Interview with Joseph Kosinski about the Blu Ray release, and some other interesting tidbits.
"How are you planning to expand the TRON Universe?
KOSINSKI: Disney is currently developing an animated series that takes place in the TRON universe before the events of TRON LEGACY. I am currently brainstorming with my team of writers and producers on what the next chapter of our story would be.
What aspect of the TRON LEGACY Blu-rays are you the happiest with?
KOSINSKI: After TRON LEGACY opened theatrically, I was able to go back to Skywalker Sound and fix approximately 100 different aspects of the sound mix that bothered me. So, the domestic Blu-ray contains that completely remixed and remastered 7.1 audio track."

Excellent interview.
I do hope someone pulls up Tron from the Sea of Simulation and brings him out of dormancy.... V_V

yeah, i found that statement about tron's fate much more exciting than a 7.1 mix most people will never have the setup to hear.

He isn't working on "Uprising", he is working with others/brainstorming about "the next chapter". Basically it's TR3N...

Blah, imho this interview feels dodgy. Kosinski's answers seem to evolve from interview to interview which makes me lose faith. I'm just going to say it now, Kosinski is no Gondry. Open doors, like open minds

I can understand your point, but a lot of people are upgrading to 3D tvs and 7.1 audio. This is currently, by critical review, the BEST 3D movie to highlight these new audio video systems. If you are in a Best Buy, Costco, or know a friend, boss, drug dealer with that kind of system, let them know what movie will help them SHOW IT OFF.

Perhaps im being too critical, but i work in this industry, so my elitist views tend to bleed into my words.
Even on the job, the difference between a visionary and a fisherman director is very apparent.
Once upon a time i was an archive boy in a vault of old films, I remember my boss (mentor at the time) showing me old Hitchcock storyboard scans, and explaining that all of his movies were more or less shot to shot accurate to his storyboards. Hitchcock said once that he hated production, because of how boring it was, hed already seen the movie.
This type of crystal vision is rare, and few directors have the guff to say they have it. IMO to make Tron Legacy and future installments of this franchise enjoyable and true to the original, we need a visionary, not someone who's poking around at ideas and going with what the masses will like today.
Unfortunately, I am not accounting for the obvious. The true Tron fans are quite older now, and are the only ones that give a flying F about how true the story is. However Disney is clearly not catering to just those old folks. Kids now days command alot more of their parents money.
*EDIT*
My apologies, this should be in another thread.

Pullfocus.exe, I see what you're saying. There's still a few things i didn't like about T:L, but overall, when a film is made based on source material (the original TRON film), I think it needs to stay faithful and in the same spirit as the original content it's based on. While I give some respect to Kosinski, I think that Lisberger was more of a visionary (especially moreso than the 'LOST' writers for the most part). Sometimes, I think that this fear that some have of letting the current trends set the pace is not good, and I think that more and more people who create media should allow their vision, and not what marketing execs trying to "fit in with the 'hot' thing today", dictate to them. I hope that TR3N goes back to some of the basics that made TR1N the landmark that it is, i.e., the suit designs, including Dr. Lora Baines-Bradley & her digital counterpart, Yori, I/O Towers, more representations of computer programming (more than just someone touching a mirror and then - voila! a computer program exists), etc. Fighting for TRON, The USERS, Both Flynns, Independents, and the mighty ISOs since '82. |

We're going to have to come up with something else for TRON 4 besides TR4N because it reminds people of this: http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/new-bravo-show/227155/TR3N is what we're calling it. It's already caught on, but if you try to write 3 differently on paper...it looks better I swear.

Hmm. Here's a similar interview with Kozinski but it does have a few new details that flesh things about a bit more at:

Read the little tidbit regarding Rinzler and Flynn (evil grin). I. CALLED. IT!!!
And a few others have as well, too. You know who you are.

LOL from your keyboard to the Grid gods' ears.
Saw my first Tron Legacy DVD advertisement today. I know, I don't watch TV much anymore so forgive me if its been shown days earlier. The countdown begins. And damn, wouldn't you know I've been scheduled for late shift Tuesday? I'll buy it after work but save watching the extras til the weekend.
Forget it, Mr High and Mighty Master Control. You aren't making me talk.

Oh, I'll be getting the Legacy DVD as well when it's released. But still, that interview confirms my suspicion that those two characters will return in the next installment. So, consider this. If Flynn Sr can be reintegrated, so can The Rebel Called Clu!!
