Hey guys! Sorry, didn't get to post in the OOC or the RP thread last night. Got a weekly class on Wednesdays that involves commuting, got back kinda late as is usually the case. Not sure of everyone's time zones here but I'm in PST, so by the time I rezzed into the Grid here it looked like all you Programs and Users were offline and probably sound asleep. (Speaking of sleep ... neeeed more coffee. Reeeeally-really do.)
Okay, so ... just read through this OOC and the RP thread.
Exactly where to go from here in terms of getting to the portal? I have no idea.
I guess Clu 3.0 and I need to think-tank a little and get our plot ideas going in sync with the ideas Spark has, the Solar Sailer, etc??


Also, not to get too ahead of where we're at, but, about the Encom system tie-in, I like the ideas you guys have, for getting Flynn back to 82 and that somehow sends the others back to where they belong also. Have a couple o' thoughts there,...but first, here's the backstory I had sorta developed for Flynn at the start of this RP :
The laser research has just been discontinued at Encom due to shareholders' vote, ... Flynn's just conveniently taken advantage of that decision by moving Lora's laser equipment to his basement lab at the arcade instead and is planning to start his own research project, ... Lora's just taken a job in D.C. so neither she nor Alan are even aware that Flynn's planning to get the Grid going as a side-project.
So, one night Flynn's up late, overly tired from setting up the laser program, and starts working on a time-travel game on the system just for fun, to de-stress and unwind. Doesn't realize he's somehow batched the game and aperture startup files together without meaning to ... so then the laser initializes when he runs the time-travel game, and while he's typing in "2001" to set it as one of the game's time-period markers, he accidentally types "2011", hits "enter", and then digitizes himself in to the future, lands in the 2011 Grid.

Now, backstory said, now for how we could work the old-system tie-in with time-travel? - - one idea here : since Flynn would've wanted to import aspects and programs from the old Grid into the new Grid he's planning to build - (like, Tron, for instance) - stands to reason he'd already have a back-up of the whole Encom system Grid on his server there at the arcade. So, maybe with a time-jump back to 1982, voila - everybody's returned to where they belong.

That doesn't have to end the RP though, right?
Clu 2.0 and I have ideas to extend this post-Legacy plot for a while, and, all the 1982 Encom system characters could keep going too, either starting a new RP thread or just running an RP plot concurrently in the same RP thread we have now, ...(just maybe noting the year and that it's old system in a headline at the start of each post) That might be sorta like the flashback scenes they do in the "Highlander" films I guess, between past and present. Dunno,...just a thought.


For now, I'm off to post just a short reply in the RP since you guys have been waiting on me, and that'll keep us moving along.

1: When Rinzler and Tron are introduced to each other, it starts putting strain on the system and causing glitches. Two of the same person can not exist in the same time and place without causing problems.
2: By 'call', I mean communication of some sort. I don't know, maybe it's a memo of some kind. Use your imagination.
3: Exactly what I said. The disk looks normal - like the program left it on a shelf while he/she/it went to run an errand - but when you touch it, it becomes a pile of pixels.
4: I don't know, that's up to you.
5: Again, I don't know - because the club is where lots of programs gather. It was a suggestion, that's all.

Glad you like it. As a fanfiction writer, and someone who participates in RPs on a regular basis, I have some experience with making plots. Right now it's CLU 3.0 and FlynnOne who are driving the plot, so we're waiting on them.

That would also help set him on the path towards knowing how to work with the code strands and disks in the future, like he does in Legacy. It's going to take a lot more than one person to save Clu1.0, tk95. But if you really want to, you can be the one who grabs him out from under the Reco or something. Was thinking about this one... when Clu 1.0 first showed up he was with his tank. Assuming we go with the time-fold or time snap-back theory for how Flynn's arrival in the Grid had brought Clu 1.0 to the future from the old Encom system, then that would mean Clu 1.0 would be snapped right back to that same point in the past when Flynn returns, right?

So, .....what if in our current plot, Flynn suddenly realizes, "Oh no! He's going to go back in time and will be captured and derezzed!" ... then maybe before they leave for the portal he gives Clu 1.0 a directive, tells him to remember it once he gets back to the past, says it's very important -- and maybe the directive is something which would hopefully keep him from getting captured by the MCP to begin with?... ((dunno what, but like maybe he tells him not to fire that second shot at the Reco which made the tank spin into the gulley?)) Or somethin like that.
Just offering ideas. If a directive like that would help you guys work that plot out, I can write that in the next post as we're leaving for the portal.
