Coupled with the argument about the latest "incident" with Black Eyed Peas, all the frustration just reminded me of this...

I feel the same, and not the same. I feel cheated a tad, but when thinking about it like music, I'd rather have everybody in the world listening to something GOOD than listen to truly remarkable stuff while the world drowns in Ke$ha.

Yup, what you said.
I'd rather it be popular for being good, interesting, and at least somewhat unique (like, say, The Dark Knight or Inception as recent examples), than being popular because it's bad but heavily marketed to gullible people who have no taste.

Hipocrites. I for one love how almost everyone on my campus compliments my Flynn Lives shirt and asks where they could get one.

Tron's cult status isn't lost. Disney just sold out and paid to have these clowns dress up as part of their promotion and marketing money they spent on Legacy. If Disney hadn't paid millions nobody, and I mean NOBODY, would be wearing Tron costumes during a Super Bowl halftime show.
I'm sure if Lucasfilm wanted to they could pay more to have them all wearing Jar Jar Binks costumes.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

I agree. The First Tron, will forever be a cult film. There will be many people who won't like it once it's re-released on Blu-Ray and DVD, but will like Legacy.

I actually never cared that much really. I learned to deal with isolation at a very young age and that kinda trickled into my passions as well.

As you already said in another thread, you're growing up in the "nerds are hip" era. Therefore, you wouldn't understand what it means to go through a child/teenhood of ridicule for what you are, only to see that people 10 years later are being worshiped for being that very same thing. '> |

I think we need concrete proof that these events actually took place before we just believe this. I mean really, it strains credulity. "Word to the Motherboard!" - IsoLine |

I highly doubt Disney had anything to do with the Super Bowl Halftime show.
What I imagine is that the BEP tried to come up with a 'hip' idea for the half-time show a few months ago and thought Tron might be the thing. It hit pretty big but certainly didn't just take off or anything. And two months later their 'homage' comes off as late and pretty lame.
I was at a Charlotte Bobcats game in early December where the cheerleaders came out in lit TRON-esque outfits. The music was a lot more true (electronic not bad pop) and the show came off a lot better. But the timing itself was a lot better too, timing is everything and it's too late for a Tron homage in 'pop' culture.

Just because they copied TRON doesn't mean Disney paid to have them do it. I personally need to see a statement from Disney that states the exact terms you described in your earlier post if you are to be believed. Though I am cynical too, I don't believe Disney paid for this performance to be put on in any fashion.

Don't kid yourself. Disney TOTALLY bought that act just like the Justin Bieber commercial. And you guys wonder why Tron's marketing budget was over $150 million... here's why. I think if Disney had anything to do with the halftime show or the Best Buy commercial that the suit designs would have been a lot more accurate. Those were basically bad fan-designs. If Disney had bought either, they would have used the Tron name. They would have run a Tron Legacy commercial promoting the upcoming DVD.
They would have done anything other than what we saw, which was two really half-baked ideas gone wrong. At least Ozzy was pretty funny.

That's the idea. The focus is now on building awareness for the Blu-ray/DVD release. It's not just a coincidence that Blackeyed Peas and Best Buy were promoting Tron during the Superbowl. It's very expensive marketing real estate and it had Disney's name all over it.

If that was the idea they pretty much killed it. Everyone I know has said it's basically the worst halftime show anyone can remember.
I sure hope Disney had nothing to do with that tragedy. We'll just have to agree to disagree, as I think if they really wanted to sponsor halftime, we would have seen Tron/Rinzler, Clu and other characters. Not some silly half-ripoff worn by some band who got famous ripping off pop culture one half-beat too late.

I dont think it's lost much of it's "cult status". I do think it's a good thing if vastly more people enjoy the Tron universe and enjoy the both Tron movies. Just hope they will be more open to enjoying the original TRON and not just Tron Legacy...
I do agrere with IsoLine, as I don't beleive Disney had anything to do with BEP's imitation Tron-ish outfits. I need actual credible evidence that Disney was involved with BEP's costumes.
I don't care for their awful music, and as I said before I think their attempt to look "cool" and "hip" by wearing Tron-ish and sci-fi style outfits is lame, as lame as trying to mix motor oil into a bowl of chocolate and calling it a fudge cake.

Yeah right. And Ozzy and Bieber are just trying to be hip by jumping on the Tron bandwagon as well. The Superbowl is exactly 60 days from the Blu-ray/DVD launch. This was all strategically timed. Hey, what did you guys think about the Star Wars Blu Ray commercial? I thought it was great, using the force powers to start a car really made you subconsciously want to drive to Best Buy and buy the Star Wars Blu Ray! You guys quit talking you don't know how studio marketing works!
