Anyone else not a Tron fan prior to Legacy?

on Friday, January, 28, 2011 4:32 AM
I must confess that while I was an 80's child, I was born in 81, so when Tron came out in 82 I was too young to have known it existed. I never even recall seeing it on TV throughout my childhood. In recent years, thanks to the internet, I became aware of its existence, but never gave it a second thought.

That is until I saw a trailer for Legacy and the production design immediately grabbed my attention. I had never seen such a visually stunning world, and I instantly wanted to know more. I decided to watch the first one to familiarize myself with the mythology, and use it as a gage to see if I would want to go see Legacy. It's a shame Disney was so worried that the original would turn people off, and thus made it difficult for anyone who wanted to watch it first to do so. There's so many aspects of Legacy I wouldn't have appreciated if I hadn't seen the original first.

So yeah... that's my story. Wish someone would have turned me onto Tron when I was a kid, but better late than never.

End of line

I'm a '97 teen, but I still saw the original tron on tv when I was like 5. I remembered the scene where they drink water and when the solar sailor goes out of the I/O tower. I had it bugging me still when I was 13 and I was trying to remember what the movie was. I became a true fan when I saw a trailer for Tron Legacy a week before release. I went to see it. I always like Tron as a kid. I didn't know why, but it was different. I wasn't into Star Trek or Star Wars, but Tron did something for me. Everytime I would watch it I would find something new. Whenever I went to the local video rental and there was nothing new available, I would revert to Tron. Video Games and Computers as a story for a film in 1982 were way ahead of its time, let alone the beautiful art design of Tron.

I remember watching the first film as a kid and becoming a fan, but my best friend never saw it and became a huge fan after seeing Legacy.

I've always really respected Tron while not really being a fan until Legacy.

Back in grade nine, I was working on a Star Wars fan film with a slightly older friend. One night we took a break from editing and VFX work (oh, the days of rotoscoping lightsabers) and decided to watch a movie. His dad had Tron on VHS, and I remember being struck by how incredible the design was in the movie. I had a religious experience watching Tron: filmmaking does not have to be literal, art design does not have to be explicit. It can all be representative, it can be allegorical, it can create worlds that are aesthetic experiments and delve into the culture we're creating by building a totally unique world.

I never really clicked with the original movie -- still haven't. But that mental revolution has always stuck with me. It's informed almost all of my art since then.

Legacy did something else, though. It was a genuinely fun experience, and the design was almost perfect, and it kind of mirrored my own development as an artist. Representation does not have to be as abstract as it was in Tron, it can be somewhere in between.

Tron came out exactly the year I was born so I didn't respect it until much later. Unsurprisingly, I think I know it more as a pop-culture icon than anything though. My brother is older than me and liked it too, so that is probably where I was exposed to Tron the most. He bought and restored a Tron arcade. I remember loving the cabinet and hating the game.

Wife is a few years younger than me but we're both Tron fanatics now after seeing Legacy, but we throughly enjoyed Tron (1982) when we watched it the day before going to see Legacy.

So in a sense, I wasn't really a fan until Legacy, but was exposed to the franchise through games (arcade and Tron 2.0) and have always respected it since I can remember.where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online

Oh man, I was into Star Wars as a kid. My friends and I got made fun of in elementary school for playing imaginary Star Wars and X-Files games at recess....only imagine if we'd been into Tron instead!

The other kids: "haha, you're dorks!"
Us: "F-- you, programs! Your coding is corrupted! Don't make us call the MCP to de-rez your asses!" *all pull out homemade discs made out of cardboard or something*
The other kids: "huh??" (at least Star Wars, they could understand...)

I'm going to admit that I only in recent years learned to appreciate the original! Recent years, being the first time I saw it was when the 2002 version came out.

I was a Star Wars, Batman and Indiana Jones kid. I would have LOVED Tron when I was little, but I never saw it growing up and then the movie gets dissed and dismissed so much, that for a long time I just assumed that it was terrible, which is a real shame. Once I saw it, it changed my life. That sounds cliche, but when I realized how much I loved this movie I immediately saw that you can never trust the population at large when it comes to what "sucks" and what doesn't. I always thought that I didn't follow the crowd, but as far as Tron goes, I just accepted that it was bad for a long time, because everyone says it is! I mean, even The Simpsons ridiculed Tron by making a joke that no one ever saw it and when one person does claim to see it they immediately take it back, like and say they didn't, so everyone else won't judge them.

That was longer than it needed to be, but anyway, I'm somewhat late to the Tron party, though I have to say I'm really glad that we have the '02 one, because it looks like that DVD is super-hard to find now for some reason!

I am a young person (I was (-16) when the original came out, lol) and I never really heard of it until I heard of the sequel. I was part of another fansite that talked about everything that the actors were in too. They were talking about Michael Sheen being in something called TR2N, the sequel to TRON.
This made me want to watch it because of him, they showed a commercial for it (and it looked AWESOME). Jump to September 2010 and my BFF invited me to a church party.
Josh(the guy running the party) asked if we wanted to watch TRON or something else (I dont remeber lol) then I remembered that there was a sequel with Michael Sheen. So we watched it. I could only remeber a few parts-"that movie where the guy has to talk to the person playing the game", Ram's death (at the time I was glad because I couldn't tell the difference between any of them although I'm sad now ), people climbing something, and the "things that attach to a track...
Then in December a little before Christmas, I saw the TRON HISHE rap. Somehow this triggered something and reminded me of the sequel so I searched it and REALLY wanted to see it. So on December 27-2010 I saw it and wanted to watch the first and I did. And thus began my recent "obsession"!!

<3 Re-Rez RAM! <3
The inner mechanisms of my brain are an enigma.
