TRON Legacy FAIL Points

on Saturday, December, 18, 2010 11:32 AM

As an absolute fan of the original Tron (viewed over 300 times), listed below are a couple FAIL points that I observed in Tron Legacy during a midnight screening of the film:

1. Garrett Hedlund's acting ability
2. Minimum use of the Tron character in the movie.
3. Horrible redo's of the origiinal films one-liners
4. Flying Top Gun-like space ship fighter vehicles
5. Clu's Face (holy horrible cgi)
6. The Plot
7. Too many boring scenes (way too many)
8. Costumes (compared to original)
9. Transistion from Real World to the grid (way too short)
10. The character of Zues

I'm sure there are many more but those are the initial 10 that bothered me the most.

I think your first problem was viewing the original Tron over 300 times, lol.
you have so much loyalty in the first film?

I couldn't read past the first on the list because I start to compulsively giggle when nerds complain about acting ability on the internet, so I'll just assume the rest of the list read like this:

"HOW DARE THEY NOT MAKE THE MOVIE I WANTED THEM TO."

That about cover it?

(Again, WHY is this a separate thread?)

I'm sure there are many more but those are the initial 10 that bothered me the most.

1. Garret wasn't oscar worthy no, but he wasn't that bad. Actually did really well in the real world scenes where his ruggedness shows much better then on the grid.
2. Well, Tron is in the movie alot, just not as himself. But I can agree I wanted more.
3. One liners were perfect, I am glad they were there and they match the original's 80s cheeze nicely.
4. I liked the Light jets. really fun.
5. CLU could have been better in the mouth area and possibly the eye area articulation but it was pretty good in many of the shots.
6. The plot could have been better. This is a general consensus but.... it is actually better then many critics are saying it is and is actually a better plot then the original.
7. Which scenes were boring to you? I liked it all. I hate films like the new Star Trek, Narnia, Percy Jackson, Clash of the Titans, etc because they have nothing but filler in them. Tron:L actually does things with the non -action scenes that are pretty good. Cora, FLynn and Sam at the dinner table had some nice moments and the scene on the Sailer had some nice touches too. Father/Son reminiscing about what had happened over the years.
8. Love the new costumes better. I love the original Tron. This film is better. I watch the original Tron like twice a year. On blu-ray Tron :L will be on a monthly rotation. Much more to chew on overall.
9. Yes, Agreed, Transition wasn't that great. Would even have been a good use of the 3D to send us down the rabbit hole again.
10. I loved Castor/Zuse. Hilarious. Seems like a harmless night club owner but turns out he's a power hungry sinister dude. Even kills one of CLU's black guards (gun to the back of the head) just to get the disc to barter with. Was surprised some of the violence allowed in a Disney film. Kudos to them for allowing it to be a darker film.

All in all I admit there were missed opportunities with Tron Legacy in certain story telling aspects and even felt that way during production. Once I saw the final product though I have to say it was really something more then I had initially thought.

Definitely a hipster's film, like the original. People had seen Blade Runner, Wrath of Khan, ET, etc in 1982 and panned the original Tron.

This year we had Inception, Avatar (well last year but it has only been a year), but Tron Legacy has more heart then people give it credit for.

You make some good points Euphemizm....I loved Castor too. He's kinda like Fagin from Oliver Twist, dirty, sinister but somewhere in there is something fun and likeable.

you have so much loyalty in the first film?

That is a huge part of it. I do have loyalty to the original film and that is weighing in on my review of Tron Legacy.

But here is the thing.

With the original Tron, I was blown away by it enough to go see it 5 times in the theatre, where as with Tron Legacy, I might* see it one more time in the theatre, but even that is highly unlikely. I can easily wait for it on bluray to watch again to make sure it was as boring as my initial reaction to it was.

If a movie is really good, I have no problem watching it in the theatre several times, but with Tron Legacy, I just do not have that desire. It just didn't do much for me, but then again, perhaps I was expecting way too much.

Also, the 80's were a different time. You had the whole arcade scene happening whereby I had just left the theatre watching Tron and 5 blocks away an arcade had the Tron video game with lines whipping around it. Not too mention the whole arcade scene was happening which added to its surealness. And the original Tron happened when cgi was really brand new, so it had that going for it.

I still think the costumes in Tron Legacy were not very good however.

In the original Tron, you had the costumes light up based on the programs moods, etc., they looked alive.

In Tron Legacy it was just a solid glowing stripeset, it didn't change based on the programs moods or anything.

As an example, in the original Tron, when Sark was upset, his whole body circuitry flared up and it enhanced the fact that he was enraged\upset. It was little things like that which made the Original Tron stand out.

OT: Am I the only one who has grown tired of the rapid rise in the use of the words, "epic", "fail", and "win"? It was fine at first, but now it's just incredibly annoying. Are there really no better adjectives to describe a good or bad...anything? acman:

I give flotilla 100% fail for not being able to see past the first film. And then for assembling a bash list on this sequel, which we have waited 28 years for. Yah, like was once said about Star Wars fans, I guess "real" TRON fans hate TRON? Enough to take a dump on the sequel now that it's finally here??

And I've seen the original over 1,000 times, and I ***LOVED*** TRON LEGACY!

Not a bad movie. Could have been better, but I'm not going to nitpick it.
I'll buy it when it hits the stores.

My ONLY gripe is that nobody in this thread seems to know how to spell ZEUS correctly.
As in the ancient Greek god Zeus? In a city up high on Mount Olympus? End of Line club anyone?

There's depth to the writing and some very fine theology to discover and ponder if you want to find it.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Actually, it's not Zeus, like the Greek god, but literally Zuse, as in how Clu is CLU, not clue.

Also, with some movies and other forms of entertainment, it's hard to get a good grasp of the story on a first go around, unless the plot stands out right in front of you like most. I think T:L is one of those that needs a few viewings to help get a deeper plot entwined to it.

It's easier to bash something first when you don't understand it then to take the time to really delve into it and understand it.abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

From what I have seen, flotilla would have probably ripped apart ANYTHING that Disney gave us. Some fans are their own worst enemies -- and enemies of the franchises they claim to love.

So far I am seeing 5/1 positive reviews, with the haters being the outliers.

GO TRON!

He isn't the only one that is voicing the same concerns on his list. With the amount of money that Disney spent on production and pre-release, people had high expectations that the movie would live up to the hype. There just isn' t the same "magic" that was present with the first movie and I doubt that TL will have the same influence with the audience as Tron did back in 1982. If you ask those in their 30s to early 40s in the computer field if Tron meant anything to them, they would probably have a story to tell. order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Tron Legacy has inspired me as an aspiring game designer/concept artist **immensely** and I know other graduates in the same subjects as me, that HAVE been inspired by Tron Legacy as well.

I'm sure me and my recent graduates are not the only ones.

Got to disagree on most of the points.

Remember this movie was rated PG, and the target audience was under 25.
Sure, they filled it with enough stuff to keep those of us who saw the original entertained, but really, we weren't their target market, were we?

I went in expecting a popcorn escape, and that's what I got.
Not Shakespeare or Hemingway, but Marvel and DC.
The CG on Flynn wasn't that great, but it is still an imperfect technology.
Sure, you can pick some things apart - like how they built up the "classic" white lightcycle as being made personally by Flynn and faster than anything else made, and then just literally use it to go from point A to B and GIVE IT AWAY!! You anticipate it being used in a great lightcycle battle, but no.

But overall, I enjoyed it, my 14 yr old enjoyed it, and the wife (who generally doesn't like SCI-FI) enjoyed it.
A win all around.
And we will definitely see it again in theatres!

My friends, my fellow conscripts, we have scored!

I am not talking about Tron fanboys or other people ALREADY in computer fields.

How many KIDS, who haven't already planned to, are going to be inspired by TL to do so? Back in 1982 I had no idea what direction I wanted to take in high school. Then I saw Tron and it was a big in the direction I took in my life. My mind was awakened to the near endless possibilities that would be possible through the use of computers.where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online
