LWSrocks Wrote:No, not really. Because I don't like what they were doing, but it's still intended to be an homage. This is the Black Eyed Peas' way of saying, "This is such an awesome movie that we're referencing it in multiple performances." Believe it or not, there are many kids out there who idolize bands and performers so much that if said performer liked something, said kids will be more likely of viewing/listening to it and in some cases, more likely of enjoying it.

And the whole Justin Beiber thing seems less of a ripoff/homage and more of a coincidence to me. It was probably more of an attempt at looking futuristic than looking Tron-like. And even so, you'd be surprised how many people like Justin Bieber and if any of them thought it was tying into Tron, which they probably don't, then it might make a difference to them.

I think both were calculated moves. B.E.P. has been using the "lightcycle" in their tour before the movie was even out, cashing in on the look and spirit of TRON and probably not paying a dime to Disney at all for appropriating their imagery. I already argued the negative merits of them doing this in another thread but I digress. If they were such lovers of TRON, they could do some free publicity by telling their fans to go see the movie, or even giving away tickets or something that actually "makes" fans put their asses in a theater seat to see THE MOVIE and not some Poseur wannabe singer "air surfing" on a prop that is so obviously taken from an upcoming movie that it is a crime. Bieber was pretty bad too, but in retrospect I can abide by his commercial as it came after the film was released so any real cashing in probablities are low if non-existant.

It's about incongruity of styles. Imitation to a certain degree is flattery, and an homage is fine when it's not incongrueous to the form or style of the people presenting/expressing it.

IMO BEP and Beiber stylistically and thematically in everyway are NOT really congruous to techno-cyber sci-fi vibe of the Tron style aesthetic.

It' like Slim Whitman showing up in hardcore Heavy Metal outfit with spiked gaunlets and then brings out a ukelele and sings "oh suzana" full on country music style. It's just doesn't really "fit". Understand? :/

All that concerns me is how poorly the half-time show was received. Everyone hated it more or less, though that's mostly the Black Eyed Peas fault. Unfortunately, with the whole Tron homage they had going, people may look unfavorably on Tron and its "look" if "Black Eyed Peas failure!" also springs to mind.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill onlineabortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion

LWSrocks Wrote:And what do you hate about Justin Bieber so much? He's a talented singer, whereas BEP is just autotuned.

Well....I don't like his music. Other than that he's another unneeded "teeny bopper" who's heart and soul has been sold for money and fame, I really don't like his music, he's been sold as a sex symbol while still being 12 years old, sings and talks like a girl, doesn't write his own songs, says stupid things in interviews, doesn't seem to be very bright, acts like a diva, he slapped a fan, and I just do not like him. I don't so much hate him as I just do not like him. Same as everyone else.

IsoLine Wrote:"Doing it right". That is your opinion, to us "not biased by pop-music lust" both sets of artists (and I use that term lightly) are ripping off the style of TRON legacy when neither should be. Your arguement of who you like better though enlightening is kinda a mess too. It doesn't matter how much you like either BEP or Bieber, you can't vocally disqualify one and permit the other without it looking hypocritcal and your comparison of Carrot Top VS. Bruce Boxleitner is also laughable because you are comparing an acting role (which producers and casting directors make judgements of who is appropriate all the time) to performances by two different people using a style of costuming. Anyone can go out and make themselves look like something from TRON LEgacy, it's not a "thing" which can only be relegated to one individual like an acting role.

So you're saying you don't mind? You like that Bieber was involved in that commercial? You said you disliked him too, but you're defending him. By your logic, anyone and everyone can and should rip off Tron Legacy without hesitation. Lets bring in a hokey CG Yogi Bear and Boo Boo in Tron style for a hilarious skit now! I have opinions and would rather not have one person be even remotely related to Tron than another. What is so difficult for you to understand about that? However, if it will make you happy, then I will say that no one should be allowed to use Tron Legacy's style. As long as it keeps Bieber and other rip off artists away from something we all know and love, then I'm for it. I'm not going to sit here and have a silly flame contest about this. Its simple. I don't like him and I don't like BEP, but given the choice between the two, I'd take BEP. I have an opinion, as does everyone, about who is good and who is bad. I have my own right to believe someone else can do better at referencing Tron than another. I can and will say what I want about it as well. Their concert thing was nifty and I liked it. I do not like Bieber or anything he's ever done. That's it, that's all.

And you are a hypocrite and that is what I will say when you criticize one individual using TRON-looks over another. You can be a hypocrite, I don't care, but I have the right to call you or anyone else on it when I see it. For the record I don't like Bieber or B.E.P. doing their TRON ripoffs and had I a choice, I would keep both from doing them. And I am not defending his right to do a TRONesque commercial I am saying that I think you are a hypocrite for saying that B.E.P was okay doing their TRONesque show but Bieber had no right to do it. Just because you don't like Bieber and you prefer (if not outright like) B.E.P. doesn't mean you can get away with saying he (Bieber) shouldn't be able to do such a project and B.E.P. gets a free pass to rip off TRON. LOL... there's been plenty a God awful homage, etc. that's been done to the STAR WARS franchise, and those definitely didn't have a detrimental impact to it.

OK, I'll be optimistic about it. It did look very nice, but even BEP fans might have to admit it was a sub-par performance, musically speaking.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

The first song, with the glowing green TRON-like guys just amazed me. Thought that part was awesome. The rest was standard entertainment, enjoyable enough, but the first song I thought was AWESOME!

LWSrocks Wrote:They aren't "cashing in" on it, because nobody paid to see the concert for the purpose of seing a lightcycle in the air. They would have made the same amount of money if the lightcycle wasn't there, which pretty much nullifies any prospect of them "cashing in on the movie". Because they aren't. If anything, they are losing money on buying expensive props like that.

You don't know that though. Do you personally have knowledge that more people didn't attend their concerts once they heard the "lightcycle" was there? Even if one person went to the show with the purpose of seeing it because "They have the lightcycle", that means that any one or many individuals going from that vantage point was more publicity for B.E.P. and not necessarily Disney, which I guarantee didn't get a cut of B.E.P.'s profits from the concert, with a ripoff of their lightcycle in it. Not only that but you don't know that prop was actually "that expensive". The creators of the prop could have drastically cut their prices just so that they could have their handywork in a professional concert. Basically they cross-polinated with a well known icon from a soon to be released film and rode the profits to the bank, probably (and very likely since we haven't heard word one about Disney receiveing any monies for the use) all to themselves. This is why Disney has sued viciously anyone that uses their images without permission. The fact that they don't appear to be doing that to B.E.P. No, you still don't get it. I said that BEP did it better, and seem to be obvious fans of Tron Legacy, therefore they can do a better job at it. When I said I wanted Bieber as far away from Tron as possible, I wasn't even considering their musical talents. I was thinking about general likeability. All Bieber did was a commercial, and that compared to the BEP concert was much worse in my opinion. BEP actually used set pieces and official material whereas that commercial just sorta ripped off the look without mentioning the movie. Bieber isn't even responsible for the commercial, just being in it. I only said I want him far away from Tron, and that I liked BEP's concert. I see no hypocracy there. I won't resort to name calling like some people, but you continue to miss the point I was trying to make. So I'm dropping this here and now. I don't see why this is even an arguement. Its stupid. You're welcome to your opinion and I'll keep saying what I think of it as well. It doesn't mean you're right and I'm wrong or that I'm right and you're wrong. Starting a fight with a member of the board is not something I care to participate in. There are actually a number of people I'd prefer to stay away from Tron, not just him. But you yourself could be considered a hyocrite if you say neither BEP nor Bieber can, but someone that YOU like can. If its all or nothing, I'd rather have something. I just prefer that something not suck.

Oh, and DaveTRON, I love the cultural reference video you did. I wasn't even aware of some of that. Particularly the Cheech and Chong do Tron one. I guess all in all, references to Tron are welcome as long as they are done in good taste and not to rip off.abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion

LOL!! Yeh kept that show flying high while it has jumped the shark while riding sharks at least three times. Big fan of the show, I'll admit it has reached new painful levels, but I have noticed that Charlie's (real life) drunken episodes seem to keep the show popular. It is like his train wreck of a life is a real life promotion for the train wreck of the show. Seriously.

(the whole "awareness" thing...)

You know, the Holiday Special kept Star Wars on the map. Remember, no video tape to speak of (though boot legs of the movie existed, and we had a bad copy on Beta) so people loved seeing more STAR WARS in any way you could get it.

All the actors and Actresses were there for cameos.

And of course they couldn't afford them for long periods of time, so they filled it in with 1 hour of mulch. Some was interesting, some was hit or miss.

But what was good were some amazing parts. For example, Boba Fett made his first appearance in the cartoon segment of the special. I remember for weeks at school we were talking about Boba Fett, and soon after, we were excited about the figure offer that came out for the figure by sending in proofs of purchase.

In a nightmare years later I remember Leia singing. I say that tongue in cheek because it did happen, I had forgotten where that happened, and years later I saw Leia sing when I saw the special again. She wasn't all that bad, but not all that good either. :P

You saw the Wookie homeworld for the first time, and the canteena again.

All and all, believe it or not the holiday special was amazing for us fans, and I for one sift through it all and take what nuggets out of it I can get, and for many Star Wars fans they would agree that nugget was the animated segments that showed us Boba Fett for the first time.

And I am huge Fett fan. where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online
