Okay which soundtracks are nominated for best musical score for the oscars? I mean daft punk did such a "perfect" job in my opinion for this being their first soundtrack ever.
So do you think they should win? And is there really any competition.

I agree but the Academy is full of a bunch of staunch old elitist snobs who will likely pass it over.

These award shows aren't what they used to be IMHO. I don't even bother watching them anymore. The judges aren't all old (nor elitists) either. They wouldn't let them win if they were nominated, they could only answer by playing Derezzed, Steam Machine, or the encore mix at the end of the Alive album

Personally, I think it should win, but there's alot of pretentious politics that goes on behind the decisions made at the Oscars. I don't expect Tron:Legacy to be given the time of day. Why? Because, I don't think the Oscar committee (or any of those awards committees) GET IT - and they make no efforts whatsoever to do so. Just like TRON got dissed back in '82. I hope I'm wrong. Fighting for TRON, The USERS, Both Flynns, Independents, and the mighty ISOs since '82. |

If I recall correctly, the Academy's biggest representation is from the SAG, meaning that actors are casting the votes and making the calls. This means that for the most part the Academy Awards are decided based on people who don't necessarily understand the final product. How many actors understand the nuance of a score, or the complexity of sound design, or the depth of innovation in visual effects? Is Tron going to get a nod for costuming, or is it going to go to some bullshit period drama as it always does?
I love actors because they make my writing look and sound good, but from my experience they really do not get the big picture.
'pologies, of course, to any actors who do get it. You are good people and the kind of good people I want to work with. where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online KEEP THE LEGACY ALIVE -- TR3N LIVES

Inception soundtrack will get nominated, TL will not. If TL does get nominated for anything it will be for technical achievements which are given out in the non-broadcast award presentations the day before.

I'll be surprised if they win (I agree that Inception has a strong shot at that, even though I preferred Legacy by a mile.)
I'm going to be really disappointed if they aren't nominated though. They did an amazing job with a real symphony and created meaningful stanzas that are repeated and expanded upon in digital format. The soundtrack couldn't be any more perfect for the movie, both in execution of the music, and in how it mirrors the movie in theory. The fact that they accomplished all this as a popular dance duo should be commended.
As a fan I wasn't surprised, I've always known that the best electronic artists could be amazing composers. But Daft Punk proved it in a major movie soundtrack. They should be recognized for that achievement. To me it's as emotional a ride as any of the more recent John Williams stuff.

Oscar nominations are out. Tron: Legacy has been nominated for Achievement in sound editing.. just that.... not even a nomination for Best Score.. its a pity because in my opinion Daft punk definitely deserved to be nominated at least http://oscar.go.com/#category_sound-editing No matter what is done to me,

DAMNIT! F-ing Academy snobs. They nominate How To Train Your Dragon for Best Original Score over TRON?! And all because it's a science-fiction movie. What a load of BS.

I gave up on taking the oscars seriously a long time ago. If you look back over the history of the oscars and see which films were nominated and what wound up winning it is rarely the ones that stood the test of time and influenced future film makers. abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion

The Academy positively loathes anything science fictional. They'd have passed over Peter Jackson's LOTR adaption too, if it hadn't had so many world-class actors in it, and been such a damned good production. There is no way at all DAFT PUNK gets an Oscar for the soundtrack, even though it's excellent. Sad, but true. Look for the soundtrack from, "The King's Speech" to win. In fact, look for "The King's Speech" to sweep everything this year.
