says Kosinski is attached, but no greenlight yet:

Yes, where there's smoke there's fire. I think they sometimes start these small rumors to get the buzz going. If the Hollywood Reporter picked it up it's probably going to happen. Or it'll get the folks at Disney thinking. The report about the new TRON videogame a few weeks ago is telling too.
I'd personally like to see another director take on the world of TRON. Hopefully, they'll get a better script this time too. Again, I LOVE LOVE TRON Uprising. That was a wonderful cartoon. Visual were AWESOME & I thought it was a cool, believable story that was a lot more true & fun/engaging and stayed closer to the universe of TRON. I still can't believe it was cancelled.

Long time since I've been here - thanks for posting the TR3N news: I'm definitely excited. Wasn't sure there'd be a 3rd installment after what happened with TRON:Uprising.
Also, given how the Shiva Laser works especially the 2 canisters at its base
AND
What the 2nd Screen feature on the T:L bluray showed Sam uploading to his flash drive, I have a few predictions:
A)Sam will be able to re-construct Kevin;
B)Sam will have to upload the contents of his flash drive into the ENCOM server-especially if TR3N expands on the clip revealed to us in the T:L DVD/BluRay extras, known as the Dillingers chat scene: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xhv8it_tr3n-tron-3-teaser-2-the-dillingers-chat-vo-hd_shortfilms.
We'll see probably in 2017. End of Line.
