Because Kevin gave Alan the pager and told him to never let go of it regardless of anything, I don't remember the exact quote. My theory is that Kevin gave Alan the pager so he could page Alan in case anything terrible happened while he was in the computer world. It could be that something happened and for some reason was unable to get the page out for 28 years.

My understanding is that Rinzler's disc is somewhat special in that it's a single disc that can split into two discs. So he may be able to wear it on his back, but just split it into two when he removes it.

But that's a very interesting shot you point out, Traahn. I hadn't noticed it before. If you think about it from another point of view, he has two discs, one on each leg, that he can combine into a single disc.

That's quite true. Even just a few years ago, when my mom was still working in a hospital, she would sometimes accidentally bring home one of the pagers from work that they use alot.
