Any guesses on when this will happen? Not that I want it to happen, not that I'd ruin the experience by watching this epic movie on a tiny TV (I saw the latest Star Trek movie in the theaters 5 times), but it will happen. I don't think it will get leaked that quickly. Disney's security has been super tight on this project since the beginning.
Normally, this type of discussion is forbidden on TS but this topic is okay because it's not about how to obtain a bootleg copy or how to download torrents, etc.
If people do start getting too weird around this discussion, I'll close this.

After the mess that happened with X-Men Origins: Wolverine-- (but that was an entirely different story as it turned out that it was an unfinished copy that was leaked)
...I don't think this will really happen to Tron Legacy-- at least in that respect of having a unfinished copy being leaked because that would make no sense.
Besides, I'm totally all for seeing Tron Legacy in the movies again and again. Big screen is way more preferable and I actually like feeling the music coming through the theatres' sound system. Uh, sequels don't get canceled if the movies get bittorrented, that's stupid.
They only get canceled if the movie performed below expectations.

Yeah. The box office is pretty much the real gauge that will determine if a sequel gets made. Too low and the probability of a theatrical sequel goes bye bye. But still, the direct to video market is still very viable for sequels these days. I expect Tron Legacy is going to perform better than Starship Troopers, but look how that has hung on since the movie was made. I can guarantee with all the buzz, work and effort Disney and the creative staff of Tron Legacy have been putting into the film, its gonna get shown theatrically and have a lasting effect.

I think if they reduced the time between the time a movie is in the theaters to the time its available on DVD I don't think people would bother with torrents.
Maybe a better question is how long until its out on DVD.

I guess you weren't around in the early days of VCRs when you'd wait years for a home video release compared to the months these days. Damned kids these days, so impatient.

I hope any schlub that uploads or downloads an illegal copy of Tron Legacy has their computer infected with a virus, a really bad one once that corrupts their hard drive permanently. Frakkin' jerks would deserve it!
This movie is a *must see* and deserves to be seen as it's meant to be seen; on a theatre screen in digital REAL D with a top line, booming sound system IMO.

I thought it took a year or two for a VHS to come out for a movie.
And as for DVD's, the time from the movie playing, to being put on DVD seems like three months after the movie plays in theatre's.
Honestly, I would rather wait a while longer for movies because it makes it that much more important to go to a movie theatre to see the movie! Kinda makes it a bit more special to see it on the big screen knowing that the movie would take so long to come out on any type of format.

A year would have been considered a quick release.
