Ok, so what are all of your thoughts. Are Hollywood movie studios running out of ideas, or are the studio CEO's and COO only green lighting this garbage to make money off of people thinking they are all easily amused sheep?
WTF is going on with the companies behind these film s getting approved for going into production?

Tron 2 was on a "new movies in production" list at some point and there were plenty of people doing *face palm why???s*
Just depends on what you like and don't like. Someone on a Sex and the City 2 forum is probably wondering what Tron is and why in the world would they be making a sequel to a geeky 80s movie almost 30 years old, lol.

Yeah, but... let's face it... a Battleship movie, based on the game?
You've really got to wonder exactly how they're going to get enough subject matter to make it worthwhile. Of course, that's not to say that Battleship movies in general are a bad thing (Tora! Tora! Tora! anyone?), but... why base it on the game?

Some of these look okay..not good okay, just okay.
I figured Imagi would be making another TMNT(I wonder how close it will be to the comic compared to all the other TMNT movies and shows).
Cats&Dogs was an okay movie when it came out. It could have had more potential. Maybe if they actually do make a sequel it will actually 'go all the way.'
I thought they canceled Yogi Bear....guess not.
Mortal Kombat could either be good or bad. I remember that cheezy spin off show they had, and those animated vhs releases.
Scream 4...hrrrmmm? I thought there was only two? Tekken, I heard about that. Still not sure how you could make a movie off of it.
Battleship, Mission Impossible, Madagascar, er..yeah.
Marvin the Martian could be good. That's only because I'm a Duck Dogers fan.
Oh yeah, Pirahna 3d. I saw the preview of it in 3d and I laughed from the sheer stupidity. order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill I'm cold and calculating. Don't press my buttons.

There are plenty of ideas in Hollywood. But consider:
1. Nobody in the industry has any idea what films will be successful, or why the ones that are, are. Given the expense of making a film, the production companies love what they perceive to be, if not sure things, at least low-risk ventures: sequels, adaptations, and things similar to whatever someone else has recently made work.
2. As a film works its way from idea to finished product, it may go through a lot of hands - not just different directors and writers attached, but different companies, and different producers within those companies. What seems like a great idea to one exec may seem groundless to the one that replaces him or her. Internal politics can also play a role (for a fictionalized version of this, see the later seasons of Seinfeld as Jerry & George's show pitch is developed, filmed as a pilot, and killed).
3. Despite all that, a lot of original films get made. That doesn't mean they get multi-million dollar promotion efforts.
I don't think it's a coincidence that we're suddenly seeing 80s properties being revived - The Smurfs, The A-Team, and yes, even TRON. There's a lot of talk about how making TRON Legacy had to wait until "the technology was there," but honestly, the tech's been available to make a TRON sequel of some kind or other for years now. I suspect the reason it's getting made now instead of in 2000 is that the people with the biggest fondness for the original film - roughly, kids who were in their pre-teens and early teens in 1982 - are now adults with their own teen/pre-teen kids. A built-in audience.
Your mileage may vary.

I think just that Hollywood is starting to sift through some of the older films and starting to remake them again. They are basically running out of idea these days with the exception of tron and no one smacks me silly on that there. They can no longer come up with anything original any more.

Previous re-makes of 80's movies, or film versions of 80's tv shows, and remakes or modern movies based on old 60's, 70's or 80's cartoons have shown to be really
lack luster and sub-par, like Starsky & Hutch, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Garfield, and Charlie's Angels
It just seems like big, mainstream Hollywood is trying to waay too hard to cash-in on those by "remaking" them, and IMO it's getting kind of ridicoulous.
About TRON.
There was actual stirrings for many years among MANY old die-hard techno geeks, and long time gamers that have been around since they first played Atari 2600 and wrote their first BASIC program for an Apple computer when they were 10-13 yrs old, that have wanted a Tron sequel for these past 28 yrs.
Heck my own aunt that just turned 40, loved TRON, and is impressed with just the VFX teaser; she has wanted a sequel since she saw it when she was 12.
The movie actually helped her cope with her father (my grandfather) passing away back in 1983/84 when the movie came out to VHS.
Joseph Kosinski was one of those sci-fi and tech geeks that LOVE Tron and got the original Director Steve Lisberger and actors from the original to sign on to the film.
How many sequels of a nearly 30 y.o. cult classic movie can claim that the original writer or director or cast is involved with a sequel and is under the direction of someone whom actually LOVED and *respects* the original? No many, if any at all.
Now, I'm pretty sure there wasn't some hardcore fans around for 28 - 35 yrs desiring and clamouring for a remake of "The Yellow Submarine", a "Yogi Bear" movie, a "Pirahnna 3-D" remake, "Battleship" movie, a "Red Dawn" remake, a "Footloose" remake, a modern "The Three Stooges" movie, a "Stetch Armstrong" movie, or a "Ripley's Believe it or Not" the movie.
So IMO *mainstream* Hollywood is going overboard and SHOULD be greenlighting and marketing up the wazoo ORIGINAL and UNIQUE films along the lines of District 9, Children of Men, "9", Zombieland, Shawn of the Dead, Eagle Eye, Coraline, etc;
*instead of* popping in $200 mill. and people like Micheal Bay, cutting out the original creators (and often the original actors) from the originals and just patchworking a new flashy remake together.
I mean come on, it's like uniqueness and creativity in storytelling and visual presentation is dismissed, and we get a re-hashed paper thin story with flashy and often dodgy CG, like Alvin and the Chipmunks 2, or Gi Joe, or a idiotic remake of RED DAWN (was a bad movie already!), and basterdizing IMO GOOD classics like Clash of the Titans, The A-Team, Yellow Submarine, Robocop, and Short Circuit. IMO they need to stop...where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

About the only thing they brought back from the 80's that I liked was Rambo (which is a sequel)... I was disappointed in Transformers and G.I. Joe (it's because I grew up with the toons and I loved those stories).
I love all the 80's movies but reboots sort of destroy them depending on the story (Dukes of Hazzard the Movie? That just pissed me off).
Red Dawn is one of my all time favorites but this time around it's suppose to be China that invades. I say, make the movie but don't call it Red Dawn.
Someone on some site mentioned that a Pac-Man movie might be made as a CGI (which might actually work but I wouldn't hold my breath).
I am looking forward to the 'Dragon's Lair' movie if Don Bluth and Gary Goldman can ever find a distributing company or something like that.

Sigh I know how you feel. Nobody wants to risk any money on something new. I just hope that there will never be a 90's revival in ten more years (blech).
What bothers me most is that the can't even sift through the worst of it to find something that at least needs a sequel or a remake Like TRON

Something else to add to what I wrote above: The economy's not good right now. And just like investors make more conservative investment choices during unstable times (lower-risk mutual funds, precious metals), so the production & distribution powerhouses are even more likely to bank on what they perceive to be sure money. (Better a small profit than any loss at all.) Again, that means sequels & adaptations (cinematic comfort food), repetition of recently profitable ideas and genres, and the distraction of spectacle (hence why 3D is suddenly and paradoxically so popular, despite the added ticket cost).
In a better economy, with a better national mood, I suspect that The Hurt Locker would have turned a higher profit. Of course now that it's won the Best Picture Oscar, more people will check it out.
