I was just wondering if anybody wanted to start a Tron RP thread. I haven't done that in awhile, and I wanted to get back into writing again.

Should we start a thread? I have a couple of OC's I'd like to use.

One of my ideas is an RPG set in about 2000, set in either the ENCOM grid, or somewhere else entirely, where the grid is connected to the internet. I imagine a literal "Information Superhighway" where programs that require internet access (I.E. Email and social networking applications) go, where websites can be represented as buildings. I always thought that would be cool. Perhaps these places are controlled by programs called "Browsers" etc. But that of course means internet viruses

Don't forget Anonymous vandalizing everyone's websites >_> If it's present day, we could say that Sam Flynn created a sort of AI search engine/browser based off of Kevin's AI programs within the Grid. Little does the world realize what actually goes on within the internet and how their AI programs interact with each other.

It would be on a system unrelated to Encom or Flynns Grid so I don't know how you would migrate the characters. I like Anonymous being the villain. I'll make the thread tomorrow- as for the title, I'm thinking "Distributed Denial of Service"

Anonymous aren't exactly synonymous with 'net censorship... I'd put them more on the other side. They take down websites, yes, but those generally seem to be sites of large corporations that Anonymous feels are getting too big for their britches. A show of muscle, as it were, with a point to it. Not even remotely close to 'net censorship. I could more see them taking down sites of corporations who support 'net censorship, actually.


(I'd heard something a while back that they supposedly were ready to take on one of the drug cartels. I wanna say it was the Zetas too; they're one of the nastier ones. Apparently the cartel kidnapped one of Anonymous' people... Anonymous retaliated by saying "if he's not let go, we know who you are and we publish it; good luck staying alive once all your rivals know exactly who you are." I never heard what came of it, but I always wanted it to be a Jason Statham movie...)

anonymous would be an awesome antagonist force.... now to think of an OC character.... hmmmm....

Right now the big thing is Operation PedoChat, they're trying to take down websites that serve as hotbeds for the fraternization of child pornographers. But, back on the subject of rping. I'm very sorry I didn't post yesterday. I had the post written, but not uploaded, and this morning my pc unexpectedly broke down. I'm writing this post painstakingly from my cell phone, and right now it's inconvenient to write large rp posts, although for an interim replacement I'll be getting a laptop case for my iPad tomorrow and I'll use that to start the game. And Kat, maybe its be cool if the RP was about a hacker collective very similar to anonymous, but as the good side? As in the characters we play get involved in an anonymous style web operation, so things that they do like DDoS attacks and other means of web vigilantism are personified under a TRON theme? I think that would be very cool. Thoughts?

i think the idea of Anonymous being the "good guys" would not work well... they arent really the best group of people, thats for sure. now, a computer force similar to Anonymous (like you said) where they are Internet vigilantes would work well. i think youll be safe on that idea as long as Anonymous' ideas and beliefs are left out of it....

I wonder if it might not even be a group sabotaging Encom in some way, in an attempt to take it back (think of Sam's pranks but bigger. Could involve Sam if you wanted to, or I suppose Flynn Lives, or even Dillinjr [since I've always written him as an open-source advocate who doesn't exactly agree with Encom's practices all the time, and had also considered that he might be set in opposition to Sam in future because he has plans to rise to the top in Encom and make it better/make up for what his dad did, and he thinks Sam is just going to screw around like Flynn did and not do any good {and in the end, they may simply end up being another Flynn and Alan}]).



I'd actually done some work on a couple of fics where the Baines-Bradleys do have a kid named Jet... but it's a girl (more of using the name as a tie-in to get a female into the mix as a main character, than doing a gender swap or it having anything to do with the T2.0 storyline). I've got a couple iterations of Jet, but one of them is a hacker (as you can imagine, she's mostly estranged from her parents, who just choose not to ask how she makes a living )-- but like Alan, she urges Sam to get more involved with Encom than the pranks. Only her idea is, um, not quite the same as her dad's-- when Sam tells her Alan was once again bugging him about "‘Why don’t you come to Encom, Sam?’ With the usual undertones of ‘and why don’t you do something with your life besides sit in this apartment and play with motorcycles and plan future embarrassment for the company?’” her reply is:

“And why don’t you? Make a difference? You could take that company down if you wanted to, Sam. Why waste your time playing little tricks rather than putting some real muscle into it? Or you could start your own company. You could get the right people and I know you could become some serious competition.”
