This is my theory of why Kevin Flynn was searching for perfection....
I think maybe you guys already talked about this? Not sure.
But after his wife died, he would go into the Grid a lot right?
And he said he was chasing after perfection.
Now he saw something in the ISO's DNA right?
He said disease would be gone right?
This leads me to believe his wife died of some
disease... so he was desperate to find the cure for
all disease.... it would be his gift to the world..
and at the same time.. help him deal with his pain...
with the loss of his wife.. being trapped in the Grid..
it's no wonder.. he did the Zen thing....
am I right? I think this is probably easy to figure out...
Am i right? wrong? what do YOU think?

Actually Jordan (K. Flynn's wife) died in a car accident. (As revealed during the Flynn Lives Alternate Reality Game)

I think Flynn intially thought that creating a perfect cyberspace world/a utopia for Users and Programs was what he was chasing after. That having a well ordered system would be most efficient. The Isos totally changed his perspective though..
But he had also come to realize that he had forgotten what really mattered was his son, that bond and love with his son was actually "perfection" and "what was right in front of him" and what he should of pursued instead.

Perfection involves control. So maybe he thought that by having the perfect system, there would be control, not chaos. His wife dying in an accident, that's something he couldn't control. Later he tells Q, Chaos, good news. so does that mean he isn't so into the perfect mode anymore?

Like Flynn implies in the movie, the Isos changed his perspective drastically.

I wonder if it was just the ISOs, though?
At any rate, Flynn obviously got idealistic and caught up in his idea of saving the world with what he discovered in the Grid...and maybe carried it a bit too far.

I thought maybe she fell ill or something.
well I think that you are right.
He wanted to save the world with what he discovered
in the ISOs.
But at the same time after Clu turned evil and game changed.
and he then had to stay in the Grid. To prevent Clu
from getting out and destroying our world.
So Flynn then gets into the Zen thing man
and learns the art of the selfless etc.

If you pay close attention to what Flynn said during that one flashback, Clu's surprise ambush of him and Tron delayed Flynn from making it to the "portal" before it closed.
Flynn said the portal closed before he could get to it, and like a bank safe, it can only be "opened" from the outside.
