After reading that article, I went to the Oryontech webpage. I read up about their ELastolite product. That's some pretty cool stuff!

Not only is it the EL lighting technology used in the movie, but I also realized that it's very different than LightTape (which is what I THOUGHT they used in the movie).

The ELastolite is created using a different process and is actually thinner, more flexible, and more pliable than LightTape. I may try and contact them to see if I can get pricing information.

But, knowing that the wardrobe budget on the film was $13 million and one custom racing suit was $60,000, I highly doubt it would be affordable to use this stuff in my Sam costume that I'm considering putting together.

But you never know. If enough of us TRON nerds are willing to dump a whole boatload of cash on them for lighting strips for costumes, they might see a market opportunity and make it affordable for us...(Yeah, right!)

If I can't buy anything from the movie, I'll have to at least buy the shoes! I'm actually impressed that they are using something that is probably from the movie, the ELastolite that Hoodoo had mentioned.

And yeah, what are the prices for the Adidas?

(Hoodoo, check your PM's)

Well, you also have to remember the wardrobe budget was also due to the fabrics, plastics and process of creating the costumes and armor for the costumes and not just the EL light strips. You could probably use regular EL tape and coat it in clear latex rubber to add a little weight to the structure so it's flexibility will be structurally balanced. You probably won't be doing repetitve stunt actions while in your costume so some regular EL perhaps modified could work in a costume application that doesn't envolve alot of crazy action.

The white ones do looks better. But why the 89? Is that now the "logo" for Tron Legacy?

I'm not sure why they chose the "89" but most of us here do know that it's a symbol Sam created to represent the year Flynn dissapeared.

Well, I think it ties in with the "retro" 1989 look of the shoe. Here is a link to some Adidas shoes that are a "re-launch of the original 1989 models, with all the accoutrements of modern technology":

The classic 3 stripes are a throwback to 1989, so maybe they included the "89" symbol to reflect that.

At CaptainCR: Oh, that's right! That little fact escaped me at that moment. That makes sense to use the 89 then.

At Hoodoo: That could also be it as well, since the shoes around that time still had the 3 stripes on them.

Looks like the "89" Adidas have more levels to them then we thought. abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

That's a good point, IsoLine. Those suits are engineering marvels. I'm sure a lot of the cost went into the different textiles used, the fabrication, and increasing the durability of the costumes for stunt work.

And I never thought about using clear latex, that might be an avenue to explore. It would help, as you pointed out, with structural balance, but also with possibly insulating the EL tape as well.

I ordered an A5 sized custom cut-and-shape EL sheet to evaluate it's feasability for costume work and it came in the other day. After a few days of looking around, I finally found a power supply to work with the inverter they sent. It looks great all lit up! But, as I was messing around with it, I forgot about the exposed terminals and shocked the crap out of myself! LOL! So, that's why I mention the possible "insulating" properties of the latex...

BTW, I sent a pricing inquiry email to Oryontech through their website. I'll let yall know what they say.

Actually, it means "1989 Forever". The 8 is sideways and thus doubles as an infinity symbol.
