Check out the story in this link. The second half implies that a digital world might not be too far down the line, without actually saying it. It refers more to the digitising our our brain patterns. It's probably not that new an idea.
This is probably light years behind New Scientist articles but the first time I've seen something on the BBC news portal.

I think video games should be like a Tron World.
For instance make games like Zelda the Skyward Sword in full 3D with holograms, and have the humans move the action. That could take games to the next level!
Then having a beer while doing this could also elevate things to the next level.
I'm really excited about, and can't wait to get my Nintendo 3DS !
A Tron World would be nice. But keep in mind that there are forces such as the "New World Order" Who are like the MCP. And would like to keep humans as slaves.
So let us always think of programs like Tron and Flynn who are ready to fight to keep the system free!

Holograms aside (which would be super awesome) you are kind of describing Microsoft's Kinect for the XB360 if I'm not mistaken. You are the controller, its pretty awesome if it actually works (I don't have much faith in MS making products that work correctly). Although, think about playing that on a 3D tv, now that is an awesome set up!
When it all comes down to it though, I'm still waiting for my flying car, light cycle, transporter, and holodeck. "What program???" |

Too Bad most of the games for Kinect are really not much more than blatant knock offs of Wii games like Wii Sports Wii Sports resort, Wii Fit Plus, etc...
Micro$oft is so desperate to capture the "casual gamer" market that Nintendo tapped into and has become the top seller of game consoles supassing MS's XBOX360 and Sony's PS3. The HD consoles do have some great games, but it's kind of now like their "oh we can be like the Wii too, see! MOVE controls! Kinect control! With cute mini games, virtual zoo pets, fitness, cute verisions of sports and outdoor activities!!! yeah we are soooo innovative!"
Please, give me a break! LMAO.
I do think develepmont of some sort of percise thought controlled videogames would be cool. Probably still some time until that's viable & usable.
Linking directly into a computer system might be possible, but maybe not for another 10-20 yrs.
When I'm really really old. I would like to download my mind into a computer system where I could construct my own cyber-reality... to exist in.. that'd be awesome I think.
