Greetings Programs:
I've been working on a small non-profit documentary (writing, shooting, editing, producing, vfx, and other production tasks), about how the line between science fiction and reality has consistently been disappearing, and am posting a W.I.P. opening sequence. The documentary is called, "DIGITAL EVOLUTION: SCIENCE FICTION REALIZED", and it originally started out as a class project for one of my Wife's classes, and later I decided that I would expand upon it and do some really cool things with it (which will take me a while to do, considering Fatherhood, Husbandhood, and other video productions I'm working on). Here's a link to it:

When the whole thing is completely done, I'll be putting Tron-Sector in the credits in a Special Thanks section. Enjoy! More to come.
Thank you.

Hello MCPComputer and HooDooMan:
THANKS, Programs!!!! I mean that from the heart. I'm going to try real hard to keep this brief, as I have a problem with being long-winded, LOL!!!!!! In the beginning, it was a process of trail-and-error, and I was determined, no matter what, to make something that was close to a sci-fi film opening that I know and love.
EQUIPMENT USED:
MS WORD 2007 - No lie; I imported a free TRON font from the internet, and created the TRON-style titles using Word Art, building an effects plate with it (basically, the font, in blue, on a green background);
MS PAINT 2007 - Used this for fine-tuning the plate, LOL!!!! I'm a little behind in learning proper graphics programs, LOL!!! I just got GIMP2 and am slowly learning it;
SONY VEGAS - Platinum Pro 9 (for my initial experiments), then free trials of SONY VEGAS PRO 9, and PRO 10;
MS PAINT again - for building the "water" in the TRON-styled font that disappears, just like in the TRON title in the first film
Wendy Carlos' "Creation" track from the first TRON film
SOUND FORGE 9 & 10: I used this to fine-tune the audio;
ARTBEATS - a website with some really cool stock footage and animations; used this for the electricity effects, as well as the explosion
Used a free sound effects site for the sound efx (can't remember url).
Now, I'll go into the process behind it:
1)I kept watching the TRON title sequence from the first film, over and over and over again, looking at it frame-by-frame and deducing how the effects may have been done (I've never found an article that explains it);
2)After building my title, I then built the "water" that recedes inside the title, and the title itself, like such:
a)I grabbed footage of an ocean wave and zoomed it in inside the letters;
b)created several different "foam patterns" in MS PAINT on a green background, and
then keyframed them over the "water", then chroma-keyed them into the "water";
c)Changed the color of the "water" and added a little noise to the "water";
d)Keyframed a 3-D move in Sony Vegas, specifically Pro 9 and 10: first, I keyframed the
title moving into the camera, then keyframed it rotating in a second pass
e)I timed it so that it would match key points in the music, again using the title sequence
of the first film as a reference
3)I kept making several passes - first, I tried this project in Vegas Platinum Pro 9, but found that software to be a little lacking, so got the free trials for Pro 9 and 10;
4)Got a pic of a microchip from online somewhere, and keyframed the electric arcs; actually, an earlier version of this opening has a MUCH BETTER shocking effect, (complete with flashing and glowing, as the chip is being "cooked") and I'll incorporate that into the final version;
4)Converted it to first an avi., and then converted that to an mp4.
It's a long process, with all the keyframing and such, but I'm a detail-geek. It's going to take me a while to do the rest of it, because I'm going to try my hand at animating (by hand, and keyframing) some light cycle effects, and some other effects. Will post a link when I get it done. Thanks again, Programs. Now, it's time to find a white bodysuit, some blue Sharpie (to trace the circuit patterns), a white helmet, some white shoes, and a boatload of blue construction paper so I can key in the TRON world background. May possibly upload a sketch of my program suit. Will keep you all posted. Sorry for all the long-windedness.
Best Regards,
Renegade Program
