Seems kinda odd.

Legacy doesn't really reference much or hinge on the idea that every user who makes a program causes that program to look like them in the electronic world; Clu is explained as being a special experiment by Flynn to /try/ and make a duplicate of himself. The other Programs in the Grid are custom creations made just for the Grid - remember, Flynn is the only "User" of the Grid.

However!

This casting news insinuates that theories are correct on Tron 3 taking place back at Encom and a return to the Encom mainframe. There we might see Ed Jr. represented in the System as a program who shares a resonant connection with a User, thus he looks just like Ed Dillinger Jr.

In the expanded universe fiction surrounding Tron Legacy it is noted that Encom is on the verge of rolling out a new anti-virus software that is revolutionary and will change the Internet. This doesn't seem to factor in to Legacy's primary plot. But what I'd imagine is that the project is possibly the end result of Alan Bradley's work, and that inside the electronic world, the original Encom Tron is the commander, leader, or some such, of a security force that is about to be unleashed outside the Encom domain.

Potential plot idea: mirroring Dillinger Sr. taking Flynn's work, what if Dillinger Jr. conspires to steal Alan's work and in the system, his Program duplicate is trying to take over this "military" force, which would give lil' Eddy out in the Real World backdoor access to computer systems around the globe? i think the current director made the wrong decision to move away so far frm the eighties new wave retro-futurism look. Its ironically big in the current fashion trend in terms of colour and sensibilities.

he's close but lack the sharped edged geometric elements and moved towards a more round edged objects and tacky ornate furntures and curvy objects. He's still somewhat stuck in the grungy era...

The director definitely didnt do enough research on the stylistic and clothing dept.

I saw it last night, and remember that a lot of the architecture seems like it was designed by those programs (can't remember what they're called) that just "appeared like a flame."

The architecture in the original was definitely designed by "Users" whereas this world was more or less created by "Programs" (Clu and the other species) and so would naturally look a little different.

Also remember that CLU was striving for perfection, and so he may have viewed the more rounded architecture as being a more "perfect" structure in some sense.

If you watched the flashback sequences closely you would notice that they are walking around in the city on the grid, completed, and that the only structures that were affected / created by the ISO's were the ones that were destroyed by Flynn, killing all ISO's accept for Quorra.

So Flynn created most of the world we see in Tron Legacy.

As for what the Grid might look like in Tron 3, I'd think that it might be a mish-mash of Legacy and the original Tron. Remember that Flynn was CEO of ENCOM long before his disappearance in 1989, and the company has most likely built upon his original operating system, as referenced in the board meeting in Legacy when Alan calls the operating system Flynn OS 12.

Flynn would have had to utilize the technology ENCOM had developed with their digitization laser to replicate and shrink it to the size of the one in his basement office in Legacy. He also probably returned to the ENCOM Grid to propose his plan to TRON directly before removing him from the system to bring into his grid. Either that or he made a copy of TRON and brought it over. But Flynn had to revisit the original Grid to make sure it was possible and work out all the bugs first before using his own.

Whoops! Sorry there. They just look so much alike.... ; ) Yeah, I meant CLU. And I'm sure that CLU continued to adjust the Grid once Flynn went into hiding, most notably in adding the gladiatorial light cycle and disc games.

Not to go too far off subject, and I'm not sure if you'd consider it canon or anything, but the depiction of the Grid city in Tron Evolution, the game, is almost exactly like it's shown in Legacy, which takes place before CLU is corrupted completely.

If Legacy holds up as well as it is (still doing over 6 million per day, woo hoo!), it's almost certain that it will be considered the launch film of a trilogy. That would save such a big ticket concept like a real world invasion for the finale film.

If that holds true, the next film would be about networking, a Grid doing what the MCP did and expanding into other computers and prepping for a takeover. The protagonist struggle would be to stop it there, and prevent it from conquering the Internet..

So at the end, when the new MCP or what have you is destroyed and the Grid is reclaimed, it's a false victory, as they discover that the enemy did a total system file dump right before it was destroyed... right into the laser facility. Final scene is the city being overshadowed by the rezzing of a mile long supercarrier... dramatic flare of music and TO BE CONTINUED.
