I have yet to figure out why the solar sailer in the movies is called the solar sailer, considering that there is no sun to propel it.
But I thought of you all today as I was listening to a segment on solar sails today on astronomy.fm.

The Solar Sailer in the original Tron was actually a prototype for a sun-propelled vehicle that Encom was testing with several computer-based calculations and simulations. This was visualized within the virtual world as the vehicle itself.

That also explains why Yori worked in a "simulation bay".
Wow, that's kind of a major unexplained side . . . thing. I wonder if anyone writing TR3N will pick up on this.

I believe it was explained in the novelization (I think, otherwise it was in one of the script revisions).
