Got tired of waiting for my partner to return the movie he got from Netflix so we could maybe get Tron, so I went to Blockbuster today. Not knowing what section it would be in, I asked up front.
"Oh, no," the guy said. "Disney pulled all of those back from the video stores about five years ago." Say what?
Have any of you all heard this? I had no idea. So pretty much there is no seeing the original for me until the re-release comes out and hopefully the video stores buy it (because I'm not sure I want to buy it myself)?? I think they did pull them off the shelves so they could make more money
with the release. It's a pretty smart move on their part.
Netflix doesn't have the original Tron either.
They say they will have Tron Legacy
and hopefully Tron as well.
I am buying Tron either way when it comes out.
I'm glad my buddy has a copy of the original Tron.

I think this is a common practice of Disney's, to release their films for a limited time and then yank them from the shelves. I guess they believe it gives them a "mystique".

Apparently, back in 2007, the Department of Homeland Security randomly deemed Tron to be ~sensitive material~ because of the scenes that were shot at the Shiva research facility. They demanded Disney act on the aforementioned ~declaration~, unless Disney wanted to find themselves in some very hot water.
So, while their attempt to recall the brunt of the videos was pleasantly half-hearted, it still happened.

When I moved, I gave away a bunch of my videos. So glad Tron wasn't one of them. I still have a VCR so can watch it anytime. But when it comes out on DVD, I will buy it. If you web search The Making of Tron you can watch the docu in pretty good quality on YouTube. |

I managed to buy the 20th Anniversary 2 Disk special edition when it came out in 2002.
That's lots of places you could try lookining-Amazon, E-bay, etc

Is it confirmed that the release of Tron on DVD/Bluray will have the same material that is on the 20th Anniversary and maybe some more tat we haven't seen before?

I didn't want to have to buy it, though. I don't really buy DVDs...I think I own exactly one DVD, and that one was bought for me.
Thank heaven for interlibrary loan, though. I swear the last time I searched the library catalog, I couldn't find a copy, but my coworker urged me to try again and now I have it reserved.
