Heres my thing. I hate gimmicky toys. I would rather have a lightcycle that just doesn't do anything except look awesome than one that has a ripcord or anything like that. I just want an accurate sculpt, and gimmicky parts get in the way of that.

No worries Programs! I'll be at SDCC all four days + Preview Night. As soon as they display the toys I'll take pics and post them here.

Totally with you on that. When I was a kid, I preferred toys that let me use my imagination rather than functioned when i pressed a button and watched it perform for me. The only exception is Teddy Ruxpin, that guy was kinda sweet.
My answer is no...there isn't "too much" stuff like that. I don't think the 25 - 40 year old is going to buy the ENTIRE product line (for themself). In some cases, the toy simply isn't meant for that age group, but we do always try to be as movie-accurate as possible. Plus, Disney does a great job in being picky about how we're representing their license. And then on the other extreme, we love finding opportunities to go full-on collector, which is cool because we're essentially designing for ourselves In most cases though, we recognize there is a kid/collector crossover where a badass figure and a badass Light Cycle will appeal to both the kid and the collector.

Hasbro does a pretty good job of getting the ComicCon exclusives out to collectors who can't attend but they are really the only one who does. I hate having to resort to ebay scalpers for con exclusives. |
There will be Comic Con exclusives for sale at the show. I'm really trying to make these available to Tron-Sector, even if it is a limited quantity.

OK, so, sorry if this has already been covered here or elsewhere: will there be any new toys produced based on models from the original Tron? Or will it only be T:L stuff?

wheat king Wrote:but the good news is they opened up an office in Los Angeles 3 years ago that deals almost exclusively with entertainment properties. Out here at my office we've done Bakugan, Stormhawks (they were good figures...RIP), The Last Airbender, How to Train Your Dragon, and now Tron: Legacy as well as a lot of quality non-figure brands that might surprise you. And, we have some AWESOME and experienced action figure designers, who are also toy geeks and hardcore collectors. We're the guys spending hundreds of dollars at Comic Con on awesome stuff because we're crazy and we care about things like action figures. We're also the guys who go to Target (straight to the toy aisle) and Toys R Us 3 or 4 times a week during lunch to check out the new Iron Man figures and Transformers.
That being said, we're still at your mercy if you think the toys suck. |
Welcome to the forum!
Just out of curiosity:
Are you going to make Reco Laser battlers that also interact with land vehicles?
How many different vehicle models are you making?
Will you make anything for ppl over the age of 15?
Can we expect to see vehicles that match as exact as possible, and covering the entire group of models in the movie?
How many include the action figures that hang onto certain vehicles?
Can you compare by name, a certain toy (other than what's avail. by your company) that matches your expectations?
I have RC cars, (40mph), and monster trucks. If any, are there any rumors of TL merch for enthusiast's toys??
I may not speak for many, but I'm not going to buy small plastic things if I can get a big aluminum one. Not that I wouldn't enjoy some of the toys for a 15 yo, but... comon. I hope there are ppl willing to bring the adults together on the TL merch.

My main question to Wheat King:
Is a Tron Legacy Identity Disc toy (that resembles a Chakram) that lights up or glows-in-the-dark, is it
still going to be produced and released in the US?
You know, this beauty here:
this article mentioned it as an "Edge Light Disk"

I will say that I am glad to see someone other than the Mattel, Hasbro or NECA doing these figures. It's refreshing...
If you can make the exclusives available here, that would be AWESOME! On the East Coast, I can never make it out there and always miss out on the good stuff. |

My girlfriend has a uterus. I am sure that I could work something out if we get the hook up on exclusives.

I'll see if I can score some extra exclusives while at SDCC, depending on the limit. No guarantees, but I'll try.

I don't know if I'm allowed to reveal anything...

I just had a chance to talk to my 'Brand Manager' (marketing) again about getting some of the Comic Con exclusives available on Tron-Sector, and it looks like I'll be able to get something going for those who can't make it to the event in July. They probably won't be available to everyone who wants one, but more like a giveaway/contest type thing. Anyway, I'll push to get as many as possible and I'll keep you guys posted on any updates in that department. That's a few months away still.
