Hah, I'm just now getting into it. I've gone through MGS1, 2, and 3. I got through Peace Walker's main campaign but apparently the campaign after that has major spoilers for MGS4, which I haven't played yet, lol.

Considering the continuity of things, we won't find out who Rinzler is in the comics. I've posted this before and I'll post it again:

Betrayal part 1 - 1983
Betrayal part 2 - probably 1984
Evolution DS - 1985
Evolution Wii - 1987
Evolution PSP - 1989
Evolution everything else - 1990-2010
Legacy - 2010
Now, considering that TRON himself is in Evolution PC/360/PS3 gameplay, we can assume that he is not yet Rinzler. speaking of which sorry for the double post, if you watch the SDCC footage or the ElecTRONica footage you see tron in it him self its hard to see but he is there

i remember reading that an early script had TRON in it,and he and Sam face off at some point,with the younger Flynn defeating the now aged and outdated TRON program...and before he de-rezed ,TRON "passed his powers" or some such whatnot onto Sam,to help him be more powerful in the grid ....
don't know if this is still in the film or not....

Where did you read that? It could still be in the film after a fashion. from what i remember,they fight....don't know if TRON thinks Sam is one of CLU's followers or what...but they fight,Sam beats him,and i guess somehow TRON finds out who Sam reall is,and like uploads all his data onto Sam's Identity Disk or something,before TRON de-rez's...

It would be entirely consistent with the first film, however, when Flynn absorbed the red energy from the guard he got into the fight with.

Well, what happened to Tron at the end of the Killer App game for GBA? I tried playing it once, but my game glitched in the middle of playing and I never got to see the ending. Are the 2.0 games canon to this new movie at all? I've seen the trailer for Evolution and it seems to me like the character you play is Rinzler but in white or light blue colors. His mentor or whatever seems to be either Tron himself or Alan. Maybe Alan went into the system to train a new Tron program, but at the end of the game he gets captured and repurposed by Clu, thus changing colors and sides. I don't think he is the original Tron program, but more like an updated version. For that matter, what ever happened to Lori and Dumont?
It seems like Sam and Rinzler do fight, possibly a lot. If the toys are any indication. Maybe it ends up being more like training. Maybe Rinzler knows who he is, but is pretending to be Clu's right hand man in the meantime. There isn't enough evidence right now to know for sure.

The jerks said that Tron 2.0 isn't canon despite the fact that they're using Tron 2.0's plot for both the movie and Tron Evolution. :P
(I'm still annoyed that they won't acknowledge that some of the details are similiar!!)
I haven't beaten Tron 2.0 Killer App for gba either. :/
(ETA: I'm okay with Lora being alive, but I'm annoyed because Jet and Mercury don't appear to exist.)

Look at the first video, 31 seconds in. Bruce Boxleitner, TRON, right there, NO HELMET.
Same lighting as Rinzler.
Still doesn't tell us why the name change or exactly what happened (maybe Rinzler kills Tron and takes on his characteristics?) but why see the movie if you know everything?

SPOILER... Mouse Over To Read:On page 62 of the Tron Legacy junior novel Sam and Kevin are talking about how Clu took over. Sam asked Kevin what happened to Tron. Well, Kevin stated the Black Guard captured him but he thinks Clu destroyed him. The theory is that Tron was reprogrammed as Rinzler.....Will find out more as I get to the end of the TL Jr novel.
The jr. novel and kids storybooks came out on the 19th. Check your local Barnes and Noble and Borders......

Yep, thats either Tron or a different version of him. I still say he probably gets "appropriated" by Clu and its up to Sam to save him. Either that or he's pretending to be on Clu's side. Sure can't wait to play this game.

Update to IMDB: Anis Cheurfa is the actor listed as playing Rinzler. With CGI, though, it might be a young Bruce Boxleitner's face that shows if the helmet is ever taken off. I concur with Meatsack. The CGI is the most obvious solution if his helmet comes off. I'm quite sure Rinzler is who I and we think it is. My biggest concern is how they will resolve the rulership if Clu is ousted. Killing him off would be equivalent to Darth Maul and pointless. If Clu goes, who is supposed to run the Grid in the political circle? Would Flynn have to make Clu 3.0 to counter him? How do you counter a program that is devious as Clu? I think of him as a digital version of Lucifer but he has to be kept lo cked up in some kind of hell, although the way Clu shares Flynn's dream of a perfect world is not so much different than the philosophy of Thomas Moore who wrote the ideals of Utopia.
