Predictions for the Next Film (spoilers from Tron Legacy)

on Saturday, January, 15, 2011 10:38 PM
There's a trail of breadcrumbs scattered through the film that hint at a sequel, for instance:

- A brief appearance by Dillinger from the first movie's son Edward (played by big name actor Cillian Murphy)

-Tron breaking Clu's influence and becoming his "white" knight self again

-And the lack of an exit scene for Sam and Quorra done purposefully to prevent us from having a true climax to the film (and thereby leaving an opening for future films).

So what will happen in the next movie?

Dillinger
Let's assume the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. He'll see the taking over by Sam Flynn as an opportunity, to try and take advantage by appearing to be just another programmer. Alan will warn him, but for a limited time Dillinger will have time to pry into Sam's affairs, his most recent achievements.

Especially any code he brings over from his Dad's lab at the arcade. Most likely, Dillinger will figure out who Quorra is (especially since Sam probably won't be able to resist getting her a job at Encom).

The result? We end up back on the game grid, probably with Dillinger digitizing himself and Sam having to go back in as well to rescue Quorra.

TronNow that Tron's back to his old self, we'll probably be seeing more of him (and no doubt more of Bruce Boxleitner's 80's face). Keeping in mind that Tron has always been considered the greatest warrior in the game grid, he'll be fighting a mighty enemy. Perhaps Dillinger will bring back his dad's MCP program, upgraded to fight instead of control?

That would be a good match-up. And what about an opponent from outside the system? We've been working with Flynn Sr's programs and interface for so long, how would a game AI from the 'Net interact with them?

What's everyone else see happening in the next film?

I would like it to be better explained just where the bleep the grid is.

Does it exist in a network? Is it a self-contained box? Is it accessible from any other system, or is it a little bottle universe?

I expect that we'll see some of that answered in the next one, getting into the nature of the world itself and the implications for computing and isomorphism as a larger concept.

Come to think of it, I can see Flynn Jr. looking into recreating the Isomorph species as a tribute to his father.

I think The Grid is some sort of OS perhaps, I believe its what Sam put into his memory stick/drive at the end of Legacy.

It would be madness to not have a Dillinger in the third film after having Ed Jr in Legacy! Someone else (I forget who, sorry!) put forth the idea that Ed's phonecall during the OS12 crisis was to his father, ergo Ed Sr is alive and well enough to pass on advice and could conceivably appear in the third installment. I'd like to see both Dillingers share screentime....and imagine them TOGETHER in The Grid...

What I would LIKE to see in Tron3 would be Alan Bradley meeting Tron himself, more than 30yr after originally writing him. How would Alan take Tron's "personified" appearance after years of thinking of programs as mere lines of code? How, for that matter, would he take The Grid after being immersed in it? Would he see possibilities as Flynn Sr did, or go mad with the knowledge of a compact yet complete universe contained in a mere flash drive?

How about a third CLU (or CLU analog), based on Kevin Flynn's memories and learnings from his gridtime which were of course imprinted on his disc? Sam and Quorra have his disc so why not use the information he passed on? Seeing as CLU2 grew emotionally and mentally beyond a mere copy of Kevin, surely Sam and Quorra (and Tron?) would help mould CLU3 into a force for good.

For the most part we've only seen 'good' Users enter the grid. I'd love to see junior in the grid and throw all the programs who love the Users thrown for a loop.

But I think we can expect A LOT of information on the grid and isos in the next one.

How about hiring a big star for the big villain in the 3rd installment? Adding Arnold Schwarzenegger in a film would increase ticket prices right?

Nevertheless, let's get the story line going.

Sam and Quorra will slowly show the relationship(love) that wasn't shown in Tron:Legacy. Don't worry it wouldn't come up with a love story but an adventure.where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online

Oh yes, definitely mold Clu 3.0 into a force of good, but he must be redeemed first by remorse and recognize his mistakes. The power of Clu Fu can't end here. I'd like to see some concepts from programming represented. In Legacy, they showed Kevin Flynn creating CLU by pressing his hand on a piece of glass and meditating. The resulting "program" was a clone of his personality, and showed up on the other side of the glass like a reflection. While it is true that it should be possible to make a direct copy of Flynn when he is digitized (he is just a pattern of bits, after all), that copy would be just as human as the original, whereas CLU supposedly was not human.

In reality, if what he wanted to create was a program, then he would have typed some source code into a text editor (a program, mind you, which could be portrayed by an actor), and then, when he was done, the source code would have been submitted to a compiler (another program), who would use the source code as a "blueprint" to construct the program that Flynn intended to write.

If there was the slightest discrepancy in the blueprint, the compiler, not being a fully thinking being, would drive his light cycle over to the I/O tower to return the source code to Flynn and tell him the error message.

Alternately, the source code could be submitted to an interpreter instead. Instead of a blueprint, the interpreter sees the source as a "script", and aims to portray the program described by the script, just as an actor might portray the interpreter in the movie.

Programs do a lot more than throw frisbees and ride motorcycles.

I would also like to see a portrayal of a well-known program such as Firefox.

My predictions:

1) Sam will upload "The Grid" and all Programs and data from it to a secured, modern Encom Server.

2) Quorra would have given a blood or tissue sample to medical research. There will be brief mention in the film about something related to self-repairing DNA/ advanced gene therapy/a new medical breakthrough from development of "Isomorphic Stem Cells" or something similar.

3) Dillinger jr will be involved, snoop into Sam's affairs, and try to use what he learns or steals to his advantage

4) Tron will return, reborn anew from the Sea of Simulation

5) The Spiritialist faction of Programs are on a "holy journey" to recover the data fragments that make up Flynn, since one had been found, they seek to re-compile Flynn whom they view as a living god.

6) A new threat will arise, possibly tied to Dillinger Jr discovery of The Grid...

"The film is about finding human connection in an increasingly digital world." - Joseph Kosinski

You can represent something without explicitly explaining it. That was the power of the original Tron; that the aesthetic and the content was meant to be representative of concepts. For example, they didn't spend time discussing the coding behind the I/O tower, they built it up as something representative. To be fair, it was pretty loose, but still.where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online

RE: Predictions for the Next Film (spoilers from Tron Legacy)

Here's how I would handle things.

DAVID WARNER / SARK 2.0: Possibly a cameo as the elder Dillinger, little else. His major contribution would be in the form of the gift he gives his son, an enforcer program that is essentially a fascist version of TRON, focused on eliminating hackers, rogue programs, and pirated software. He's had a long time to think about the events of the first movie, and a reason to despise hackers with a passion. He would be a strong advocate of a tightly controlled system, an almost Apple-esque walled garden approach where anything unapproved is judged as malware and eliminated.

The original Dillinger wasn't evil, and it wasn't his idea to take over the world. He was more your typical corporate executive, ruthless and willing to do whatever it took to get ahead, but he was clearly frightened by what he'd created in the MCP. I see him as a firm believer in rigid pragmatism and tightly-managed efficiency, where raw creativity is distrusted and shackled to an orthodoxy of methodical, incremental progress and stringent testing to make sure nothing has unintended effects. He's seen the results of uncontrolled creation before, and it only reinforced his inner control freak. He's almost certainly rationalized his original theft of Flynn's games as "what was necessary" to impose control on what he viewed as chaotic and in need of a firm guiding hand, and he'd be eager to impose such a control system again. He'd view the Flynns as dangerous and in need of being placed under control, and see Sam's takeover of the company as a four-alarm threat. He'd certainly advise and assist his son in taking "his rightful place" and putting the rogue elements under control.

SARK 2.0 would be the primary role Warner would play, and his actual screen time can be minimized by doing most of his role as Dillinger by phone or teleconferencing where his physical damands are minimal and he can literally "phone in" his role. Similarly, the new SARK would be designed to put minimum physical demands on an aging actor. He would take a page from the playbook of Darth Vader, incorporating a full face mask into his iconic helmet with glowing, menacing red electronic eyes and a deathmask sort of facial design. His physical presence would be beefed up with samurai armor style design elements, mixed with the red glow patterns on blacklight white color scheme and visual cues from the original SARK, cutting an imposing warrior figure. Thus, he could be portrayed entirely by a mixture of CGI and costumed stuntmen, with Warner supplying his iconic voice to the character the way James Earl Jones was the voice of the otherwise faceless and inhuman Vader.

This SARK would be an absolute menace, deadly and seemingly unstoppable. His mere presence should inspire paroxysms of fright in lesser programs, and he should be shown to fight like a demon-possessed Terminator. I can see a scene were Sam lies in wait as SARK stalks down a hallway, and Sam pops out and throws his disk with all his might... and SARK simply catches it, and tosses it aside and keeps walking forwards. Sam blinks, stares, says "oh, -crap-!", and they run. He should be shown in combat several times, and dominate with ruthless brutality. He is an enforcer and destroyer, a walking weapon. He takes orders from the junior Dillinger's programmed alter-ego, playing the role of war general when necessary but mostly just being a killing machine.

In all, SARK 2.0 would provide the return of an iconic villain from the first film (thus pleasing the fans of the original) and providing a Vader-esque memorable screen villain to frighten and thrill audiences. SARK's role would be much like Rinzler's was in Legacy, just dialed up to 11 on the badass meter.

TRON 2.0: Much like SARK, TRON would be faceless so as to provide the ability for his aging actor to provide voice work while CGI and stuntmen shoulder the physical demands of the role. He'd retain the basic look he had as Rinzler, but with the blue glow elements and iconic chest circle and T-shaped pattern of square blue lights that are hallmarks of the original costume. Momentarily, for example when he wants to show Sam he can be trusted, he can project his face on the helmet's visor, which would be done in CGI and look deliberately computer-generated. Otherwise, he's in that helmet full time. As a helmeted, athletic figure in friendly colors performing a heroic role, he'd cut a Power Ranger sort of figure, and he'd counterbalance SARK's methodical, walking stalking tank style with a lot of acrobatics and martial arts that showcase speed and skill over brute strength. He'd serve as the loyal knight to Sam's boy king, and of course will face SARK in a climactic battle in the end that will bring the wow. After all, in the end they're both security programs but with very different philosophies behind them, so it's natural that the action come down to a battle between them.

KEVIN FLYNN: If not gone entirely, his role would be reduced to an Obi-Wan style cameo, a digital projection sought for advice. The hologram Kevin could easily be entirely CGI, allowing Jeff Bridges to need only do voice work. Again, this reduces the physical demand on an aging actor and it also reduces cost as hiring an Oscar-winning actor of Bridges' caliber and clout can't be cheap. A cameo, especially a voice-only one, would provide a sense of continuity by acknowledging the elder Flynn while clearly passing the torch to the younger generation of hero in the form of his son.

SAM FLYNN, QUORRA, and ED DILLINGER, JR. would all reprise their roles from Legacy. GEM might also make a return.

The overall plot would be about a struggle within both the company and it's internal Grid over the future of it's software offerings and the future of the Internet itself. Flynn's side would be all about keeping the digital frontier as free and open as possible, and taking a Google-esque approach of free distribution, open source software that makes it's money on the back end with minimal intrusion of the user, while Dillinger's side (influenced by his father) would be all about imposing control and eliminating all rogue elements, in the name of safety, security, and monopoly. The hacker information freedom philosophy vs the top down control approach. This plot provides the opportunity for not only great character conflict and epic battles, but also a computer-savvy commentary on the issues that computer users care about. Easter eggs for techies like references to various computer terms and issues of interest could easily be sprinkled throughout without mainstream audiences even noticing but getting a warm response from the geek crowd that has kept TRON alive as a cult property in the first place.

It would kick ass.

I am predicting that the plot will go something like this:

After re-rezzing on the Encom server with Flynn, Clu 3.0 seizes upon this new opportunity to go forth on the internet to create the empire he dreamed of in TL. But he soon encounters the true nature of the net: rampant stupidity the likes of Chris Crocker's "Leave Britney Alone" video, viagra spam, millions of Justin Bieber fan pages and a limitless army of trolls. Clu 3.0 tries to find Flynn to beg to be put back on the Arcade server, but once again he has disappeared, this time rumored to have taken up residence on a World of Warcraft server (by the way Fynn did come up with MMO's in 1988). In a final act of desperation Clu 3.0 goes on a mission to find the only program that can mercifully put him out his misery: TRON.

I totally agree. CLU is done as a villain. I'm thinking it'll be Dillinger Jr., possibly with the MCP in tow.

Dillinger Jr must be involved, just based on the "Cillian Murphy doesn't do cameos" quote from Bruce Boxleitner.

Perhaps he will somehow secretly enter the grid and take over. I don't recall anything going back to normal on the grid. There is still an army of programs just sitting there and we only saw that Sam and Quorra made it out. So Quorra's race was saved, but the grid is just left alone. Depending on whether Flynn survived on the grid or not, the spot to lead all the programs and run the games and such is open. So I think Dillinger Jr might take this place.

As for how Sam and Quorra save the grid, I'll leave that up to your thoughts and for Disney to decide.

Just by the number of Clu 2.0 fanfics, we Tron fans love this guy too much to lose him completely.

I noticed the little flash Sam had on his neckchain, it had a teeny light in one corner that glowed before going out. Sure sign of something, yes?

Remember in Tron how Tron and Yori were climbing the wire like things? I thought, hm are they literally inside a CPU? The images that created in my young mind, tiny people in my CPU noooo......

Now the Grid seems to be a manifest place apart from any reality we know, like another dimension really or something.

Would be fun to see someone else get sucked into the Grid. Sam only managed cuz of the stories Flynn told him, so he wasn't THAT surprised once he realized it was real. But anyone else.......ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh get me out of here!

Remember when Sam got a scratch from Rinzler in the Arena? He was bleeding, hence Rinzler recognizing him as a user. Later when Quorra loses half or her arm, however, there's just fancy cubic thingies.
So I wonder what her real world body is made of.
Not fancy cubic thingies (lol), right? And she is made of Flynn's matter that got stored when he went into the grid.
