5th Gen Light Cycle & Derezzing

on Saturday, May, 08, 2010 11:29 PM
I was reading the tron-wiki about the 5th Gen Light cycle (the new one in the movie) and it talked about how the rider doesn't derez upon impacting a jetwall. This of course is based on the comic-con trailer.

But then I was just re-watching the new trailer and realized that at the end of it, when Sam cuts off a Lightcycle, that the lightcycle 'disintegrated' differently and that no rider was ejected. It was more like it shattered into molten glass then solid glass as in the comic-con trailer. But the key point is that no rider was ejected.

So it would seem that maybe they have changed their mind about what happens when a cycle hits a jetwall.

or

Maybe it different because one happens on the game grid and the other doesn't.

Thoughts?

Look very closely in the top left corner when the lightcycle crashes...the red driver flips through the air.

I don't know what happens to the rider, but I love the liquid light splash that occurs

On a similar note: if you watch the concept trailer that came out a year or two back, and watch the program flying through the air after he impacts the jet wall... you see that the light trail shatters like glass, but there is also liquid mixed in with the glass shards, too. I kinda like that effect.

Liquidy crystalline light trails. I can deal with that where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

Wow, you right, there is a guy flipping through the air. I had to frame by frame it, but I see it. Good catch!

I like the molten glass look as well, but I'm not sure the sound portrays the power of the collision as well. The original crash (from the first movie) also has a bit more of a computer feel.

I don't think the look of the Cycle shattering has so much changed, as had something added to it.

In the first trailer, it just shattered into solid pieces. But in the second, you get liquid in addition to solid pieces.

The solid pieces are the Cycle itself, while the liquid is probably the energy. That's my take on it, anyway.

But isn't the bike just energy in solid form, shape design and function specified by computer code, hence death being a derezzing process and the program shuts down and the energy loses cohesion (purpose) and reverts to a more natural form (which is why I kind of like the molten form better then the pieces form).

Not entirely true. There is some liquid in the concept trailer crash, too

You can also see that the light trails appear to have some liquidy consistency while driving by looking how the trails eminate from the cycle. Watch the concept trailer again and look at 1:22 and 1:44.

For the crash's liquid, 1:52'ish, of course.

Seeing this trailer reminds me again of how awesome this movie is likely going to be. Now time to go watch the official trailer again

I think Disney is trying to be as family friendly as possible and have as few deaths in the film as they really need.

It could work as long as they don't make it too much like the goo-bubbles in Speed Racer.

That's an equally valid point of view, yup. It could just as easily be the case. I just look at it as the energy used to create the Light Cycle has been transformed into code which represents its form, and when it shatters it doesn't automatically revert to energy. Meanwhile, it also carries its own energy source, and that is what the liquid portion is when the bike disintegrates.

I agree that the trail could be interpreted as having a sort of liquid form. Well spotted. But I don't really see liquid in the first trailer when the bike shatters. It all looks like solid glass shards to me, some of which are very fine particles. But it's really difficult to say, considering the camera cuts to the precipice and we never get to see where the cycle crashed again.
