Stygian Wrote:Tron: Legacy is one of those movies that seems like it was tailor-made for those who enjoy subtext. Sure, you can take the story as is on the surface and only enjoy the visuals and or the basic plot, but reading between the lines (which I feel the screenwriters, producer, etc. intended), then you truly absorb the story.
I think the problem with many who cite the movie as a visual feast and not much more really miss the point of it all. But then again not everyone enjoys the same flavor of ice cream, or wears the same clothes, etc. Different strokes for different folks, as the saying goes. |
Thats exactly the way I see it. Tron Legacy is a type of movie that if you just want to go into it wanting to be entertained then you will not be disappointed. If you want to though you can find some deeper stuff in there as well. Its a great movie that works well for different audience types.

Great observations. Very true. There is definitely some amazing subtext in the writing and design. On top of being visually just incredible. You're right that not everyone will see the subtext. Nothing wrong with that, since some people just want to go to a movie to escape for a while. I personally love movies with layers.

Movies should = ENTERTAINMENT
Diversion from life and the cares of the day. Not having someone elses viewpoint on how the world should be run...or some political agenda...rammed down our throats. Ok. I'll stop there. LOL

That would create a lack of diversity in films. We already have enough problem with Hollywood putting out crap. If someone can put out a movie with social commentary or messages that's also good? I'm find with that.

This is just my two bits on the topic, but I feel like when I see a critic that complains a film has no plot it seems to me to be lazy criticism. In a sense it is a way to sound intelligent about one's opinion about a movie without having to articulate why it is the film didn't work for the person saying it had no plot. I feel like when I hear people say a movie has no plot they aren't even trying. What also irritates me about it is that film is suppose to be a visual medium not a literary one. When people say the book is always better than the movie, I don't think that is necessarily fair because they aren't the same thing. To me it's like saying Hamlet is superior to the Mona Lisa.

Well... some people do not even see any of the subtexts thrown so directly at you in films like District 9 or Inception. I guess I'm one of the few people in this world who understood D9 as a metaphor on the South African history. Those subtexts were obviously in the story and you saw them while watching D9 (or Inception).
For T:L those points were digged very deep into the story and not fleshed out as brilliant as in the two examples I mentioned before. So I began noticing some of the subtexts when falling asleep the night I saw the film, to late for me.
As said, I do not say T:L does not have a story. I hate those critics as well. Some of them even praised Avatar for its story which is not much better. I just say that those genius thoughts were too fuzzy.
Germany - $9,510,389
It's sick that Til Schweigers new movie in its opening weekend earned as much as T:L in two weeks here. (Schweiger is a better director than actor)
TRON might not start in #1 in France. This new national movie will reign french cinemas for the next weeks. It has earned an opening weekend record for France.

I bet you are right. I thought there would be a bump when it hits the second run theaters. Could still happen I suppose but who knows.

I'm kind of surprised by how few screens it is on now. Our second run theater has had it for two weekends now and is showing it in 3-D but I'm wondering if not too many of the second run theaters have 3D screens. I went to a matinée yesterday and it was close to half full. I wonder if theaters decided to move the film along or Disney decided to reduce the amount of theaters with the movie to make fans hungry to see it again when it gets released on home video.
It does look like it should at least pass the $170 mark by Thursday, but that's probably where it will stay. I do think once it has run its course in the international markets it will be close to $400 million.
I do think the film had more legs than anyone was thinking it was going to have back during the Christmas season. Its absolutely not a disaster. I'm feeling pretty certain it will mop up in home video. Over at www.blu-ray.com, it is listed in the top 10 best selling Blu-Rays right now and it still has a month and a half before it comes out. Under the top 10 preorders list the different versions hold the 4th, 7th, 9th place. The Blu-rays in the first three spots have a sooner release date.

Not on at the mainstream theaters around here now. But it is on at the "cheap" theater near my mom....no, I will not drag my poor mom to see Tron this weekend when I go visit her, though I do want to see it again. I need to take notes on a couple scenes to finish a story I'm working on, lol, how silly is that? Don't wait to wait for it to A. come out on DVD and B. actually be available at the video store (I've given up on Netflix. My partner is NEVER going to watch and return the movie he got from there. Gonna have to hit Blockbuster one of these weekends I guess for the original, if I can find it and everyone hasn't had the same idea I've had.)
(Don't understand how some theaters still have the Narnia movie on--didn't that come out way before Tron and then leave theaters?-- but not Tron...)where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online

I'm really not surprised. My local IMAX theatre ends the run on Thursday, which is a good two months from opening day. The majority of runs aren't that long, anyway.

I still think that the real money to be made on Legacy is going to come from home video, whether or not people buy it because they really love the movie.
It's one of those movies that people buy to show of their TV hardware. Anyone who bought a 3DTV at a Thanksgiving/Boxing Day sale and hasn't found a solid 3D BluRay release yet to properly show it off beyond Avatar is going to leap at this flick. It looks great and it's a wicked event movie to get friends together with a few beers and rub your tech in their faces.
I forsee big things with home video for this flick. Frankly I'm surprised it's done as much box-office as it has.

Legacy has decent legs, it's done well. Only .3 million more and it will be at 170 million domestically.
Funny thing, Legacy is at 169 million domestically and True Grit is at 160 million domestically. True Grit might end up surpassing Legacys domestic totals. (It got 3 million this weekend.) But I'm not complaining since it has Jeff Bridges in it lol.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pillwhere to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online
