Yeah, the technology is possible. I think it could happen even within' the next 20 years, but perfecting it? Will take 5+ decades maybe, but I don't hear much about VR nor know much about it.
The closest I feel the worlds ever come to VR is the Kinect and that kinda blows, but it's a step in the right direction.

I imagine it will all depend on the demade for Virtual Reality game systems. However with the cost of such systems being so high only the rich will be able to have fun with them.
I do see a day when it will become more afforable and access more achievable. In fact if sony or micro soft really wanted to expand their market they should start thinking about building Virtual Reality clubs. Remember the old arcades we used to goto when we where kids? Well you would have different types of VR clubs. One for just kids, one for families and the best ones would be for adults only, where you can drink and play games. If I had the money to build a bar/ night club I would want a VR system in my club for people to use.
There know the idea is out there, now maybe someone out there with some money can make it come true.
PS. Oh I forgot the best part to the bar/arcade idea. You can charge five to ten dollars per game play. The first games I'm sure will be time based games. Where users have a X number of lives and once you used up all your lives the games over. A club owner could make a forchin in their city. I know, because I work as a cab driver and have seen for myself the hugh numbers of people that go to clubs at night. Its how I make my money. So imagine being the first club owner in your hood to have a system in your club. Once word got around that your the place to go. Then you would have a hugh draw of people in your club. It's something for all you gamers out there to think about!!!!
