Actually you just hit the nail on the head. Lucasfilm definitely had a hand in it to keep Star Wars awareness primed for the blu-ray release this year.

Please. You make these outlandish claims about "Disney paying for the halftime show and the Best Buy commercial to resemble TRON" with no physical proofs. And were supposed to believe you? Dude get some therapy cuz you are on a serious conspiracy trip. "Word to the Motherboard!" - IsoLine |

You know how you can tell? They actually used a real costume............
and the real music.....
Now, if Daft Punk had been the halftime performer, the show would have been freaking bad-ass. You're making me depressed, if Disney had bought the halftime show (on a competing network) it would have been so much better than the 'tron-esque' stuff we got.

It's all about building awareness. The Superbowl is the biggest advertising venue of the year and the most expensive and highly coveted air time. Only the biggest corporations can afford those spots like Lucasfilm and Disney. Just because a pop music group is wearing the costumes doesn't mean Tron has suddenly become this big pop-cultural phenom you'd like to think it has become.

They flew in on discs and the stage was a disc.
I wouldn't be surprised if disney sponsored all of the Tron related stuff.

Exactly, and not only a disney movie, but any movie.
So something is widely known to people now, shouldn't you be rejoicing instead of whining about it? Jesus it's not like this board are the only people that are allowed to like TRON or even be aware of the movie's existence. ____________________________________

Kinda like Timberlake's/Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" just before the release of both their new albums?

I think that's kinda irrelevant after growing up anyway. Bullying tends to stop then for all but criminals, because once you're over 18, it becomes harassment, which is punishable by law.

If the Superbowl had been on ABC then I might have thought that Disney paid for the Half-time show, but fact is, they didn't. If they HAD they would have plastered the Tron logo all over the place.
Honestly, 'inspired" by Tron might even be stretching it. I didn't even think the BEP had anything to do with Tron until I saw this page, two days AFTER the Superbowl.
Plus if Disney had bought time on the Superbowl broadcast (besides sponsering the MVP with the whole "I'm going to Disneyland" thing) it would be public knowledge since Disney is a public company and they have to announce all their spending.
Jim Hill would have been all over it too.

Show us irrefutable proof they didn't.
And for those who doubt LFL was involved in the VW commercial:
Star Wars Volkswagen Commercial Heading to Super Bowl
January 27, 2011
Volkwagen of America, Inc. recently announced that it will premiere two 30-second television commericals during the 2nd and 4th quarters of Super Bowl, and one of them will have a Star Wars theme. The ads will showcase two new vehicles, the all-new 2012 Passat and the 21st Century Beetle, months before they arrive in dealerships this Fall.
"We've partnered with Lucasfilm for the all new Passat ad, leveraging the emotional heritage of both Star Wars and Volkswagen to create a memorable moment," said Tim Ellis, Vice President of Marketing for Volkswagen of America, Inc.
With its all-new 2012 Passat ad, Volkswagen brings Star Wars to one of TV's most talked about events. Accompanied by John Williams' iconic "The Imperial March," the spot features the most infamous villain in the galaxy, a pint-sized Darth Vader who uses the Force when he discovers the all-new 2012 Passat in the driveway. Here's a peek.

Anyways, back to the original topic-- it's kind of getting a little easier *not* having to explain my Tron shirts. ^^;
I'm still known for being a big fan of Tron whether its cult status is present or not, I mean, people still refer anything Tron-related to me. :x
